You walk through a sturdy wooden door.

This part of the cavern seems intimate after the expansiveness just around a bend of the red stone. Recesses all along the east wall give the rock a filigreed appearance which belies the vast size of each enclosure. The fine sand is a constant carpet, however, the light it expends is much dimmer here, fading to a soft twilight within the eastern niches. To the south, the walls swirl to create an oval passageway into another cavern where more of the recesses can be glimpsed. You also see a stiff sandy pack, a jagged stone ledge with some stuff on it and a narrow fissure.

You see High Lady Demietria Ta'Mori Faendryl the Witch.
She appears to be a Dark Elf.
She is average height and appears to be an adult. She has sultry violet eyes and fair skin. She has waist length, flowing auburn hair streaked with silver. She has a delicate face and tall upswept pointed ears.
She has a set of five lustrous onyx rings in the upper ridge of her left ear, a tiny red heart tattoo on her waist, a sun and moon tattoo on her thigh, and a moon and stars tattoo on her thigh.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing [B]a blackened mithril greathelm, a choker of diamonds suspending a sliver-thin icy blue sickle, a bell-trimmed gold silk scarf, a glossy black raven-feather cloak, a blood red ballgown ornamented with a row of howling black demons climbing the sleeves, a Faendryl crest, a brilliant eahnor rose, a sigil-etched wide silver armband, some fitted deep black gloves, a long antique gold ribbon, a bejeweled star ruby-clasped runestaff harness slung over her shoulder, some battle weathered leathers adorned with a silver crescent moon and a dragons-tear diamond star nestled in the arc, a thin vibrant red bathing chemise, a fine platinum wristlet with a tiny ruby heart charm, a linked ruby demon miniature bracelet, a despanal wedding ring, a shiny gold ring, a triple-stranded waistchain fastened with a ruby dragonfly, an owl-etched polished silver case, a ruby-clasped black leather pouch, a silver-traced pale sapphire anklet, and a pair of charming thigh-boots.

Even excluding all the other ugly shit.. do these (bolded) things really go together? Am I the only one that thinks this looks fucking stupid?

He had a gleaming carmiln short bow.
You discard the arbalester's remaining useless equipment.
He had 154 silvers on him.
You gather the remaining 154 coins.
Interesting, he carried a lavender chambray quiver on him.
He had nothing else of value.
The bones of the Citadel arbalester disintegrate, leaving behind his armor and gear.

Ta'Mori was a short-lived Faendryl group in game. Several years ago they managed to have a little festival in game (I think it might have been the Eahnor Rose festival, but I could be wrong). Foxs and a few others are still running around, though I think the MHO aspect of it is now defunct.

Seriously second guessing my choice to switch over from col right now....

Why? Because the week-long trip to mastery has a couple bumps in the road? Grow a pair, seriously.

Every time I hear someone complain about the 4 special tasks, I feel like punching them in the junk. From an IC perspective, if you can't handle these tiny challenges that just take patience and persistence, then Droit doesn't want you in the society. In OOC terms, we've got the most mechanically useful society for most square or semi builds with no upkeep whatsoever!! Surely you can handle a week or two of effort and a couple deaths on your way to REAL ULTIMATE POWER.

My scrollwarrior is a Sunfist Master. While the society itself is not mechnically difficult or the tasks particularly hard, the final task was something else entirely. It is not hard (OOC wise), but for my guy (and for any aelotai I'd imagine) the experience was daunting and left him shaken. Definately having no idea what would happen added to it. He has a great respect for any Sunfist master now. Whoever wrote that up did a fantastic job on it.

Dateline 7/1/2009: FINANCE AND TRADE MINISTRIES ANNOUNCE STIMULUS PLAN · on 7/1/2009 12:21:28 AM 10976

Reply

The Ministers of Finance and Trade today jointly announced a new economic stimulus plan to encourage trade between Ta'Vaalor and Kharam Dzu, the dwarven mining community located on Teras Isle. King Tyrnian has authorized a transfer of five hundred million silvers to the coffers of the Borthuum Mining Company in an attempt to encourage Kharam Dzu citizens to visit the Fortress and patronize local businesses.

When asked about the large sum, Exchequer Arnhal Kerithoth Vaalor stated, "Well, the coffers are overflowing, so His Majesty figured the larger the sum, the more the dwarves would come and spend." Commerce & Trade Minister Jatherthar Daeten Vaalor also commented, "This is just laying the foundation for a stronger future. When the citizens of Kharam Dzu show up to patronize local shops, we'll be building that habit for all future shopping purchases as well."

