View Full Version : Our Dear Leader

Terrorists around the world want to attack us. We are in two wars abroad. The economy is in a shambles. Millions have lost their jobs and life savings. No nominees for Treasury are before the Senate Finance Committee. The Treasury Secretary leans on Sen. Dodd to change the language of the Wyden-Snowe Amendment that would have limited bonuses...
...and where is our Dear Leader?
Filling out basketball brackets for ESPN, doing a West coast campaign stop and going on the Tonight Show.
:banghead:
Yes we can!

Hooray! Mindless and empty rhetoric! Do you know how many inane activities the last administration participated in while "terrorists wanted to attack us," or while starting the two wars abroad, or while handing out the billions of dollars to banks? Do you know where Bush was when Katrina hit?
Typical.
Bush! Bush!
Do you subscribe to the ignorant belief that the government can only do one thing at a time--just because we're in a war, we can't address social change, right?
Those ESPN basketball brackets sure address social change, at least to you I am sure.
The Tonight Show will grant us our freedom and civil liberties will rain down like jokes, in your world.
And because we're in tough economic times, we can't? Life goes on, even during a crisis, and people are capable of taking on multiple issues at the same time.
The Tonight Show, ESPN basketball brackets and campaign-style stops are not "taking on multiple issues".
Your "list" is especially ironic considering most conservatives (including myself)
Every time you post about being a conservative I get a good laugh. You from the Barney Frank School of Conservatism?
Start a thread called "My Conservative Views", and we can all get a good chuckle. K?
believe the government shouldn't be doing much to address the economic situation, and let the market adjust itself, but instead are handing out trillions of dollars of invented money, all the while you're complaining that the administration isn't out doing "more."
How about doing his job?
That is all I am asking.
Not gallivanting about keeping his "celebrity" going.
So he should be on a soapbox somewhere preaching the end of the world solemnly?
He did that, with his "catastrophe" comments over several days. Seemed everyone in his administration used that word (talking points worked), till they forced their spending packages through.
Now we have "sound economic fundamentals", according to the Anointed One.
Or perhaps handing out even more money?
You seem to prefer he spends it jetting around the country to boost his ego and poll numbers, while doing comedy shows.
I would be happy if he at least nominated some Treasury officials so the Senate Finance Committee could begin their process.
How many nominees for Treasury are waiting before the Finance Committee?
Zero.
In a time of financial crisis we have no Under Secretaries. Not one.
But we know our Dear Leader's picks for the Final Four!
Do you seriously read what you write?
All the time.
You attempted to deflect by using "Bush". Then spouted BS that had nothing to do with the original post.
I even took the time to answer, though I am not sure why I would waste that time on you. Perhaps because I sometimes see a glimmer of hope in a couple of your posts, and I do not want to join in and pile on when everyone is attacking you.

Just wanted to chime in and say that Mabus always sounds like a little bitch when he/she posts. That is all.

I think you're both disconnected and tremendous exaggerators on either side.
The economy IS in shambles and he should be appointing someone, but I don't think that means he should sit in his office and wallow in our misery either. I'd rather he keep jovial and do these social outtings to help with morale.

What would be even better is if Obama seeded the top 64 candidates for Treasury nominee, and then we could all do office pools.
Maybe even Obama could spend only as much time as it takes to fill out a bracket in selecting the nominees. I'm sure they're pretty analagous decision making processes.

There should be at least 4 (and possibly more) Treasury nominees waiting confirmation hearings.
There are 0.
What purpose does being the first sitting president to ever appear on a late night show do for us?
His Eminence is still campaigning for office. Like many of his rabid supporters he never got the news that now is the time to govern.

Like many of his rabid detractors, you never got the news that there is still time in a day to fill out an NCAA bracket.

I also think it is rather unfair to equate someone doing something OTHER than sitting at his desk 24/7 with doing nothing. I don't have a negative or positive opinion of Obama quite yet. I think the re-election is the time to take the measure of the man. As Bush (OMG COMPARING BUSH) did prove, it is rather hard for public opinion to sway a president's actions mid-term.

You know, I was watching the video of Obama filling out the bracket today on ESPN.com (which I thought was cool) and was thinking...someone's going to criticize him for this, even though millions of other Americans take a little time and do this during the workday.
If nothing else, it paints him as a normal American, which I'm not sure 100% of the country believes yet.
I see no problem with him doing Town Halls. It prevents him from being disconnected with the country's mood, which was one of the major problems affecting the Bush Adminstration.
As for the Leno appearance, eh, I'll cut him some slack.
As for the complaint about Treasury, maybe Senators shouldn't be threatening to harshly question nominees so much over past failures. (see Annie Nazareth for Deputy Treas. Sec., who was SEC Commissioner during part of the period that Madoff had his scam going)

Can you imagine the pressure being President must be? You don't just take the job home with you, you live at the job and there is not a waking minute that you are NOT the President. Everything you do or say is examined under a microscope, and broadcast to the world in a millisecond.
Not so much related, but imagine being dissected on everything you do. To how you part your hair, the clothes you wear, who you speak too, how firm your handshake is, if you spooged on someones dress, the dolls some manufacturer is making of your children, etc etc etc. Our society is ridiculous when there are more important things to ponder.

Do you know where Bush was when Katrina hit?
He was on the phone with Governor Blanco asking if she wanted to request National Guard support.
She said no. Meanwhile, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was on the radio begging people with buses or vans to come to New Orleans and transport people out, because he didn't bother to arrange for anything like that himself before the storm hit because he's an idiot.
Then everyone blamed Katrina on Bush.
Does that answer your question?

That happens here on the PC every day.

I actually don't have a problem with it.. Obama is still only human, isn't he? Should he be focusing on the economy 24/7/365? What's next, someone's going to bitch about how he gets almost SIX HOURS of sleep a night?
I just find it funny.. because you and I both know that if this was a Republican, it would probably be the lead story of how he isn't doing his job.

You forgot to add...We owe China a shitload of money via bonds. Oops?
Still, I don't fucking care what Obama does as long as his ass can cash the checks his mouth wrote. He's got four years people.

Like I said before, if I was Obama I'd grow an afro, get a white and call him Cracker, dress like a pimp, get a blinged out pimp cane and some gold fronts and just tell everyone to fuck it (and still do everything else he's doing). Maybe then people will stop giving a shit what he looks like, his color, and just focus on what he does.
I'd also great every dignitary with "Whatchew talk'n about Willis?!"

Can you please post the quotes and a link to any post in this thread that brought up his color or what he looks like?
What our president "does" was exactly what I was posting about.
He is still campaigning, but not governing.
I should not be surprised by this presidential popularity contest in the age of American Idol, but it still seems a silly and unproductive exercise when there is so much needing attention.
