Most people know that fruit flies are vital for genetic research. They live, breed and die in a single day, letting you study generations of potential mutations in a matter of months. So Sara Palin is giving a big policy speech where she says she wants to further the fight against autism. And she plans on paying for it by cutting earmarks for silly things like some grant to study fruit flies. The problem is that specific earmark she mentioned actually led to a breakthrough in the study of, of all things, autism.