Local dwarven citizens were overheard debating the wisdom of such a donation, considering "the marked lack of proper ale this side of the DragonSpine."

Here's an item I bought and sold in 2000 at some point. Anyone seen it around? Just curious...no special attachment.

====================================

multi-colored butterfly talisman, weighs 1 lb.

As you rub your butterfly talisman, you feel a sense of lethargy wash over you. Hairy filaments begin forming in the air around you, glowing faintly as they mesh to create a barrier enshrouding your entire form. Your eyelids grow suddenly heavy, and you feel yourself slipping into a peaceful slumber.

Your head swims as you sleep, darkness enveloping your vision in your dreams, the blackness seeming to constrict you.

Your entire body tingles lightly as you continue to sleep.

You are vaguely aware of a warm but gentle fire that seems to spread through your veins.

A dream of a bright sunny day fills your mind. You see a small butterfly flitting lazily over a flowery meadow. The serenity of the scene soothes you as you continue to sleep.

As you sleep, the mystical healing energy of the chrysalis courses through your body.

Your head swims as multi-colored swashes of light swirl about you. The ever-changing patterns are oddly soothing, and you feel rested as they fade from your dreams.

As you awaken from your peaceful slumber, you see that you have been encased within a cocoon! With a bit of a struggle you are able to wriggle your arms up to your chest, and with a great heave you crack the side of the chrysalis, punching a hole through the thin wall! It takes only a few moments to enlarge the hole and escape the giant shell. As you step from the chrysalis, it crumbles and fades into nothingness.

[The Crossroads]
The soft white mist that seems to sparkle with a faint glow lazily reaches this far and continues to extend in every direction as far as you can see, and several new portals open up before you, leading to mysterious places. Which will you approach next? You also see a large turnip tree, heavily laden with ripe turnip fruits, an ebony-framed mirror and a large corridor leading back to the main entry.
Obvious paths: northeast, east, southeast, southwest, west, northwest
>tap tree

In the turnip tree you see a a big golvern pitchfork.

A broad shelf of rock forms a safe turning point for the trail, so the trail takes the opportunity to reverse itself again and continue to climb. You also see a greater orc.

A greater orc hobbles slowly up, uttering a curse under her breath.

A greater orc breathes her last gasp and dies.

mana capacity == value

They are one and the same.

Mekthros did some research ones showing exactly what value would be used by each spell. I don't know if it got saved somewhere.

And really, players are probably the ones who know most (considering the current GM status).I once spent 2 hours in game explaining to sirina how scrolls worked visavis the broken scroll combining box that was at ccf.

Some spells use lores in accordance with the seed chart, others use their own formula which may or may not be disclosed to players. Dark Catalyst, for instance, does not follow lore charts therefore you can't really get precise numbers.

No idea. Some mechanics they're very open about, some they're not. Sometimes one GM wont tell you something and another will come along and give you the information. Hell, players defend not being given information so they can attempt to figure it out on their own. The whole thing seems arbitrary.

That's easy to figure out on your own with testing.

DMG can be calculated down to the number by endrolls and proper math ratios utilizing the DF factors on the wiki pages. You then take it out of the number you actually got, minus it, and that's the amount added.

I am unsure on shows, but alter guidelines are 15/15/15 for a short descript, and a long descript can be up to 12 words. Some GM's have gone past 12, all the way to 15 on a couple of my items, but that's not the norm. Mostly, just 12. Character length isn't really an issue.

A script action's character length can only be 250 characters if you're designing it. Didn't know that until a few weeks ago.

How does summoning lore decrease the random range of the landing location?

When Spirit Guide (130) is cast, there are 15 possible locations (with many repeating) for each realm where you can land. The locations are ordered so the more desirable locations are at the top of the list (lower number being better). First, it randoms between the first 7 rooms. If a Wizard or Bard is casting the spell, 5 is added to the result, while everyone else gets -1 for every 30 Minor Spiritual spell ranks they know. Clerics with Prayer (313) active get a random 0 to 3 modifier removed from their result. If the result is <= 0, it randoms again from 0 to 4. Lastly, a ((seed 10 summation of your Spiritual Lore, Spirit Summoning ranks) / 2) is subtracted from the result. The resulting number is the room location on the list where you land.

