View Full Version : Obama gets my vote!

Yes, I will be voting. I would like to start out and say I am neither Republican or Democrat. Towards the end of the primaries I was pretty sure I was going to vote for McCain. Infact, I've always liked McCain and I actually shared a lot of the same values as him. However, now after reading Obama's books "The Audacity of Hope", and "Dreams of my Father"... I'm sold.
Maybe he is the Anti-Christ, maybe he is too good to be true. Either way, I found him very straightforward, and I do now believe he is the type of man America needs as a leader, to continue to be a great place and possibly an even better place to live in the 21st Century.
I am a businessman. Now if anything, one principle holds true in business. "A bad reputation is bad for business". McCain is seen as a proxy for president Bush throughout the world. Think of all the possible money American companies are losing when they want to do business with another country, but lose the contract because of dislike of our government (And it does happen). If anything, the rest of the world just will like Obama better. Making our trade and business better with other countries, ultimately stimulating and making our economy better.
That is just my theory
but a bad rep around the world is bad for American business

Any proof that our economy is hurting because of lost contracts that result out of a disdain for the president?

If anything the government made money when we sold all those WMD's to Iraq and AlQaeda.

Actually, I think he's saying he doesn't want to be in the SDC, so that must be why Seany Digital is just messing around and not serious.

That McCain is seen as a proxy for bush is not real, it is just marketing. 18 months ago McCain was a democrats favorite republican, often critical of the president. Now suddenly he is a clone? That isn't real.
And your whole contract business thing is bullshit. A real businessman does not let personality dictate his business. Furthermore, globally, Bush is liked, and so would be McCain, on economic terms. Bush and McCain are both big proponents of Free Trade, Obama is largely against it (or atleast, he panders that way). Free trade is probably just about the most important issue for a foreign businessman wanting to do business in the US.
Sure, university students in Europe probably hate Bush, but don't confuse that opinion with what world leaders and international businesses want out of US economic policy.

If you truly hate both and want to make a point, either pick a third party candidate. Not voting is kind of worthless.
To over-simplify:
There are 10 people in the US.
3 vote for Obama, 3 vote for McCain, 4 don't vote. Since results are reported only on actual votes, Obama 50%, McCain 50%.
3 vote for Obama, 3 vote for McCain, 3 don't vote, 1 votes for Ron Paul (write in). Results = Obama 43%, McCain 43%, Ron Paul 14%.
PB got it.

okay phew you had me scared there for a moment

No. I'm not voting anymore because Ron Paul isn't around anymore ):
Which means that if you don't vote at all, you complicity allowed whoever wins to become president. Write MICKEY MOUSE if you want but "not voting" is only proof of one thing:
You're a total fucking retard.

Yeeeeo:
Do you have a reason not to?
I'm biased since 50% of my family comes from parts of the world where not voting will get you thrown in a prison cell -- In the most first world of South American countries at that. If you have a serious reason not to, or a not-so-serious reason, but at least some reason, then I guess it's more O.K. than not.
For example, if you don't vote just to piss off people on their high political horse and boast about it on an Internet forum, in order to make ParkBandit claim why he's happy about not being you, then I give you full permission to exercise your right not to vote.
Otherwise, it really shouldn't be viewed as a luxury, imho. It is the most significant offerings that the people have been blessed with during our times.

Just look at history and look what people did to earn the right to vote. Not voting is just a slap in the face to some people. So don't expect people to "get over it." You disgrace what many died fighting for.

Stop eating the crazy fruit:
1) McCain intends to follow or further many of Bush's policies - ergo, he's a Bush proxy.
2) The globe dislikes Bush and his insistence on going it alone in the Middle East despite UN disapproval, and dislikes him even more for then asking for help in something they never supported. In one specific example, support for Bush essentially lost the previously popular British PM, Tony Blair, his reputation in the UK. You can browse http://www.angus-reid.com/issue/C14/ for other surveys of Bush's global popularity. On a more anecdotal note, I had an Englishman ask me two weeks ago if I disliked Bush as much as he did. Oh, and your average European is more informed about American politics than your average American.
3) On a third note, "Free Trade" isn't free and seriously disadvantages many weaker countries - the dimwitted just vote for it anyway because they wonder how "Free Trade!" can be bad.
4) "Real businessmen" know that good personal connections are invaluable - personality definitely dictates business.

On another note, since Ismurii doesn't want to vote, she must be okay with me telling her that she doesn't have control over her own body and that she's going to be paying a heck of a lot more in taxes next year.

I said that the common man's opinion doesn't matter, and you refute me by quoting the common man's opinion?
Ya, the world's universities are overflowing with vocal students who hate Bush and US foreign policy. Yes, proud politicians in other countries hate playing second fiddle to us.
None of this changes the fact that economically, the developing world sucks at the tit of the US economy. A protectionist president like Obama is a threat to that. Protectionism == bad. Read up on history (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot-Hawley_Tariff_Act).
Now, considering how jobs and wages have grown in Mexico (and the US) since Nafta, and everywhere else we've made free trade agreements, you'll have to provide a source for why you think free trade is bad. Foreign countries get US investment, better jobs, and more opportunities. Domestic companies get a market to sell their goods in without tariffs. The world doesn't have a bunch of direct democracies, you may think commoners of the world "vote for free trade" because they think it sounds good, but they don't actually vote on it. Their leaders do, leaders who are educated on the topic.

Yea.. it's like you both share the single brain.
1) McCain = Bush
2) World hates Bush
3) Free Trade Bad!
4) Wall Street LOVES Obama
Fantastic. I just wished they were based on facts instead of campaign rhetoric.
