So.. to start it off.
Are people that lazy that they'd spend hour upon hour asking for a specific gem? Wouldn't it be better to either a) hunt for it or b) get a new task?
And in the same token are people that cheap that they would spend an hour asking for a picker instead of going to Larton?

Playing plat, I pretty much only use NPCs for everything. It's mostly by choice now, because we do have people that will heal, pick, etc, but it became a habit when I'd play during these hours.
I think people just need to have a refresher course on the use of town NPC services.
As for the whole gem thing, I don't get why people just don't use the 15 minute logic rule. If a task takes you longer than 15 minutes, it is NEVER worth the trouble. However, there are some exception to this rule. If you're ALMOST done or think you're almost done, then going over the 15 minute rule is acceptable. If you're going for a certain title, then that also can be accepted.

And what exactly is the verb bounce? Like what is that action? Is it like a god damn happy version of a mosh pit?

Same action as that gif with the girl bouncing her big knockers all over the place.

God damn happy version of a mosh pit?
That one got a chuckle out of me. I had a fun experience talking to a gal the other night. She just finished making a big deal out loud in town central about how funny the "gods" were(announcing the emergency maintenance). She then started whispering ooc how she hated when people brought up stats on a item when selling it. She started doing that "What is 4x?" "What does hcp mean?" Hehehe. She then sasheyed out of the room. Well I guess she has some standards.
I hate it when people call the GM's gods.

I am that cheap. and i don't always have the patience or the inclination(sic<?>) to spend hours trying to farm gems. and boxes. Unfortunately, the gems they want me to find are also used in alchemy, goddamn it.
but the lure of 850 BPs and 1000 XP are very great, though.

So by extension, if somebody were to set up a bot picker in plat, would that be okay? Basically the same as Larton, but the xp isn't wasted. And it's cheaper.

This is why I psinet alias dumb fucking verbs like bounce (and the shorthand versions like boun) to something not dumb. boun = bounty != bounce
Another key one is when I try to "go (b-word)" and it comes out gob. Then I gobble like a tool. Thus, gob = go b\r.
PS: No, I don't gobble tools.

Yeah if the npc gives me a huge rate I'll hold onto it to be picked since it probably has an item in it, but under 5k I usually average out to 50% of the box's cost to get it picked.
It's useful in Vaalor and RR where about 5 rogues can open the top-level boxes.

The price is based on the lock and trap difficulty and I'm pretty sure has nothing to do with the contents of the box.
I've blown 6k getting a box opened that had 1k coins and a shit gem like a clear zircon before.

As someone who uses the NPC locksmith 99% of the time, I can promise you that the majority of the cost on box opening is due to content. Boxes that cost 5k+ to open usually have something decent inside it, whether an orb/rechargible gem or a box found item. Trap size also plays a part, however, in my testing, disarming the trap plays no factor in the cost changing.
I generally go into the NPC with about 15k coins on me per 14 boxes, and usually end up with 0 coins at the end of it, not including any box found items. So essentially, I have a net loss when I find boxes. With warcamps, you always chance it for items, but after going back to Nelemar, I can pull 70 boxes and not find a thing, and it is starting to cost me.

01-18-2009, 03:34 PM
The contents most defintely do have an effect on how much is charged. You really see this on lower level boxes. On my level 30ish characters, if they are being charged 5k+ to get a box open, it has an enhancive or nice gems in it.
Of course, this has all been gone over before. :P

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the drakar lance in your hand...
The harmonics generated tell you that the lance has been infused with the power of a fire elemental.
The lance resonates with your voice, indicating that it enhances its owner in the following ways:
It provides a bonus of 2 to Sorcerous Lore - Demonology Ranks.
This enhancement may not be used by adventurers who have not trained 10 times.
The lance looks to have a huge number of charges remaining.
You sense that the drakar lance will persist after its last enhancive charge has been expended.

Item is reposted with a lower MB of 3M.
After a day or two of nothing, I email the owner and say I'll buy it for 3M, no bidding.
She responds with: "I'm not willing to sell it for 3m, as a flat price. I plan on doing some more research, into exactly how much MIU is needed, and then reposting. If at that point there still isn't interest, perhaps I will then lower the BO."