The sprite shit bugs out very easy. I'm just going on what I've seen when a dude was level 16 and had one and started blabbing about it... And then he disappeared and came back bitching about his sprite being taken and having a warning for abuse of game mechanics or whatever.

It only makes sense to me that they'd put either a time or level limit on it.

Okay this heirloom search bounty is starting to annoy me. When you receive the bounty does the heirloom get assigned to a specific room in the searchable area or is it random?

Not in a specific room.

This task is assigned by a town guard and is one in which an item is lost in a specific area. To complete it, one must kneel with empty hands and search in a specific area. The item is not in a specific room before you start searching, so any room you start to search in will do. However, staying in a single room is ineffective. Futhermore, any rooms searched back-to-back do not count, thus a minimum of 3 total rooms are required for a loop (although it is possible to find an heirloom on the first attempt in a new room). Training in Perception helps a lot for this task, and it is likely that the spell Presence does as well. Rewards the level of creatures in the area you are assigned to search.

Androidpk
08-08-2015, 07:27 PM
So the more times you search in the same room the odds of finding it decrease? I've been doing the above, I search 5-6 times and move to a different room. I've never had it take more than 20 minutes to find an heirloom, usually it's much faster though. This particular one though I've been at it for almost 2 hours. Low level guy so I only have 14 ranks of perception but I'm using 402. About ready to drop the bounty.

Roblar
08-08-2015, 08:02 PM
Search 1x in a room and move on. You can come back to it after trying 1 or 2 other rooms. No chance of finding it if multiple attempts without moving.

[Icemule Trace, Town Center - 2300]
The bustling town comes together in this square. Halflings dressed in varying fashions stand about, some chattering happily, others reclining on cloaks laid on the ground. One ancient halfling leans against the base of the large ice statue of a mule, snoring blissfully. A feeling of community pervades the area, putting you immediately at ease. You also see a gold-framed sign, a colorful silver-bound barrel emblazoned with a row of tiny grey penguins, a carved ice bench with some stuff on it and a blanket of snow.
Also here: Xjii, Dattawey who is sitting, Aristus who is sitting, Lord Barlimoeur who is sitting, Aithe who is sitting

Barlimoeur grimaces as his wharf rat suddenly cranes around his face to see something, its paw anchored onto his nose. A sudden slip sends the rodent flailing and clinging wildly to Barlimoeur's front before scrambling back up to his shoulder with an embarrassed and sulky squeak.
>
[lnet: sending location to GSIV:Zlukhaine...]

A number of halflings scurry in, led by the Halfling deputy.

With great ease, the Halfling deputy grabs Barlimoeur and shackles his wrists.

"Ah-ha! The boys at the Tartifacts said I might find something interesting here," says the Halfling deputy.
The Halfling deputy then drags him off.

While he's walking around looking for creatures you (or your script) finds and kills all 4 of them in 3 seconds each.

No idea whatsoever if that's actually what happened or not, but if you see someone else in an area (particularly a low level one) it might be worth making sure they have something to fight.

08-23-2015, 01:25 AM
What level? Make sure you prioritize getting 425 while staying current in the sorcerer circle. Wisdom/Aura enhancives will help your CS as well, but unfortunately being a hybrid means you need to max both to get the same benefit a wizard or cleric would get maxing just one. Don't be afraid to curse things to lower their TD if needed as well.

Fallen
08-23-2015, 02:00 AM
Yeah, without sacrificing to triple the sorcerer circle it'll be rough until 425, especially if you placed your stats for growth. Don't forget about 1700 to stretch out mana along with twisted/bone wands, or even better ranger rods imbedded with those spells. Those orbs are nice before level 20. They give better benefits until that point.

Androidpk

As the player of a rogue who was made a speculative investment of 1.5mil post cap exp worth of TPs into 60 ranks of earth lore for an extra +5 strength bonus out of 509 (which doesn't actually occur), I find these changes currently unworthy of lore training. Actually, even from the perspective of my wizards, I think the conclusion holds so far.

Low-level lores could have been made an attractive option with the review. So far, it has just held to the underwhelming teasers from a good 6 years ago. It's nice to close the books on this old promise but if it just holds to the initial intent, I don't think there will be much to be excited over, unfortunately. I think the Simucon "new spells to compensate for 506, 515, 519 nerfs" teaser will be way more interesting than the entire lore review.

First off, I am not the Forging Guru, GM Coase is the Artisan Guilds Guru and as such Forging is within his purview.

