I think the Palin pick is incredibly savvy in re: to the disgruntled Hillary voters who apparently have no sense, and in conjunction with her youth, good looks, "outsider status", will far outweigh the lack of experience issue which isn't really relevant in the VP pick (after all, Dan Quayle was VP), and the readiness to step in issue, which most voters will never seriously consider as possible.

She'll get crushed in the VP debates, but as someone mentioned somewhere else, if Biden does it too thoroughly, it'll look like he's picking on a poor "hockey mom" (words she used to describe herself today). She's a former union member, her husband still is, and he's a commercial fisherman, and her eldest son is in Iraq. She reigns the social conservatives back to the party, and solidifies the base.

It's not looking good, imo. Maybe I'm just justifying why I want to move to France...it'd be nice, huh?

I wanted Romney.. but I think this pick was very good for the ticket. It brings to the forefront Obama's inexperience (He's already made mention of her lack of experience) and like you said, brings back the conservatives as well as the PUMAs. Plus she's pretty hot.

It's just another example of the judgement of the Candidates imo. Obama made a very, very lackluster pick that ruined his platform of "Hope and Change" (I love the part where in his speech, Obama made some crack about how McCain had been in the Washington Politics for 26 years... oops?) where McCain made a very good pick to help his ticket.

I look forward to the polls starting Monday to see how this pick erased the traditional bump out of the Convention.

Both of your statements quoted above are wrong. Opinion polls will settle down about a week after the end of the Republican convention. After that, the election will remain close. There's no reason to expect otherwise.

Palin will do just fine in the debates. Because of the high expectations for Biden and low expectations for Palin, she might even be viewed as the winner. But it won't make any difference. Just ask Michael Dukakis. Lloyd Bentsen, Dukakis' running mate, wiped the floor with Dan Quayle, but it did little to help Dukakis. To paraphrase the late Mr. Bentsen, Palin is no Dan Quayle. She's better than Quayle. The election outcome will be based on public perception of the two presidential candidates.

As someone who only visits maybe half the politics threads I can tell you that I've seen maybe 5 posts by Mabus, he's certainly not prolific. If you look back to when TheE was posting hardcore you had him and Backlash firing away and just one PB on the conservative side.


I guess my point is that there's more vitriolic conservative posters being prolific right now, but PB is the only real constant, others come and go. That's why this board felt hollow when Backlash was on (imposed) vacation. When He-Man killed Skeletor the credits rolled. Star Wars ended (sort of) when Darth Vader died, because there was no need for Luke anymore.

First, I'm sorry, but I don't really recall posting all that many original threads, simply responding to bullshit posts about how John Kerry was a coward, etc, etc. As it turns out, I was right, it was a fucking hatchet job which the conservatives claimed was gospel truth. Now, maybe I'm mistaken about the volume of threads I used to post, but hell, it was FOUR YEARS AGO.

Second, Backlash was certainly not a regular poster here at that time. At all. Unless he was under some handle I don't remember. I was alone on my side, unless you count Latrin's sometime Christian socialism.

Third, you forget conservative posters like Tamral, Atlanteax, etc, and posters who were, in general, more right leaning, like SpunGirl. There were some other left leaning posters, like HarmNone.
