SPRINGFIELD – A woman convicted of state truancy laws for her child's poor school attendance received a sentence of two days in the county jail.

I think punishing parents for the sins of the child will do much more to curb bad behavior by children than would punishing the children themselves. State legislatures should consider applying this sort of punishment to other types of child misbehavior.
Two days was not tough enough.

Wow, jail time. That seems a bit harsh to me.

Two days was not tough enough.God knows the many times I've thought your mom needed to be punished.

On a more serious note. I'm okay with this, as long as we can also punish the teachers if the child doesn't perform adequately in school.

The article says she is a single mother of five children. If it was me, I'd totally say "FUCK YES, give me more jail time!"

It's a stupid idea.
They do it in the UK.
People have been jailed for lengthy periods (months) for their child not attending school. Guess what? Children still skip school.

Yup.
And when parents are in jail, they get to truant easier.

Stupidest thing I ever heard of. If I got sent to jail for something my kid did or didn't do, the kid would either be put up for adoption, kicked out on the street or buried quietly.

This just reinforces the idea that the child is not responsible for his actions and makes it worse. So he skips school or doesnt come home at night, What does he care. Nothing is going to happen to him. And he gets to stay home by himself for a few days while his parents are locked up.
Stupid.

I think I'd need to be in jail longer than 2 days if my child being truant led to me having to serve time.
Because once I got out, it would take an act of God to stop me from beating the ever living shit out of said child.

Fucking stupid.
I did however get in trouble with the DCF for my kid having 48 tardies the year before last. IN KINDERGARTEN.
Even 1 minute late counts and 40 of those weren't my fault... fucking car line and the rich retards that use it.
My daughter went thru a phase where she was having issues with her socks causing us being late... DCF actually told me to take her to school without her socks and shoes on and let the teacher deal with it. WTF.
Proud to say this last year only 6 tardies and 4 absences. *between the both of em.

When I was in high school I had a terrible liver infection and was knocked out for basically two months while I was trying to get better. I couldn't even move to feed myself in bed without my head feeling like it was exploding. I tried to go to school a couple times and just the noise of my classmates turned me into a horrible, un-functioning mess and I had to leave halfway through the day.
Even with a doctor's note and despite the fact that I was still maintaining good grades, they tried to make me repeat all of my classes and they fined my dad for my "excessive" tardiness. They told him that my "little headaches" were no excuse for me not showing up to class. Even more retarded, on finals day for the first semester I went to my classes to take the tests (I was still incredibly ill), my last final was in calculus which I was dropping (because I sucked at math), so I told my dad it was okay to arrange my doctor's visit to cut into that final because I wasn't going to take it. He showed up to pick me up and they refused to release me to him-- he told them he was going to go directly to my class to come get me if they didn't call me down to the office and my doctor had to actually call the school and tell them to let me out of class.
At the end of the year I had to go in front of the school board with a ton of doctor's notes and debate with them about why I shouldn't have to repeat classes that I got A's in anyway while I was deathly ill.

You just reminded me of how I bullshitted a midterm exam.... I called the prof telling him I didn't get my results in the mail (was a tv course back then) and I was all freaked out telling him how it's going to fuck me.
Well I never took the exam. I walked in the auditorium signed in and walked out.
Yet with my despair over the phone he "OH here it is.. .you go a C+) AND I even pushed the envelope complaining about the C+ saying it's going to kill my gpa. ...I repeat I never took the midterm.
I love that story and it still strikes me as awesome to this day.
Man that sucks about the liver infection... was it mono/Hep? Or did your eagle beak nose poke a hole in it doing a sit up.
Kidding ... <3 I'm so sorry that you remind me of the hawk guy from he muppets. I've got no room to speak considering I've got a beak of my own.

That is an epic story.
And apparently they still don't know what exactly caused it.. I'm positive though that my nose couldn't have done the damage despite the nasal similarity to Sam Eagle (the muppet) as my tits would get in the way. :(

Yeah, my eyebrows are pretty flat. Though in that picture I'm obviously flattening them more via facial contortion.
I am the first to admit that I have a "unique" schnozz. That's what happens when you get pwnd by a truck to your face when you're three years old.
