We're not going to get into the debate over whether the "official rock song" for Oklahoma is the right one. But the raging fuss in the Legislature over a T-shirt seems to us to be more time wasted.

This all arose after an online vote selected the song "Do You Realize??" by the Oklahoma City band the Flaming Lips to be the state's official rock song.

The song received more than 10,000 of the 21,000 votes cast. Then the band members made a trip to the Legislature. Unfortunately, one band member, Michael Ivins, wore a red T-shirt with a yellow hammer and sickle on the front. Gee, Mike, why not just stick your finger in the legislators' eyes?

The shirt got some members of the House seeing red. So, they voted to kill the measure making the song the official state rock song. Hearing this, Gov. Brad Henry said he will sign an executive order Tuesday officially making "Do You Realize??" the official song.

Whew! Another major crisis averted. The republic is secure once more.

Oklahoma's governor is a Democrat, which is all that needs to be said.
