A law preventing immediate foreclosure proceedings was signed into effect yesterday.

I'd use the "it took them long enough", but Quinn hasn't been in office that long.

Now if they would move concealed carry legislation though at that speed, Quinn would be a no brainer come election time.

What sort of legislation do YOU want passed for CCW?

Yeah, I'm scared of the answer.

I'm not against it ... but there has to a restriction system in place via training and testing.

In every state I've had a CCW in, there are requirements for training courses and testing. In the CCW class I took, we had 6 hours of instruction, two hours of range time, and an accuracy test. Then there was fingerprinting at the county sheriff's office, a gun safety questionnaire, and some other things. Do you want something tougher, or do you just not know what you're talking about?

Edit: Oh, and any felony, mental illness, heavy medication, and a list of other things render you ineligible for a CCW license.

Are you trying to some sort of jackass or was that last part a joke?

I'm not sure if I would be comfortable knowing anyone with the ability to read and memorize answers can also carry a firearm. Currently the push (in IL) is for limited access permits. Meaning off-duty and retired law enforcement. Beyond that, a professional or security need should be required.

Aside from that ... make (yet) another tread on the subject.

I don't believe that all states have the same requirements. If they were all as stated above, I wouldn't want anything changed.

Err.. no, I'm dead serious. Those are the requirements. If you read them as an assault on you, get over yourself. And it's not just the "ability to read and memorize" as I said in my first post.

The sheriff who came in to lecture during my CCW course said that at first he was very hesitant about people having CCWs, but then he realized that the people getting them weren't the ones causing problems. Now he loves teaching the course.

Err ... the last part as in "Do you want something tougher, or do you just not know what you're talking about?".

Second, you don't know IL and "testing" ... meaning ask people with an IL CDL if they actually read the book.

Perhaps you should have specified what IL's laws are and how you'd have liked them changed instead of making blanket statements?

I received my CWL in Florida by sitting in a room with a bunch of scary folks for 2 hours as the instructor gave us the answers that would be on the test. Then we were handed the test and the instructor went almost question for question and gave the answers.

I'm all for gun rights and having the ability to get a CWL if you qualify.. but it's currently far too easy in Florida imo.

I'm not sure if you noticed .... but I mentioned legislation signed into IL law and legislation on the floor, also in IL.

I didn't make a blanket statement, I made a very pointed and specific statement ... you just didn't follow along very well. IL doesn't have CCW.

Alabama is even worse. Alabama is a "must issue" state.

You walk into your county sheriff, you apply for one, they run a quick and dirty statewide felony search, and if you turn up clean, they MUST ISSUE. It's a state law. You don't even have to tell them why you want one, nor do you need ANY training/education.

And if that wasn't crazy enough check out what States have Alabama reciprocity:

AK, CO, FL*, GA, ID, IN, KY, LA, MI*, MS, MO, NH*, NC, ND, OK, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, WY

Michigan is where I got mine. Its own requirements are fine, but its tourism business demands reciprocity with pretty much everywhere. It's definitely a problem.

Because someone would have had to follow your link to even find out you were talking about IL legislation. I don't keep a running list of local politicians for the entire US in my head.

Store owner, security guard, night clerk ... jobs/positions that puts a person's life at risk due to a criminal element.

Why not a homeowner? As long as there were trainings, classes and proper requirements in place, don't they deserve as much security as a store owner or night clerk?

Why are there asterisks after Florida, Michigan and New Hampshire?

Because technically these states only fully honor permits granted in their State. So whereas I may be able to drive through Florida with a concealed weapon in my glove box with an Alabama CCW, they would prefer me not use it to the full extend that theirs would grant and have me carrying with me all over the place.

Basically, they won't bust me on a firearms charge for having one, but I don't have all the appropriate rights that a Florida CWL would offer.

So what?

I'm just saying what's the big deal, or the big difference for that matter, for someone, anyone, who wants to have it on themselves for protection for whatever reason, as long as the requirements were sound?

I don't think it's a big deal either, if the requirements are sound ... as you said.

As two people have pointed out, the requirements are not sound within their respective states ... or at least one, the other just doesn't seem to have any requirements. I have reasonable doubt that IL is incapable of adhering to reasonable requirements.

Off-duty and retired LEO do not need a permit to carry per federal law. And does IL even issue a ccw? I thought it was currently restricted to security personnel only. And only during the hours of their job and a certain amount of time before and after for traveling to and from home only.

I like IN no felonies or domestic violence convictions(although you can be denied if a grand jury has found reason to charge you with a felony), no court ordered alcohol or drug abuse classes for 3 an 5 yrs respectively and not having been convicted of violating the firearm laws for I can't remember how many years off hand. Fill out the paperwork, pay $125 and get your lifetime ltch.

Easy or not, I would much rather give out a permit to anyone that takes the time to actually GET the permit and GO to a class rather than let every gang bangin, dope smoking 14 yr old punk on the street continue to out gun everyone else on the street. Think about it, if a person actually has the presence of mind to go apply for the permit, pay the tax, take the course and so on, then they are really trying to be law abiding citizens and not refuse and are likely NOT going to be the people that are part of the problem. We should encourage that.

For the record, I am in favor of "Shall Issue" laws that include a full fingerprinting like needed for school teachers, a photo suitable for ID, DNA sample, a course in safety and the law that doesn't take more than 8 hours to complete, a criminal background check and a valid clean drug test or proof of prescription validation for meds. I would also like to require laws to protect privacy of information from licensing except in the persuit of criminal investigation WITH individual probable cause.

Because the gun crime rate of people who have concealed weapons permits is so out of control right?
