View Full Version : PBS Lies About the Bible

We should insist that Congress stop funding PBS. PBS has a new series that makes up lies about the Bible and then broadcasts those lies to children.

Among highlights of "The Bible's Buried Secrets":

* The Old Testament was written in the sixth century BC and hundreds of authors contributed.
* Abraham, Sarah and their offspring didn't exist.
* There is no archaeological evidence of the Exodus.
* Monotheism was a process that took hundreds of years.
* The Israelites were actually Canaanites.
* The Israelites believed that God had a wife.

You can sign a petition at the website of the American Family Association (https://secure.afa.net/afa/activism/signpetition.asp?id=1780) to urge Congress to stop funding this stuff.

John McCain is a longtime opponent of educational teevee. Although I do not know Obama's position, I think it's pretty safe to guess that he's in favor of funding PBS.

You can believe the mystical man in the sky wrote a magic book that shows you how to get to NeverNever Land all you want; I'd be far more scared if PBS tried to tell me it was true.

I <3 The God Delusion.

It goes over most of the above.

I'm a Christian myself, surprise surprise.

But just because PBS wants to exercise their right to free speech doesn't mean that the state should suddenly stop funding them. To do so would imply a non-separation of church and state. And, quite frankly, I'd rather people see both sides of the argument and decide for themselves what they want to believe.

Also, who the hell watches PBS to begin with? :P

It's actually a really great book. I enjoyed it.

I should probably read it myself.

Clyder, a lie is generally an intentional untruth about a verifiable set of facts or conclusions.

I think it's safe to say that very little in the bible has been verified.

I understand where you are coming from though. This thread just reflects the fear that you feel when someone dares challenge your beliefs. There is no shame in being afraid.

Dear ClydeR,
The Bible is a lie. God isn't real.

Looks like its more about the Torah than the Bible... unless you left something out.

What in particular strikes you as a lie?

Fundamental christians are some of the most fearful people on earth. Panic sets in whenever anyone presents a contradiction to the house of cards they call "reality". It's funny shit.

The Torah is still the first five books of the Bible, and very, very important to it.

Those aren't Fundamental Christians, those are idiots. They shouldn't be freaking out about someone else challenging their beliefs when tons of people have been doing it for thousands of years. The Bible even says they'll do it.

If this is directed at me, well:

I don't believe in God, or in the 40-day long worldwide flood, or that a geriatric man built a 3 story tall arc, managed to capture a mating pair of every creature on the planet, managed to keep them alive all together on said boat. I do not believe that a man parted the Red Sea to save the Israelites. I do not believe that there was a Jesus that returned from the dead, or that a meteor swarm destroyed Sodom, or that Lot's wife was turned into a pillar or salt for looking back.

I could go on, but I think you get the hint.

If you (general you) believe in the Bible, then more power to you. I simply don't.

In either case, it was more meant to be funny, since I disbelieve that ClydeR is a real person.

Yeah, probably not. Does he even play Gemstone?

I honestly suspect he might be Hoodtralfeck/Iekid.

I've only ever seen him start political-type threads. Never respond. Never post.

If he doesn't play GS, or never has, we should kick him out.

This is the Gemstone PLAYERS CORNER.

But if we ban him now, he'll never get 400 posts, and he's at 399 now!

IT WOULD BE AGONIZING.

He responds sometimes. But unlike some people (see sig), he doesn't seem to feel the need to respond to every single sling and arrow. Or that posting last means he's top bitch.

You have to be a moron to not think that the old testament is all allegory rather than a literal recounting of history. Though... I have seen shows on The Discovery Channel that show there is evidence of Exodus -- I would question if the producers aren't anti-semetic.

But ya... if you think the earth was literally created in 7 days, and the entire earth literally flooded, and that god literally destroyed sodom and grimorah (sp?) and literally turned what's his face's wife into a pillar of salt, and literally adam and eve were thrown out of paradise for eating an apple. Those are obviously allegories, passed down through a verbal tradition long before being written, meaning to teach lessons on how to live a good life. They have about as much veracity as the classical myths of Olympus.

You'd also have to be dense to refuse to believe revisionist history hasn't altered the new testament to the point where it'd probably be unrecognizable to people alive at the time.

...

Dear ClydeRetard;

Please look up "oral tradition" ... and no, it's not the same game you and your father played.

Also, who the hell watches PBS to begin with? :P

I do ... and if this program gets such a big rise out of the nutjob right ... I'm sending them more money.
