View Full Version : Why I don't care much for Twitter

Over the weekend, Senator Grassley issued two Twitters (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/07/grassley-scolds-obama-health-care-comments/) critical of Obama.

Pres Obama you got nerve while u sightseeing in Paris to tell us 'time to deliver' on health care. We still on skedul/even workinWKEND.

Pres Obama while u sightseeing in Paris u said 'time to delivr on healthcare' When you are a 'hammer' u think evrything is NAIL I'm no NAIL.

I have two big problems with politicians who use Twitter. First, it encourages people to say whatever is on their mind without first taking time to consider. Always count to ten. Second, most of these Twitters seem to be typed on cell phones, which leads to the dumb looking "sentences" used by Grassley. He's a Senator. There's only 100 -- 99 right now -- of them in the country. Surely he can do better.

While I agree with Grassley on the substance of his complaint, it's going to be hard for most people to overlook the stupidity of the form he chose for his message.

The number of characters you can "tweet" is limited, dumbass. It has nothing to do with them being sent from a "cellphone." Furthermore, the majority of twitter's traffic comes from web-based applications or the site itself.

Nice try though, for a sub-par troll.

Neither of those things change the fact that he looks like a moron.

Dear Daniel,

I know you're not very bright, so I wanted to clear something up for you: I wasn't defending the messages or the individual who sent them; I was attacking our resident troll's analysis of the situation.

love,
X

Oh. So, you're arguing with someone intentionally trying to get people to argue with him and I'm not very bright?

Grassley is a whiner. They have 3 day work weeks for the most part and tons of breaks and holidays. Oh noes they have to work one weekend! POTUS is on call 24/7.

Although he is badly wrong in this particular case, I have noticed that Xaerve is one of the smartest people in this forum. You should be nicer to her.

This may be the single best post on these forums, ever.

I never engaged in an argument with him, I was simply clearing up a common misconception about Twitter (a company I consult with occasionally) and consequently demonstrated that part of his "big argument" was faulty because it rested on false premises. I know the definitions of all these "words" are hard for you bud, but hopefully this clears things up!

what was the misconception?

Please don't say that Clyde thought the messages were typed on a cell phone. If you're about to say that, go reread what he wrote.

Clyde is generally a very careful writer. He says precisely what he means to say.

Typing twitter messages on cell phones does not lead to dumb looking sentences, for the reasons I went over already.

I never said that, nor do I really care.

If I ever have any questions about the meaning of his posts I will certainly turn to you for guidance, scholar of Clyde.

Are you saying it is incorrect to say that Twitter messages seem to be typed on cell phones?

I'd agree with that. Not because they are typed on cell phones, but because the same driving force (getting as much content into as few characters as possible) are present in both tweets and texts.

Affirmative!
