I heard about this the other day on Marketplace, and hadn't seen it mentioned:

(the whole site (http://www.maplight.org) is pretty interesting)

Some interesting and disturbing findings on both 'sides of the aisle'. For some legislators, it's just disgusting how their fundraising is distributed. Here's Rep Fortney Stark, D-CA:
http://www.maplight.org/map/us/legislator/476/geography

99.6% of his campaign contributions came from outside his district, 95% from outside the state. (If you look at the map, you'll see most of it is from around DC. Hi, lobbyists, corporations, special interest groups!)

Nothing else to add, really... just thought folks might be interested.

Looking at the data, it doesn't appear that the RNC or DNC are specifically listed -- they break down organizations donating and what sectors they're from. It's possible that the RNC / DNC donations are included, but I didn't see it.

It would be interesting if you could only take campaign funds from someone you're over... IE president -- all 50 states, senators -- their own state only, etc further down the line.

That's a pretty good idea, but I have a hard time seeing that getting passed. Mainly because all the people approving it would be taking cuts the next time they are up for re-election.

Yea, thats like having the same expectation of our Congressman voting to self-impose term limitations.
