Shoulda picked Jindal.
He's looking extraordinary managing this evacuation. Sure, he wouldn't have been on the stump right now -- but suffice to say that the airtime he's currently getting would have more than made up for that.
I disagree.
If Jindal looks good through this mess in LA, then he'll make a great Presidential candidate in 2012 should Obama win this round.
Who would have thought to have a minority incumbent running against a minority opposition candidate in 2012?

I don't disagree that he'll be a great candidate in 2012. But for the here-and-now, McCain wouldn't need a convention. Just have his VP running the 24/7 dealing effectively with a national emergency.

Jindal's not hot like Palin though.

Unless you find live-action governing during a natural disaster sexy.

ie -- unless you vote base on ability to govern instead of MILF status.

Are you surprised that went over the head of the board republicans?

McCain likes 'em young.

Yes, because thats what exactly happened.
I'll repeat.

Jindal delivers everything Palin does (outsider, young, "historic pick", experience level -- he's actually more experienced) plus he wouldn't be a obvious patronizing pick, he's got the brains and not just a pretty face, and he's getting massive airplay atm.
Hindsight is 20/20. The story of McCain/MILF 2008.

Nice response, Tabor.
Do you have anything to add using characters common to the English language?
Jindal doesn't have a vagina.
Like anything needs to be said after post #2?
Jindal, while doing ao good job thus far, has not seen the end result of his actions during this disaster. What about this so far makes him a better choice than Palin? That he got off the block well? How about letting him finish the race (if I'm going to continue the analagy)?
I think by handicapping him with McCain during an election that is going to be cunthair close with the edge going to Obama you'll simply interfere with the good things he should be focusing on IF he were to decide to make a run in 2012 (and IF McCain doesnt win and is the presumptive GOP incumbent).
Think about it.
Dont blow your wad this early and think about moves yet to come. Consider this a big game of chess. 3 moves ahead and all.

So they sacrificed Palin's political career in its infancy to protect Jindal?
I guess what my point is is that Jindal is primed for a Guilliani-esque leadership spotlight. If he was on the ticket, and pulls off a safe evacuation and provides strong central leadership throughout the aftermath -- McCain would win in a landslide.
Women make good sacrifices.

Did Jindal end up vetoing that legislator pay raise bill from a month or two ago? I stopped paying attention.

Yeah. He did. I think the whole thing muddied his chances.
Being a VP nom on the losing ticket isn't a loser for someone like Palin anyway.

Granted she's not likely to fuck around (literally) and implode like Edwards -- but look at how seriously people take Edwards these days.
She would have been better off being a relative unknown in Alaska for another 4 years at least.

Does Jindal talk with an accent?
If so, that's enough reason for any GOP strategists to not have him on the ticket.

I have to admit it's a little disconcerting that after all that prayer for rain on Obama's speech, it's the Republican who are getting rained out.
There might be a slight silver lining in the approaching storm. People in Minneapolis were worried about certain kinds of crime (http://www.denverpost.com/politics/ci_10092947) surrounding the Republican convention. We can only hope that with fewer events at the convention, there will be less of that kind of crime.
Also, the hurricane may stop the homosexual businesses in Minneapolis (http://kstp.com/article/stories/S560190.shtml?cat=1) that were hoping to cash in. Not everybody knows that Minneapolis is a homosexual hot spot. They even have to polic public bathrooms at the airport to keep homosexuals from having sex in there.
What do hurricanes and homosexuals have in common?

Jindal would also have been a good pick. But Palin still is as well.
I also think, perhaps, Jindal didn't want it, I got the sense all the demurring he did when asked by pundits was more truthful than what most pols do.

I agree on both points -- for different reasons. I love the Palin pick. Give it two weeks to sink in and watch Obama/Biden begin to hammer McCain/MILF in the polls.
I'm already designing the invitations to our Obama inauguration party.

On a more serious note - I'm currently a McCain supporter and not very likely to move off of that, but I need to see a heck of a lot out of Palin before I can give McCain any kind of credit for the pick. It stinks of tokenism right now, and her first few speeches (granted, I've only heard highlights) have done little to convince me otherwise.
I don't buy that she was brought in to sure up the far right - it's not as if they're going to jump ship to the Democratic platform - at worst, they stay home. I'm certain that the key battleground states will be sure to put some hotbutton social issue on the ballot that'll be enough to get the far right and far left to the polls. I really think her appearances thus far have been far more patronizing than some tongue-in-cheek Biden comment that's already being decried as sexism. I honestly think that she can win people over if she gets over the "I have a vag" platform and just focuses on being a candidate for VP, but we'll see.
