Nearly half say they're hearing too much about him, poll says (http://batonrouge.cox.net/cci/newsnational/national?_mode=view&_state=maximized&view=article&id=D92CRKQG0&_action=validatearticle)
WASHINGTON (Associated Press) -- Barack Obama may be the fresh face in this year's presidential election, but nearly half say they're already tired of hearing about him, a poll says.
With Election Day still three months away, 48 percent said they're hearing too much about the Democratic candidate, according to a poll released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. Just 26 percent said the same about his Republican rival, John McCain.
Obama, the 47-year-old Illinois senator who would become the first black president, has dominated political news coverage much of the year. According to an ongoing Pew study, Obama has appeared in more news stories this year and more people say they have heard more about him than McCain, the longtime Arizona senator who also ran for president in 2000.
Two-thirds of Republicans and about half of independents said they've heard too much about Obama, as did a third of Democrats, a significant number.
At the same time, nearly four in 10 said they've been hearing too little about McCain _ about four times the number who said so about Obama. About half of Republicans, four in 10 independents and even a quarter of Democrats said they've not heard enough about the GOP candidate.
The poll was conducted from Aug. 1-4 and involved telephone interviews with 1,004 adults. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Nah. He has an easier time soaking up the rays without risk of injury than the other guy.

He's overexposed in the fact that everyone's paying attention to Obama's douchebaggery when he commits it and all previous douchebaggery whereas not many people are paying attention to McCain's douchebaggery when he commits it and all previous douchebaggery.
I'm generally talking about the media, not the internet. The internet is doing a far, far better job than the televised media.

I don't think he's overexposed.
McCain is under-exposed, though.

I think Obama gets so much attention because:
1) The people are extremely tired of the neocon "same old, same old" policies of George Bush, some of which McCain parrots, and Obama represents a dramatic shift away from that
2) He's the first major black contender for President
3) He's very young, and the first generation of kids that went through their teens with the Internet are getting involved in politics--he appeals to them.
I don't know if Obama is so much "over" exposed as McCain is "under" exposed, though.

I think the entire election is overexposed.
And we still have three months to go...

I love the excuse that McCain is under exposed. Who the fuck doesn't know about McCain after what.. 25+ years in the public eye?
Obama on the other hand is 'new' to the national political scene. The more he is exposed though, the more people begin to question.. which is a good thing.

Apparently quite a few.
A majority of the US couldn't give two fucks about politics and don't keep up except to figure out who's running against who for President.
Daniel Inouye has been a Senator for 45 years and most people (myself included) really have no clue who the hell *he* is. So just because McCain has been in politics for a while doesn't mean he's been highly visible that whole time or was ever really a household name.

Do some of your own digging and maybe stop relying on the liberal media to spoon feed you?
Just a thought.
PS - Daniel Inouye didn't run for President in 2000 or 2004, did he?

The point he was making is that being in the senate for 25 years doesn't automatically make you well known. Neither does running, and losing, a campaign nomination.
Do you think the majority of Americans know much about Dennis Kucinich, despite being a representative in the house and running for the nomination? I'd wager that the majority of people--including the people on this very forum--have no idea who their representatives in the house are, very few could name both their senators, and virtually none could name any state senators.
Most people simply don't follow politics--even politics that directly impact them.

1) Narcissiia is a female
2) You would have to be blissfully ignorant to not be somewhat familiar with John McCain. Almost to a point of purposely sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "LALALALALA" everytime his name came up.

Um, then why is he tied with McCain?

"Liberal Media": Any news source that doesn't share PB's political beliefs.
LOL, Thanks for the advice. Really.
And no, Inouye didn't run for President. Running for President doesn't make anyone an automatic household name. Ask the average American for the names of every person who made a bid and then ran for President during the primaries in 1980 and you'll get a lot of people who flat couldn't tell you, even if they actually voted.
I'm sure a lot of people have HEARD of the name John McCain, but I think the point is that a lot of people don't know really know who the fuck he is. He's had FAR less coverage than Obama this election, and so it's not a huge surprise that people know less about him. Most people don't retain all of the information about all past candidates from all past elections for possible use at a later date, either.. as I said, a good chunk of Americans are simply not political junkies.
And flat out, people are polling as wanting to know more about McCain.. what exactly is your problem here PB? "NO DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT HIM, THEY SHOULD ALREADY KNOW ALL THAT THEY NEED TO, IF THEY DONT THEY ARE FUCKING RETARDS" is a really shitty political strategy for winning an election.
Unfortunately so many Americans are indeed clueless on politics.
It is why Democrats still manage to get elected.
Can I get a rim shot?
Seriously though, my wife used to think Republicans were the big government party that liked to tax, spend, regulate, and otherwise needle itself into your life as much as possible. Until she met me, and she realized that despite having had voted for democrats in the past, she actually had conservative views.

Ironic, since the Republicans are now many of those qualities.
Did I miss where Obama took his clothes off?

You guys are a part of the Obama overexposure. Stop making 50 threads a day (OMG HYPERBOLE ALERT) about Obama, and make some about McCain. Or are you that genuinely disinterested in him?