However, I have been given approval to post responses in the Forging Topic. This means that while I can't address any questions about what's pending or being worked on as far as the Forging System goes, I can provide information on the system as it currently functions.

So, Brian, when you say, "I'm interested in a more detailed explanation."

I'd need to have some fairly focused questions to respond to. For instance, I can confirm that Frorin's information is correct:

For the grinder, the average of a crafter's Dex Bonus, Discipline Bonus, and Strength Bonus is applied to the success chance as a positive modifier.
For the forge, the average of a forger's Constitution Bonus, Discipline Bonus, and Strength Bonus is applied to the success chance as a positive modifier.
For the vise, the average of a crafter's Discipline Bonus and Dexterity Bonus is applied to the success chance as a positive modifier.

As Frorin stated, both profession and race provide modifiers, although unless you're considering starting a new weaponsmith, information on those may be of no interest to you.

Regarding..."Perhaps I can use any enhancives I own strategically to up my chances a little..."

I will say that one set of comments within the vise script suggests that the stat bonus figures averaged are a PC's enhanced stat values, but I would have to either become more familiar with the specific stat fields or simply watch a PC wearing enhancements at work in a workshop to verify whether the enhanced bonuses are the figures being picked up and used by the forging scripts.

And. "...I just want to know which way to go, or if it even matters past a certain point."

That's where I'd really need something more specific to respond to, although if you were simply intending to convey frustration at the lack of specific information I would consider it to have been effective.

Do grimswarm now randomly spawn now? I thought they only spawned outside of camps if someone in the area had a GoS task. I've been noticing them outside of Icemule lately, even when it seems I'm the only other person in the area.

If a camp is full they can start spilling out into the area.

>>According to some old, old information I have, the stats named affect your chance of successfully creating the item, and NOT your chance of getting a best piece.
That's right. The stat bonus information I posted is simply the effect those stats have on the chance of success at a given workshop task. That information was not at all addressing "best" results modifiers.

The system computes a few distinct values. 1) Task Success or Failure. 2) Skill Improvement aka Learning aka Aha's. 3) Task Results - whether it's a Grinder, Forge or a Vise result - aka Quality. So, those stat bonuses I posted about are strictly related to #1.

Also, as an aside, I'm focused pretty narrowly at the moment on an existing project, so I won't be taking the time to post more here until that's done. Right now it looks like that'll run into this weekend or maybe even early next week. But I will be providing more information, so don't spend a significant amount of time and effort attempting to produce data to derive info that may end up being posted here in a few days. Unless you really want to, of course.

A fair number of specific questions have been raised in the past few posts, so I'll be addressing those as soon as my time frees up a bit. Then we can go from there.

More random forging information. Apparently, it is also nice to know that you can APPRAISE forging pieces (as in the parts, not the weapon itself) to tell what quality they are.

Question in the random thread, I saw someone mention in another post that you can have flares removed. I have a spikestar I'd like the void flares removed from so I can enchant it up a level and then sanctify for guiding light. Does this happen via special merchant?

Yep. It happens occasionally, and demand isn't that high, so you should be able to get the work done if you can find the merchant. Keep an eye on the calendar.

The following Q&A is extracted from an email chain with Estild. I had originally asked on the Officials, but that thread blew up into a whole lot of angry wizards posting. Wiki pages have been updated.

Q: how is mana control skill taken into account when it comes to casting from scrolls or using magical items?

A: It counts 1/2 for major and profession spells circles.

Q: 1/2 for non-native major and profession spell circles, and fully for minor and native?

A: Yep.

We have something entirely different than bonding potions in the works. No, it's not a SimuCoin item. No, I won't be giving you any details on it. There isn't a timeline either, but it's being worked on.

But the weapon bonding potions in DR would not work in GS. It's a completely different setup there. So even if nothing was being worked on, there would never be a weapon bonding potion.

My understanding is that there's probably going to be a shakedown period where players and standard behavior need to be adjusted. Others have mentioned this, and I believe a few people are accidentally smacking themselves with spells when they EVOKE where they were used to auto-targeting with INCANT. Odds are good we need a set of flags to say whether INCANT and EVOKE auto-target independently.

Yeah, we probably are going to need to create a player flag to let their INCANT auto-EVOKE spells.

Yeah.... The dyer's tent turns things into "a <COLOR> <INSPECT MATERIAL> <NOUN>".

So "some leather brigandine armor" that inspects as "mainly crafted out of steel" when dyed red would become "some red steel armor" etc....
