Okay, so I'm making a thread where we can call these things as they come.

So far, according to CNN, McCain has Kentucky (putting him at 8) and Obama has Vermont (putting him at 3). Indiana, which hasn't gone Dem since LBJ, is too close to call so far.

So grand total:

Obama: 3
McCain: 8

Thing with Georgia is that there are pockets of dominate Obama support.. and those pockets could go overwelmingly for Obama.. which could change the state.

Well, it's "over" for McCain, should he lose just one of the 3:
Ohio, NC, and Florida

Ohio is still only 1-2%, so still too early

Florida is still close, down 51-48 with 43% reporting, with portions of the northern 1/3 of the state (definitely Red) not yet shaded...

NC is the worry at the moment, down 52-47 with 24% reporting, with portions of the coastal regions of the state (more likely Blue) not yet shaded...

Well, they're saying a lot of the young vote and a lot of the first time vote is going to Obama. Pinellas and Hillsborough certainly have more of those than other counties, and you don't start getting into the racist redneck and older people kind of votes til you hit Hernando county. Might have something to do with it.

*Disclaimer- I'm not saying that only racist rednecks and old people vote for McCain. I AM saying that racist rednecks don't like black people, and that Brooksville Florida in Hernando county was the very last town in the U.S. to get rid of segregation (and it was sometime insanely late. Maybe even early 80s. I'll have to look it up again).

Obama has finally taken a lead in VA with most of the outstanding vote coming from NoVa. NC will be extremely close, most of the vote remaining is coming from smaller rural areas which vote red, but not many people there. Florida has a lot of outstanding votes from Miami-Dade, its a lock. Indiana is close as hell. Obama is down only 12000 votes with a lot of blue areas yet to be fully counted.

But the real crazy thing is, 51 million votes already with only 35% of the votes counted. That's fuckin crazy. 121 total votes last election, and this election is poised to absolutely shatter that.

Obama now ahead in Indiana with 93% accounted, and almost all remanining precincts in Marion County and the Illinois Corridor. That one hits below the belt.

Florida is over. Palm and Miami are have a lot of votes yet to be counted, and he's up 200. That one actually is a shocker, I expected McCain to carry it.

Obama ahead in Va now as well with a lot of NoVa yet to be counted. Expected that one.

NC is going to be razor razor close, but with Franklin County and Durham uncounted, that one may go to Obama as well.

Missouri is real close with nothing counted near St Louis, and now Montana is voting blue?

This is going to be a complete landslide...

All in all, I'm just really glad, and proud to be alive in the day and age where we can have a black man and a woman try for their shot at presidency. It really is amazing.

I'm having a great time watching the racists run around like the sky is falling on various message boards I frequent.

My god, the man can speak. I adore the feeling of pride that I have right now, knowing that this is going to be the person representing our country to the world - an intelligent, well spoken, hopeful person.

Seriously. If he performs a quarter as well as he can talk, we'll be in awesome shape.

I so wanted to make a thread just for them but I was too lazy to scroll through the emote list for a raspberry smiley.

Obama's acceptance speech was touching. I particularly thought that his use of the 106-year-old black woman standing on line to vote for an African American candidate for president as a way to illustrate the progress, or "perfectability," of our democracy over the last century was very powerful. I'm proud of this country tonight, and I'm glad that Obama seems to understand the weight of his responsibility, as evidenced by the sobriety of this speech.

Obama is not just a brilliant orator, he is - I suspect - just plain brilliant. He's a genius, calm, organized, methodical, diplomatic... All the things we should have in a President every year, let alone after 8 years of Dubya.

I thought his speech was incredibly gracious, and it's very admirable how he spoke of Obama.

That's the tough thing. I don't dislike the guy. I think he's generally a good man who has done a lot for this country. I just don't like the way I thought the country would have gone under his presidency.

Ditto.

not trying to start anything here but the problem wasnt the presidents fault before the election...

For what its worth, I voted Obama.

I need to check on the final totals. I bet a friend $5 Obama would hit 338 (or higher) and an extra $1 if I hit it on the nose. I suspect I won't get that extra dollar. It did hang at 338 for around an hour and a half though! I suppose I should now check and see what's happened.

McCain's giving a great speech.

Especially the part where he touted Palin's future leadership of the Republican Party.

I think that's unlikely. I think the left has done a great job of destroying any chance of that... and she didn't exactly help herself with really, really bad interviews.

The Republicans need to shed the really stupid platform issues of abortion and gay rights and concentrate on their real strengths of smaller government and lower taxes... and actually fucking follow through with it. Obama, the most liberal member of Congress, polled HIGHER than a so-called "conservative" in regards to being able to handle the economy, by using the conservative claim of lowering taxes.

I heard this morning that the Republicans had a 30 year low for voting turnout... once again showing that they never really got behind McCain.

Amen. I'll be happy as hell if I never see another political ad, "interview", or "debate" with her in it. Also, audio clips of palin are right out.

The selection of palin destroyed McCain for me and much of what his candidacy stood for (going against his party, being against extreme social agendas etc). I was really hoping he'd pick somebody moderate, especially on social things obviously.

I hope McCain's out beating the shit out of whatever image maker/policy guru in the Republican basket thought her up. I guess we can't call how it would have turned out if he HAD picked someone moderate though.

McCain lost yesterday with more votes than Bush won with in 2000. Obama won with less than 500k more votes than Bush in 2004 (of course there are still 3 more states to complete counts).

McCain didn't lose because of low GOP turnout, he lost because of the 20 point swing in the independent/moderate vote, active efforts to kill voter suppression, the change in the electoral map, and record democratic turn out.

It did at one point for me... where he got so exasperated with it and telling them to hush that he sounded like a dog dying of congestive heart failure. He did this weird long inhale that just rattled. For whatever reason, that one moment was pretty upsetting to me. These were people who voted FOR him and supported him. The least they could do was let him finish his last campaign speech uninterrupted. It's a decency thing IMO.

Show me again where I stated that McCain lost the election because of low GOP turnout.

It's the insinuation based on misinformation.

Stating that Republicans had a 30 year low in voting turnout doesn't mean that is why McCain lost the election.

The polls tell a different story.

2004

37% Republican, 37% Democrat, 26% Independent

Bush - 57,697,764 republican votes

2008

32% Republican, 39% Democrat, 29% Independent

McCain (so far) 49,433,749 republican votes

There's your dip over four years ... expected. Let's go back to 2000.

2000

35% Republican, 39% Democrat, 27% Independent

Bush - 45915114 republican votes

Conclusion ... you believe everything the crackheads tell you.

8 < 30

Cracked me up considering it was edited well before he made a post. If it took him three fucking minutes to type that ... my suspicions have been well founded.

I think booing would be the least of what would be happening in Chicago and LA if McCain won.

That would depend entirely upon the method of winning. Anything remotely close to 2000, with Obama winning the popular while a few states went through the rolls and started chucking ballots and registrations ... I think riots would be exclusive to LA or Chicago. You'd be in the middle of one as well.

minor details but thats 101%

I pounded it out ... one of them is off. The fact remains that there was a lower republican turn out in 2000 in comparison to 2008. Pretty much negates the claim of the "lowest republican turnout in 30 years".
