View Full Version : Heinz Pulls Obscene Commercial

Responding to an overwhelming number of complaints and threats of a boycott, the Heinz company stopped airing an obscene commercial in England that showed two men kissing. The issue came to prominence after Bill O'Reilly had a segment about it on his program.
Heinz did not show the commercial in the U.S. I'm not sure if our laws prohibit such commercials in this country, but if they don't they should, especially during primetime hours.
This incident would be a good opportunity for the two presidential candidates to state their positions on the issue of decency in advertising.
An article about the ad is at the following link. Be warned that the article also contains a video of the commercial, which many people would find offensive.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in a post complaining about obscenity with an RIP for George Carlin affixed to the end?

Because OMFG two men kissed, so this would confuse children!
Of course it would only confuse the children that are taught by parents who tell them that there's something wrong with homosexuality. Every other normal child won't even bat an eyelash at the ad.

200 complaints is hardly 'overwhelming.'
Wait til you see the new Heinz ketchup bottles with the laser beam attachments.

It's not indecent or obscenity. At least, not by the American rule of law.

Catholics are against homosexuals.
But, I can't think of anyone who has less abortions than homosexuals! "

They were just trying to be funny.. replacing the typical "mother" role with a "New York Chef" (to advertise New York Deli Mayo). I don't see how it's offensive at all.. the kids even call him mom.

ClydeR, you really want the government to decide what you can watch on television?
Seriously?

Yea, I laughed. Too bad, this is actually a good commerical in the sea of marketing reps trying their hand on what they think is funny. The world needs to chill the fuck out over gay relations on TV. People are gay, get the fuck over it.

I don't want to see anyone swapping spit in a commercial. That said, I thought the commercial was cool, and they weren't swapping spit, it was a kiss goodbye. Better than most commercials.

That one was good. For the record, that smarmy piece of shit in the Apple ads made me buy a Lenovo...
I don't understand the push for more censorship. I feel free speech is being trampled on from both sides of the political spectrum. The reaction to it has been... well... indifferent. It's kind of sad.
From the left, we have the all too convenient "hate speech," which can be pretty much anything someone doesn't like. Hurt feelings will soon be all it takes for a hate crime to have been committed. Nothing brings about tolerance and equality for all like fear of legal action and suppression of free speech.
Then on the other side, we have ClydeR, who thinks that a black girl's titty popping out during the super bowl will bring on the apocalypse.
We live in weird times...

Grats on being too stupid to understand an advert.
I heard the shit about this on the radio today and now, having seen the ad, I feel I must say the following:
a) What a load of bollocks.
b) It was a witty advert.
c) It's a shame so many people have shit for brains.
d) Who fucking cares.
e) Heinz are a bunch of spineless fucks.
f) that just about covers it.

Vision and Values
VISION
Our VISION, quite simply, is to be "THE WORLD'S PREMIER FOOD COMPANY, OFFERING NUTRITIOUS, SUPERIOR TASTING FOODS TO PEOPLE EVERYWHERE." Being the premier food company does not mean being the biggest but it does mean being the best in terms of consumer value, customer service, employee talent, and consistent and predictable growth. We are well on our way to realizing this Vision but there is more we must do to fully achieve it.
VALUES
Our vision will be supported by our VALUES, which define to the world and ourselves who we are and what we stand for. Heinz has a proud tradition of Pure Foods, Quality and Good Stewardship. To help you better understand these values, we are building on the articulation crafted by Heinz Europe, which has successfully incorporated these and other important values under the acronym of PREMIER.
PREMIER VALUES:
* Passion . . . to be passionate about winning and about our brands, products and people, thereby delivering superior value to our shareholders.
* Risk Tolerance . . . to create a culture where entrepreneurship and prudent risk taking are encouraged and rewarded.
* Excellence . . . to be the best in quality and in everything we do.
* Motivation . . . to celebrate success, recognizing and rewarding the achievements of individuals and teams.
* Innovation . . . to innovate in everything, from products to processes.
* Empowerment . . . to empower our talented people to take the initiative and to do what's right.
* Respect . . . to act with integrity and respect towards all.
I think they failed on a few of these things.
So much for taking risk and showing respect to everyone.

I wonder what Mabus thought of that?
I thought it was a nice nipple.
I did not believe the "wardrobe malfunction" story. I had no problem with a breast being shown on TV.
I believe the human body is beautiful, and that attempts to shield it from view based on current cultural/religious beliefs may lead to psychological illnesses.
I have no problem with gays at all, and believe that life-long commitments by them should be sanctioned by the state (if the state sanctions non-gay life-long commitments).
I fought against Ohio's gay marriage ban, but we lost. As a heterosexual that believes in our Constitution I cannot see denying property and other rights to a couple just because of sexual orientation.
Thanks for asking.

I just cant believe this guy is serious... I'm about as conservative as they come short of being a bible thumper and i cant take him serious
And do you even know who george carlin was i mean come on
It's all about perspective. I have a hard time taking sst OR ClydeR seriously. Ah, humanity in all its crazy variety.
As far as the commercial... Heinz lost its spine. I'm going to protest by only putting a very small amount of 57 on my steak tonight, damnit.
when have I ever posted anything like this?
You're not silly in the same way; don't worry. That's why I referred to variety.

Seriously? No. ClydeR wants to decide what we watch on TV.
I think Bill O'Reilly is smart, and on most issues I agree with him. I also think he is unfairly maligned as I've seen him attack McCain and Bush, but say nice things about Obama or Hillary (so obviously he is not just a part shill). However, on this he was off base. It wasn't a gay joke, not in the least.

Except that when you have laws like that in some places but not in others, you cause all sorts of confusion and lawsuits like the one in Florida (http://www.miamiherald.com/418/story/582013.html), where two homosexual women who were civil unioned in the state of Washington went to Florida for a vacation. One of the women fell deathly ill and was sent to the hospital in an ambulance. The hospital would not let the other woman see her civil union partner because, as the hospital explained to her, Florida is an an anti-gay state that does not recognize civil unions. The needless lawsuit will now drive up the health care costs of everyone in Miami, when the hospital was just following the law.
We need one uniform law for the whole country that recognizes traditional marriages and only traditional marriages.

Nah... the concept of states rights is more important.
What we need is tort reform so lawsuits like that just get instantly dismissed.
I never thought anything of it when I saw it. I guess only men and women are allowed to kiss on tv now.

But CT, that's not STATES RIGHTS!!
Oh wait, it's in the Constitution? States have to give 'full faith and credit' to rights afforded to ppl by other states? Damn liberal, activist founders!

We need one uniform law for the whole country...We have one. It's called the Constitution. In it there's a full faith clause. This is why we let your retarded ass drive in any state without applying for a license in each one.
What we need is more love-robots.
