Basically, two dems switched sides in a clandestine coup designed to oust the Majority leader and, of course, senatorial majority.
This is hardcore old school politics at work. I'm sorta impressed, sorta horrified, sorta bemused.

Me too.
Skelos is solid, I live and work at a local newspaper in his district so I get a lot of his spin first hand. A much better outcome than Craig Johnson (who is a dem and stayed one, but still) who is an epic liar.
This should be interesting. Hopefully, this will mean some badly needed amendments to S5661, among a myriad of other things. Locally and nationally, I'm also finding it interesting to watch as the Dems dig themselves into a hole by simply not knowing when they've gone too far or how to stop.
Disclaimer: Repubs are just as bad, so put away your torches. IMO, we need a viable third party, the two we have are too mired in bs.

They really are- I'd love to see a viable third party. At least one based on small government (with upstate not an afterthought).
I wonder, in this case, what the end goal was. Paterson has been cutting things left and right. People have been griping. I wonder if the change was designed to block that or if it was to assist in that.

I found out a bit more about the background on this at work, and now I'm disgusted.
This apparently started as an effort to block a gay marriage bill.
Whatever our "third party" needs to stand for, it needs to NOT stand for riding around on a high horse legislating morality.

That's what I heard too.
If immorality is the downfall of the Democrats in liberal New York, imagine what it will do to them in the rest of the country.
Even so, I don't want to get overconfident about the situation in New York. Two Democrats sided with Republicans in a leadership vote that toppled the Democrat who was the senate majority leader. Then the Republicans split the senate majority leader job into two positions, and gave one of the those two new positions to each of the two Democrats. The thing is, those two Democrats say they are still Democrats and have not switched parties. And at least one of those two Democrats has personal moral problems that would, if true, preclude from being a Republican anyway. I'm pretty sure it's not going to end well.

Okay, sock puppet.
Way to nail it as to why the Repugnacants....can't. Exclusionary rhetoric like this is exactly the reason, and even your little poster girl Sarah recognizes it.

I was reading the RP 2012 and C4L websites. Can't say I was that impressed.
They're still about legislating morality, they just want the states to do it instead of the Feds. What's the difference? In either case, a government entity gets to decide personal freedoms based on their morality which is based largely on religious dogma that not everyone shares.

You won't find Governor Palin defending this (http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.com/2008/12/seasons-beatings-unhinged-democrat.html). The only reason everybody doesn't know about it is because he was a desperately needed semi-loyal Democrat in a liberal state. Now that has changed, and the liberal media will tear him apart. The story, which has been dormant for five months, will suddenly become front page news. Just wait and see.

Fuck Joe Lieberman. /Nothing to do with the conversation. But living in CT this reminded me of him. Hate that guy. And I don't use the term "hate" often.

Paterson might have cut a few things, but if Paterson was part of this at all I think it would be to have more push against him in his laundry list of taxes, fees and all manor of other charges he wants to raise against the people of this state to pay for his bloated state bureaucracy. Paterson is a nightmare.
Or to fight against the dismantling of, against the popular vote, local volunteer fire departments and incorporated villages - under the democrats guise of giving "choice back to the people". Or trying to prevent another heinous "bailout" of that bleeding archaic monster, MTA. There could have been any number of reasons, all of them valid but few I doubt in support of Paterson.
Unfortunately, the one that was named was gay marriage. Oye.
