In the VP poll in another thread I voted that it would be Hutchinson because I thought (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=35332) Romney was out and because I thought McCain has strongly been courting the woman vote. I thought it could not possibly be Palin because she's got some ethical problems (http://www.adn.com/monegan/story/492964.html) in Alaska regarding her sister's divorce from an Alaska trooper and pressure from her office to fire the trooper. Palin is not as good a speaker as Romney, but she's a lot smarter than Hutchinson.

At least it wasn't Romney. That's all I can say.

I agree. This pick, in my opinion, does a lot to counter some of the typical criticisms of McCain made by the Democrats. It makes the claim that the Republican Party is a party of stodgy old men much less plausible. Likewise, it counters, to some degree, the claim that McCain is "McSame" and just another term of George W. Bush, as well as the idea that "change" is solely the theme of the Obama campaign -- Palin would be the first female Vice President, if McCain is elected (certainly a change), and represents a gesture by the Republican Party toward equality between men and women, all of which is not to mention the fact that Palin herself is apparently a different kind of Republican (though my only evidence for this is that I constantly see her touted as a "reformer"). She's also pro-life, which will probably ease the fears of some previously concerned Republicans, and the fact that she's female just may help to get McCain some of those disillusioned Hillary supporters. Finally, the pick is such a surprise that it turns media attention away from the DNC and back to McCain. Pretty smart, I think.

It's cool. Win.

I'm surprised the current scandal survived the vet. And if Ted Stevens gets convicted...that's not going to look good at all.

Except it was people like Ted Stevens she attacked and beat in the primary that allowed her to win the nomination.

yeah, I don't think the Alaska corruption scandals are going to affect her in any way, if anything, the other scandal about her ex-brother-in-law is the thing that might (but doubtful) harm her.
I agree with E, lets go ski in hell.
They won't affect her in anyway. Focusing on Ted Stevens will just highlight how she is different, and the other thing is a nonissue that was merely drummed up.

Don't confuse them with actual experience standing against political corruption when they are so used to just rhetoric about fighting corruption from a Chicago politician.

I am a republican, but it seems like a move just to get attention.
Sure voters don't have to feel bad for voting republican and not voting for the first black president....they can now vote for the first female VP! WOOHOO!
If something were to happen to McCain at 72, I don't think I am comfortable with Palin as my next in line president
Well, you know, if you wanna play the if game... What happens if democrats hold the whitehouse and filibuster proof margins in both houses? OBama rubberstamping ever piece of far left legislation pelosi and company put forth.
If... John McCain died, and that is a big if, Sarah Palin would be president, after having served some time, hopefully, as VP, and would be able to pick a VP then, and undoubtedly she'd pick a Romney or someone like him.

Obviously we'd become a communist nation, hopefully get a summer Olympics soon, and forge passports for 13 yr old gymnasts.

So long as I don't have to sit through a softball game again.
I went to one in Atlanta (actually Georgia) -- it was terrible. Around hour 4 they started each inning with a runner on second. Bunt, sac fly, win -- and they failed at that for a few innings!