This intersection links the bazaar routes with those bisecting and encircling the Landing. A few ruddyfaced sailors, loudmouthed dockworkers, and off-duty soldiers linger along the wall of a tavern, which is set back from the side of the road up a slight incline. A shaky wooden stairway, the bane of many an overimbiber's existence, leads up to the tavern door. You also see a pretty flower girl and a dwarven recruiter that is lying down.
Clearly the dirty dwarf recruiter is looking up the pretty flower girl's dress in an attempt to see if she's worth folding into his stable of other street girls

Crapping, shitting, fucking damn.
I finally went over the numbers on the Blessing lore reqs for healing spells since I noticed that Troll's Blood wasn't being more awesome with me closing in on 140 Blessing Lore ranks. Lo and behold, it actually takes 200 fucking ranks of SL:B to guarantee minor organ scarring is healed. What the jesus fuck? Who came up with these fucking numbers?! Why didn't I notice this earlier?! BLARGFH
Estild is open to suggestions for improving the lore. If this is the case and he is willing to look at spells outside of the empath circle I can definitely see this as grounds for improving the hell out of a few spells.

It was a mistake that the prestige points ever made it into the game; it's a mistake that I'd like to see fixed.
I think this would not be a very good change. Currently, the only incentive for Masters to continue hunting in a camp is PP. I know I most certainly would stop camping if I weren't getting more PP, and I'm sure there are others like that, as well.
Crossposted from the officials because I thought it was funny.

A local divinist has had visions of the child fleeing from a slimy little grub in Wehntoph near Wehnimer's Landing. Find the area where the child was last seen and clear out the creatures that have been tormenting him in order to bring him out of hiding.
A child who cannot escape from a slimy little grub.... shouldn't be saved.

All I've ever cared about was video games and they made me a millionaire. So maybe I don't know what the Civil War was, or who invented the helicopter even though I own one, but I did beat The Legend of Zelda before I could walk. I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

[OOC]-Jespin: "But by that point there are so many more Russians there than new Yorkers that you could never win a vote."
[OOC]-Jespin: "And they call all of your people terrorists, and falsely imprison them, and shoot at unarmed protesters."
[OOC]-Jespin: "Would you consider yourself a terrorist for wanting New York back?"

[OOC]-Astranged: "The boston tea party specifically targeted the tea. Not the ships."
[OOC]-Jespin: "Well gee, I'm sorry I was wrong on a minor matter of logistics involving the boston tea party. It still remains a valid example. Do you think every action of the IRA specifically targetted people instead of goods?"
[OOC]-Astranged: "I think if we're to rely on your version of history, it would be riddled with fallacies. Since again, you've proved your lack of knowledge of history."
[OOC]-Jespin: "So sit in your parents basement and continue to nitpick my words until you're satisfied that you are trained to be the best dungeon master ever."
[OOC]-Jespin: "What's your degree in Astranged?"
[OOC]-Jespin: "And how much money have you got in the bank?"
[OOC]-Astranged: "I have a neice in middle school. She gets $10 a week in allowance and is in 7th grade. She got taught about the boston tea party. What's your excuse?"
[OOC]-Jespin: "My excuse is that I haven't studied the boston tea party since I was in 3rd grade."
[OOC]-Jespin: "So if you really want to go down this route, tell me what your degree is in, and we'll arrange a wager. 5000 dollars, held in escrow. Me against you. 1000 general academic questions."
[OOC]-Astranged: "You already failed at that on the PC. You're going to try it again in GS? Really?"
[OOC]-Jespin: "I didn't fail at it. Tisket backed out because she's full of shit."
[OOC]-Jespin: "I have a lot more respect for your intelligence than I do hers."
[OOC]-Astranged: "That's amusing, because honestly I have great respect for your ability to talk out of your ass, but none for your intelligence."
[OOC]-Jespin: "Well then it's easy money for you isn't it?"
[OOC]-Astranged: "I could also enter a ponzi deal or sell my leftover and old gold jewelry for easy money. It doesn't mean I'm going to do it."
[OOC]-Jespin: "Do you know what escrow is?"
[OOC]-Guerand: "intimately"
[OOC]-Xolean: "Eww?"
[OOC]-Jespin: "Never been to Sneem Guerand. I spend most of my time in Belfast."

