How did computer hackers break into Palin's Yahoo e-mail account? All I can think is that they guessed the password. Those e-mail accounts lock if you guess the wrong password too many times, or so I've been told.

The people who broke into her e-mail account, which is a crime, leaked copies of some of her e-mails. Gawker posted some of them online (http://gawker.com/5051334/palin-emails-reveal-press-hate). (Warning - Don't click on the link if you don't want to endorse this gross invasion of her privacy.) It's nice to see that she has a strong concern for "LIFE," which she puts in all caps.

Also, someone apparently broke into her voice mail and posted this voice mail (http://www.236.com/blog/w/michael_weingartner_and_lee_camp/mccains_voice_mail_to_palin_le_8644.php) left for her by John McCain.

They could have figured out the answers to her "forgot password" questions too. Sometimes it's as easy as a zip code and the mothers maiden name. Palin's mom's name should be easy to figure out.

Doesn't really look like there were any official state e-mails posted on the website. Look like personal/party ones to me.

Certain People say that obtaining access to someone else's e-mail in that fashion would be a felony under this federal law (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode18/usc_sec_18_00001030----000-.html). The relevant parts, according to Certain People, are subparagraph (a)(2)(C), subparagraph (e)(2)(B), and paragraph (c)(2).

I that case, fucking stupid. I'm sure even Alaska could create its own secure e-mail system, if they don't have it already.

in all honesty im surprised she had a public domain email like that simply because of security. Yahoo is probably the most known security system there is. and therefore the most vulnerable. there are security holes in the ability to find these screen names, certain form of what they call "logins" allowing you to guess passwords on an account all day long without locking the name up, other social engineering techniques like cross siting a cookie from palin and using the cookie to get her information for her lost password. the yahoo cookies when decoded have all your information up to the secret question for those that use yahoo email ;-). they can't seem to stop the phishing that constantly goes on there. all in all, bad choice on Palin's part for choosing yahoo

actually..I've never used gmail so i cannot say. i do know however, the main scope of security across the board for public domains is the same. you have the same basic situation with hotmail as yahoo. the added problems with yahoo is the use of their chat rooms and 1 screen name for all uses. which each time you have an add on such as chat rooms along with email it increases your security risk
