I'm interested to see what happens in Georgia. 1,994,990 people voted early in Georgia. 3,301,875 total voted in Georgia's presidential race in 2004.
Something like 35% of the early voters were African American, whereas it was only 20% in 2004.

I will say while I did see a lot more of black kids on the trail today.. like 20 as opposed to the normal say none.
At the polls I did not see one person that was not Caucasian out of about 150 that were currently voting.

I did my part before I have to go in for judging this afternoon.
Granted this is IL, but there were lines as early as 3am in Champaign county. In two districts that crossed "economic" barriers, black and hispanic voters probably outnumbered white voters 5-1. In the college and Savoy districts, the apparently under 40 crowd outnumbered the "I'm going to die in a minute" crowd at least 3-1.

QFT. Chinatown doesn't even have Chinese people.
It was pretty diverse down at my polling station in Alexandria. I got there a a around 7:35 and it took me a little over an hour to make it through the line. People who were leaving when I got there said they waited two hours. Suckers.
I went to vote before work but the line was forever long even here in the burbs so I left and decided I'd go back and wait it out after work.
My mom went to her polling station at 6am when it opened and still had to wait an hour.

Ya -- I just left work for about 20 minutes (around 10am). Took me 5 minutes to walk to the poll, 10 minutes to vote, and 5 minutes to walk back to work.
I asked the poll workers if it had been this slow all morning and they all told horror stories of the morning. I guess it was crazy from 7-9:30.
I posted in the other thread about how I got screwed by the electronic voting system in Maryland. Any of you guys ever had that happen?
Another thing, there were like 20 voting booths and everyone in Baltimore was using three of them while 17 jackass's literally spent a half hour reading the ballot. Who are these people that dont know what they are voting for until they get to that spot?

I walked 1 mile to the poll. Took about 10-15 minutes total to vote. Stopped outside to talk to some of the police and firefighters I knew and then walked back bought a 4 pack of tall boys on the way and all is good.
Was really simple except these crappy sketcher shoes are killing my feet.

I got back from voting an hour or so ago - took the day off to be a nerd and watch coverage.
Convinced my roomie and her boyfriend to go vote for the first time ever, so I've done my civic duty.
The booths were all full, but there wasn't really a line. I vote in the most minority rich area of Iowa City (there must be at least 10!), but I only saw one while voting.
All in all, no issues, got my pin, and am now camped out in front of the TV.
Edited to add: Every freaking commercial on TV today is a campaign ad. Grrr.

And yet, I've made glial folds as an equal and opposite reaction to the amount of solicitations that've been cockchoked down my fucking politically-gangraped throat. The worst has been watching Jeapordy! The best part about this, is now there will be more beer commercials.
Edited to Add: Although, when Jeapordy! airs, they'll probably just bring back the Active On commercials. Still: A lot more eventful and less painful than the giant turd of a solicitation this country has become. I see campaign ads in my sleep.

That's it? Man, it sure seemed like at LEAST 75% when I went a couple of weeks ago. Then again I live in Atlanta, not in some rural backwoods area. Although i've been to more rural areas (way) outside of Atlanta and it still seems like there's a large black population in those areas, much larger than the population where i'm from, anyway.

I thought that was New Orleans!
Ok, what I'm watching for: Senate races in KY and GA. If the Dems can pull off an upset in either (or force GA to a runoff), they can get to 60 seats in the Senate.
Otherwise, pretty much the battleground states and seeing where they go. Also have a friend running for a judicial position here, so hoping he'll get elected. And then the first Hindu with a serious shot at winning a Congressional seat is up in Minnesota's 3rd district, so hoping he'll win. (I maxed out to him. It'd be a big deal if he won.)

God bless Chocolate City, and its Vanilla suburbs!Times have changed. Chocolate city is a reference to any major city with a predominantly black census. Yes, it originated in New Orleans, but the definition has been upgraded since the last "Ebonics" patch.

I agree that the slang can be used that way.
Yes, it originated in New Orleans, but the definition has been upgraded since the last "Ebonics" patch.
I differ on the origination.
I have done a few shows with George Clinton, and several more with Bernie Worrell. I asked Bernie once which city was Chocolate City about, and he told me it was DC.
So if you have a pre-70's use of the term I may change my belief in the origin of the term, otherwise I will continue to believe Bernie.

They're trying to take back Chocolate City. Damn porch monkeys.

I differ on the origination.I meant DC, not New Orleans, but I'm glad you agree because the slang is used that way post-70's.
I have done a few shows with George Clinton, and several more with Bernie Worrell. I asked Bernie once which city was Chocolate City about, and he told me it was DC.That's nice. However, there are several chocolate cities around even though it originated as a nickname reference to DC, the capital CC of sorts.
So if you have a pre-70's use of the term I may change my belief in the origin of the term, otherwise I will continue to believe Bernie.I wasn't around pre-70's, but I've also never had to ask anyone to define the term for me either. My only point being that there is no one chocolate city anymore, and for quite some time.

Then you can see why I disagreed with the origin of the phrase.
I know that Mayor Nagin re-popularized the phrase post-Katrina, but the initial usage was for DC.

The Democrats have a fair chance (~30%) of winning the GA senate seat today, but if it goes to a runoff, then the Republicans will win the runoff for sure. That's because the Democrats won't have the large turnout that Obama is generating today.

I know that Mayor Nagin re-popularized the phrase post-Katrina, but the initial usage was for DC.Maybe Nagin re-popularized it for you, but it's been heavily used in various circles since as far back as I can remember. Again, I'm just saying that the term has been around for a while and has evolved over time.
There's nothing wrong with sticking to the pre-70's definition though; I personally use it to refer to more than one city.

No, she doesn't, well she does and she doesn't.
She appoints someone to fill in and then there's a special election.
In a nutshell, she has to appoint a temp that will sit for no longer than three months ... and has to call for an election in that time.
Whoever she appoints will be short lived to the position ... unless they're also a candidate in the new election.