[OOC]-Vandele: "eh...ponzi deals are great, if you get in early, and leave"
[OOC]-Guerand: "you agree to a lawyer moderator?"
[OOC]-Jespin: "No offense Guerand, but I haven't talked to you enough to guage your intelligence yet."
[OOC]-Jespin: "And I'd insist on a lawyer moderator."
[OOC]-Guerand: "you flung the gauntlet not I"
[OOC]-Guerand: "man up, or shut up"
[OOC]-Jespin: "I flung the gauntlet against Astranged."
[OOC]-Guerand: "then I champion him"
[OOC]-Astranged: "Guerand will duel for my honor!"
[OOC]-Jespin: "I'm not the most intelligent person in the world. Never claimed to be. I am in it for money. If I'm not relatively sure the odds are with me, there's no reason for me to do it."

ALTER 16: Armor
Armor cannot be altered to resemble normal clothing like gowns, bodices, nightgowns, shirts, pants, etc. Simply put, armor is armor and should look heavy enough to do its job.
Leg Coverage
There are a wide variety of accessories which may provide leg coverage. Strictly speaking, the material used to create a leg armor does not affect an adventurer's statistics. Adventurers may find leg coverage in the form of leg greaves, and coudieres, among others. Base DU/ST is 200/25.
http://www.play.net/gs4/info/armory/armoraccessories.asp#legcoverage
So what ARE approved nouns for leg armor pieces? Not only was I in the dark (no help on the website), but the merchant was too (no help from HIS guidelines).
I really think situations like this would be greatly helped if a more concise alter approval list was posted publicly by staff.

It is a "common" drop, in that it wasn't intentionally put there. There are a few types of tradebars, and my favorite of rare-drop treasure items, different types of petrified wood. They aren't worth much of anything, really, but I find them pretty.
I have a large platinum trade bar in my locker that's worth quite a bit.
I also like the "Large" gems that pop out sometimes that are worth like 20k.
Hopefully the new 110 area has a shitload of "large" gems and tradebars.
Tradebars are also awesome in that they weigh < 2 or ~ 2. I can't remember.

The broken-off ebon satin shoe stiletto? Yeah, unfortunately that got tagged and had to be changed. As I mentioned on the officials, Scribes wouldn't let me go until we had something I liked, and in the end, I got a something just as close done that still gets to the same effect...and (more importantly) fits with QC standards.
It was a shame, I was a little annoyed, but in the end it's a 0x dagger that's purely an RP toy...and I still walked away happy.

I would say OTF is the worst area for a warrior to try to hunt with limited spells. No way to control the incoming attacks. The Temple is likely the best. A good mix of non-casters, and the casters that are there aren't going to be fading in from invisibility. Yeah, you may still get cast at but it is far more controllable.
If I was a warrior I would be using PEER a lot.

The only problem with this is that she wasn't expressing an opinion or expressing her feelings of happiness with being a warrior. She made a statement that basically stated an incorrect fact. I would've corrected her too in a situation like that.

I'm not sure how you can get 'I like to play my warrior' from what she said, but even going with that, my reply of: "Warriors aren't on easy street" and "They die just like the did before.. to CS spells" doesn't do anything towards saying she shouldn't have fun (with the warrior you assume she plays) or that her enjoyment is wrong.
It takes two to have an argument or discussion. The fact she continued to reply to me seems to indicate that she's willing to continue the argument/discussion.
Honestly, I like you, but can you really give me an example of a time when you saw something on OOC you thought might be wrong and didn't start an argument about it?
I'm usually logged in for several hours at a time doing this or that. There have been plenty of discussions, conversations and arguments on OOC that I've watched and said nothing. Opinions that I thought were stupid, or uninformed or whathaveyou I generally let pass by. GS comments/questions of a mechanics nature I tend to pay more attention to and will usually respond if I'm bored enough or know the right answer.
Do I always do this? No, not always. Sometimes I don't know positively my thoughts are correct. Sometimes I don't want to make the effort to type anything.
Sidenote: I'm not sure how you can question why I bothered to reply to her 'one comment' when you did the same.... STOP INSTIGATING ARGUMENTS WESLEY!

