View Full Version : Droopy Pants and the Constitution

The citizens of Riviera Beach, Florida, voted overwhelmingly to make it illegal to wear droopy pants. Now some liberals are claiming that the new law is unconstitutional.
Last year, more than 70 percent of voters here backed an ordinance making it illegal to wear trousers low enough to reveal skin or underwear.
Other cities, including Lynwood, Ill., and Flint, Mich., have passed similar measures, but none appear to have pursued violators as energetically as Riviera Beach. Since the law took effect last July, 15 to 20 young men have been charged with violating the ordinance, defense lawyers say.
But with many of the cases pending, the Office of the Palm Beach County Public Defender last week challenged the ordinance on constitutional grounds.

I've got news for the liberals. Unless you've got a peace sign tattooed on your behind, then wearing drooping pants is not a form of "speech," and it's not protected by the constitution.

I saw someone walking down the street the other day with his pants damn near belted at the knees. I actually lolled that people still do that.

I never understood that look... first it makes you look like a poor slob who can't afford pants that fit.. then it's actually WORK to walk down the street, pulling up your pants every 2-3 steps.

The look came from 'gangstas' emulating prisoners with baggy pants, who have no choice but to wear pants like that because they're not given belts in prison.

Anyone who thinks that droopy pants are a threat to our society worthy of passing legislation is a complete tool.
CLEARLY, we should instead be focusing on cracking down on the 20-30 year old women who wear shirts. I mean, who's bright idea was it to let them do that anyway?!

If they are going to outlaw too loose pants they need to give equal time to banning too tight pants:

I thought it was actually a prison bitch thing? Where the prison bitches would wear their pants sagging like that so Bubba would have easier access and know who his bitches are?
I forgot where I heard that but it made me lol. And even if it's not true, tell it to them anyway so they'll feel gay for wearing their pants like fucking idiots.
I blame Back To the Future 2. Clearly the inside out pocket trend of 2015 is the root of this problem.

Man, if they are going to ban anything, ban the skinny jeans that guys are wearing. And seriously, wtf, you can't sell skinny jeans in a size 44" and still call them skinny. I saw them at a store and  'd.

While the whole "homosexual availability in prison" angle is not true (according to snopes and other sources) I did see an episode of Lock Up where a lifer (in for murder) said he found the style sexy, and that he would tell the new inmates that because he "liked booty".
So if you are into wearing your pants in this style, and do get sent to jail/prison, I would suggest abandoning the style till you were back on the streets (unless you like that sort of thing, who knows?).

I also don't see how it's unconstitutional if the majority voted that way...granted the mass of America are ignorant, but I'd say that in most circumstances, barring the 2008 elections, the masses don't vote.
You know, the majority of America sags now compared to the '40-70's. Pants were worn for a thousand years at the belly button. I don't know anyone that wears them that high...last person was probably my grandfather, he passed about 5 years ago.
To be fair, the army still measures you at the belly button for you Class A pants...but they've never been known for the whole fashion thing.

A lot of fat women still wear their pants that high to help keep their gut from sagging to the floor, thinking nobody will notice they're fat.

I wear my suit's pants at my belly button, as that is where they should be. Anyone saggy in a suit is a fucking retard anyways.

You know... in NYC it's legal for women to go topless, as long as they're not whoring themselves.

Don't know about Canada, but it's definitely NYC. The law was passed in the early 90's.
Here's a NY Post article about a lady who sued the city over it:

If this law gains steam in other communities I bet there will be some seriously pissed off cops. They're gonna have to stop eating donuts to catch people now instead of relying on their sagging pants to do the work.

Damn, now that is a side of it that I never thoguht about. Interesting, maybe market a whole line of "gangsta" clothes that make it hard to run away. And yeah, a lot of people need to have weight limits printed inside their clothes. I am a fat white man and I know better than to wear spandex and tight muscle shirts and crap. No one wants to see that, especially me.
