View Full Version : S.C. Dem chair: Palin primary qualification is she hasn't had an abortion

South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate "whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”

Palin is an opponent of abortion rights and gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, earlier this year after finding out during her pregnancy that the baby had Down syndrome.

Fowler told my colleague Alex Burns in an interview that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women.

“Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said.

Told of McCain's boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: "Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway."

UPDATE -- Carol Fowler releases a statement of apology: "I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive. I clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on a single issue. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, the war or a woman’s right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single issue. That was the only point I was attempting to make."

That's full of epic win.

I swear.. democrats have got to be the dumbest people on the planet. This election was theirs to take and they continue to blow it.

Carol Fowler who? Exactly.

I believe she is the wife of the former DNC chair, Don Fowler.

Carol Fowler who? Exactly.

She's the "South Carolina Democratic chairwoman"... you know, a Democratic Party insider.

And clearly a stupid bitch.

Christ. I hate agreeing with PB. Especially twice in a day. (The other time was regarding Clyde.)

I'd be very surprised if anyone in this forum knew who this woman was. (Cue the five republicans coming in and claiming they knew her).

I don't doubt that the Democrats stand a huge chance of blowing the election. Their best bet--surprisingly--is to try and get the public to stop focusing on these ridiculous tabloid politics and start focusing on the issues--especially the ones nobody seems to be talking about.

Let's be honest.. if the D was an R and the individual said something about Obama like "The only qualification that guy has is that he's black".. you would most certainly know who he was.

And with the dismal approval ratings of Bush, it's put into the historical context that Obama is doing as poorly as he is. A Democrat should be running away with this election right now.. and much like we saw in the primary.. he's unable to.

LOL this is why I normally don't participate in these threads, it's too ridiculous.

I did not know her until she blew out her fat pie-hole with that stupid stupid statement. Then again I'm not from SC.

That being said. She's a representative of the party that is backing Obama. She really cant say that the act of sticking a microphone in front of her face made her lose all of her wits. Even if the microphone has phallic similarities.

She tried to be witty and get her 15 minutes. Well, she succeeded on one part.

I don't think it's hypocritical. I saw a lot more attacks coming from the RNC speeches than the DNC's convention, and similarly more ads from the McCain campaign about how he isn't Obama, rather than who McCain is.

Who knows. Maybe Obama's so-called "new politics" is bullshit. People claim not to, but actually seem to want negativity. They want the fighting, the same-old same-old partisanship. Either Obama should really--really press to change the context of the election, or simply respond with equal negativity. McCain's campaign, so far, has been getting a relatively free ride.

I know, I know... the ONLY reason Obama is negative is because others force him to be.

Willfully ignorant is no way to go through life pal. Take the blinders off.

He's tried to rise above it, but it hasn't panned out for him.

Is this an indication of how successful his 'change' will be if he's elected? Or will it just not pan out and he'll just be all status quo?

Character is not tested until you're up against it.