It seems that GMs have taken the stance that corsets are underwear, so in following that mindset, I'm hoping that they will be assigned a more appropriate slot that would be compatible with armor-worn items as well.
Corsets here are over-garments, but they should be under armor. It would looks bit silly to be wearing a corset over full plate! In our world, a corset serves the same purpose that a bodice would over a gown or shirt, a la Renn faires. They cinche and give more shape to the form.

Whoa... nothing like being a little late to the party on that post, huh? I didn't even see the date, just recalled the recent conversation I had with Debia about her corset.
Since we had a no undergarments nor an appropriate slot for them, when corsets were first created, they were released with the understanding that they were actually designed to be more decorative outer wear and bustier-like. A la Madonna.

[Melgorehn's Valley, Grasslands]
A lone scrawny tree rises up from the grass. Two large owls perch on the branches above, arguing between themselves and occasionally gazing impassively at you with eerily lambent eyes. The tree might provide some shelter from the wind, but the respite from the chill is not worth sharing the company of the quarrelsome birds. You also see some full leather, a wooden shield, a short sword and a small mound.

One bird says something quietly to the other bird. The other bird looks at you, then cackles.

A huge ruckus erupts from the tree. Looking up, you see the birds fighting over a large caterpillar, each tugging on one end. With a nearly audible snap, the caterpillar breaks in half, and the birds, still squabbling, messily eat their halves.

It takes you a moment to focus on the parchment scroll.
The parchment scroll is blank.
It takes you a moment to focus on the dusty parchment.
On the dusty parchment you see
(606) Phoen's Strength
(215) Heroism
(313) Prayer
(307) Benediction
(310) Warding Sphere
I know some are junk, but I like collecting the odd-looking ones (even the scroll-cutter ones sometimes) and less common spells. I probably need to get the lock/unlock/charge status on these come to think of it...

Looks like you're a collector of the arcane circle as well, Farmer, but if you decide to part with some of those 800 circle scrolls let me know. I am interested in a few. There was also a couple other scrolls in that batch you had I am interested in as well.

Yet another player killed by lazy typing.
[Spider Temple, Central Chamber]
The flickering, shifting light of candles fills this imposing central chamber with moving shadows. Overhead a web-patterned tracery of red glaes supports the high domed ceiling, which rises tens of feet over the altar that lies at the center of the chamber. Candle sconces flank each of the doors that lead to the "legs" of this shrine to the spider goddess. Your eyes are drawn to the grotesque arrangement of inlaid floor tiles which depict scenes of death by poison. You also see a mammoth arachnid, a reinforced shield, a short sword, a short sword, a reinforced shield, a scimitar, a black basalt arch, a bejeweled door and a modwir door.
Obvious exits: southwest, northwest

Anyone able to make light of why this item is singing as a "holy item"? (This is the loresong results from my bard, who is level 22...)
-
You sing in Guildspeak:
"Necklace in my hands
What is your value in these lands?"
As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the star sapphire necklace in your hand, and you learn something about it...
This is a small item, under a pound. In your best estimation, it's worth about 20,000 silvers.
You sing in Guildspeak:
"Necklace in my hands
What is your purpose in these lands?"
As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the star sapphire necklace in your hand, and you learn something about it...
You sense a faint aura of magic around the star sapphire necklace. You sense that this is some type of holy item. From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the necklace is to cast a spell or perform some magical purpose.

