Gov. Sarah Palin took questions from reporters who travel with her campaign Thursday for the first time since being tapped as John McCain's running mate.

Reporters were told 20 minutes ahead of time that, after a visit to ground zero in lower Manhattan, Palin would make a statement and then there would be an opportunity for questions.

In her first media availability of the campaign, Palin spoke only to a few reporters, not her full press corps.

After her statement, she answered four questions about the war on terrorism, the re-election bids of Alaska's Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, and the bailout legislation in front of Congress.

Hopefully her answers to these critical four questions will assuage any doubts of her being a capable candidate.

Well now my doubts about her are assuaged.

Yep, she could be president. Didn’t you see that photochopped pic of her in an American flag bikini with an automatic weapon?

If you look carefully, you can see McCain behind her with his hand up her ass. He's quite the ventriloquist.

Here I thought it was Biden with a brigade, being forced down in his helicopter in Al'Qaeda territory. At least he knew why McCain cannot use a keyboard. Got to give him that.

Palin on the bailout plan:
"That's why I say I, like every American I'm speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in. Where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it's got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and getting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade -- we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation."

There's a reason she draws so many viewers. It's not a good thing.

I don't see why you are running with the helicopter angle. Biden worded what happened in an accurate manner. There are far worse things you could insult the man on.

Like saying FDR went on TV when he was president in 1929 to talk about the financial problems....

I think that officially dethrones "sniper fire" as the dumbest thing said by a candidate this election season.

How does one make such a wrong statement? To forget both who was president, and FDR being one of the heroes of the left you'd think he'd know when he was president, and then to also forget during which time period we got national TV. Whew joe.

I could also bring up Obama visiting "57 states with one more to go", but gaffes (and purposely misleading statements, in the case of Biden's "helicopter story") happen on the campaign trail. With Palin people are hovering like vultures.

Several conservative pundits are calling for Palin to bow down after the ticket. Will she save herself in the upcoming debate Thursday, against a senator with 30 years of national experience? We'll see.

i actually plan on tuning in for nothing more than the comedy that will ensue.

i am honestly hoping that Palin is setting an elaborate trap, but i don't think anyone is that blessed an actor.

I like Gwen Ifill. I know she is an admitted Democrat, but she has always been very fair in her interviews and debates. I don't see her going for a "gotcha" moment. I have even stated before that I believe she would make a great host for Meet the Press.

I have little doubt that Biden could rip Palin a new one in a debate. The questions come as to how hard he does it, and if Palin is able to respond in a manner that most voters can understand. If Biden gets long winded, makes one of his gaffes or comes off as "mean" to Palin it will play to the independent woman and Hillary voters.

If they let Palin speak like she normally would, and let her be truthful, she should do fine. If her handlers have her try to be "perfect", or attempt to have her retain to much information, it could be a disaster. A simple "I don't know" to a question she is not knowledgeable about would get play on MSDNC (and play to the Dem base), but would be better then some bumbling answer that is just incorrect.

Expectations are high that Palin will fail, and that Biden will win big. That puts the pressure on both of them.