Couldn't hit the hill giants, and was about to head back inside town when Deron shows up.. and welll.. figured now's a good a time as any for payback for earlier.
[Wehnimer's, Outside Gate]
Citizens, merchants and assorted dregs of society jostle against you before the great wooden gates of Wehnimer's Landing. Harried guards and militiamen try to keep the chaos to a minimum, but it is hard to keep track of those entering, let alone leaving, this large trading post. A dirt path encircling the wooden palisade of the town leads east and southwest. Nailed prominently to the wooden wall beside the gate is a sign you really should read. You also see a floating fiery red eye that is flying around, a big-lipped warty hill giant that is lying down, a white flask, a massive wheeled tower and a Wayside Inn.

[Monastery, Meditation Room]
The smell of pungent incense dominates this room. A globe hangs from the ceiling casting dim light over the room. A small, hand-woven mat lies on the floor in front of a small shrine with two unlit candles atop it. Several other mats lie rolled up next to a small wicker basket. Standing in the corner is a simple wooden box. You also see a black void, a Sheruvian monk that appears stunned, a Sheruvian harbinger that is lying down, a small wooden door and a black vaalin urn.

Coup is pretty amazing, I love the messaging and mechanically it's great too. One of, if not my absolute, favorite skills in the game.
Especially fun as a warrior, if I pop every ability I have (society, a massive coup kill, surge, crowd press (small weapon twc), surge, and berserk....you can get some insane AS going for a short while.
DoctorUnne

Coup is one of the if not the most underrated cman in the game. Great for group hunting since you can just hold back and wait for others in your group to stun and do the damage and then you just finish it off and give everyone the AS bonus. Especially useful in camps. And the highest bonus remains as long as you keep it going, meaning if you get a +40 AS bonus on your first coup, all you have to do is one more coup every minute to keep the +40 group AS indefinitely. If only it were cheaper in stamina cost.

Many-hued clay forms the walls, ceiling, and floor of this low, twisting cavern. Dozens of stalactites drip thick liquids in every color of the rainbow. It takes a keen eye and a quick step to avoid an unintended change in hair color. The clay that oozes from the walls and drops from above forms dozens of multihued puddles around you. Grumbling, uncooperative dwarves loiter in every corner. You also see a small cave with a sign hanging over the opening, a rough wooden placard and a rickety wooden bar with some stuff on it.

This small, simple foyer is elegantly paneled in polished dark walnut. Crimson carpet spreads from wall to wall and extends off to the west. Rough outcroppings of hardened clay protrude from the walls taking on a dark green incandescence, slowly shifting in intensity as you approach them. You feel a steady flow of air at your feet but its source is hidden in the darkness.

Took hundreds of swings trying to get this little bastard to flare and wouldn't work for days. Then suddenly I get it to work and now it actually coughed up a mana vial without connecting. Go figure.
XXXXXXX swings an elaborate golvern dagger at an Ithzir initiate!
AS: +466 vs DS: +396 with AvD: +23 + d100 roll: +3 = +96
A clean miss.
XXXXXXX's golvern dagger twists and the handle's base splits open and spits an incandescent crystalline vial out and onto the ground where it lands with a crystalline **TINKLE**.
An Ithzir initiate writhes in agony as some mana is stripped from it!

I believe it was stated the archery contest does take skill into account, but there's also a random factor so that it doesn't automatically go to whichever capped character enters. If a skilled archer misses the target, maybe there was a sudden gust of wind at the exact wrong moment or something.

And really... none of the games during the festival were games based on trained skills/mechanics... for the most part, they were purely meant to be for fun -- open to anyone, regardless of level/skill. It was pretty openly stated before the festival ever even opened that this particular archery contest wouldn't be based on skill. It wasn't ever our intention to lead anyone to believe that it would be, though I am sorry that it soured the experience for you!

Never seen this happen before, usually if I focus mstrike and it kills on the first hit, no extra attacks occur.
You explode into a fury of strikes and ripostes, moving with a singular purpose and will!
You thrust with an elegant golvern lance at a steel golem!
AS: +251 vs DS: +83 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +75 = +282
... and hit for 80 points of damage!
Neck broken.
The steel golem twitches several times before dying.

Strike to abdomen punctures stomach!
A steel golem freezes completely before falling to the floor in pieces.
