Did anyone else get a kick out of this HBO movie?

I watched it this morning. Superb cast and acting. Funny as shit. I liked how they really interwove the reality of what was happening with the news clips.
Laura Dern made Kate Harris hot.

It's a good thing he didn't get the presidency. It would have taken him away from his research. After all, he invented the internet. Just think of all the things he might yet discover.

He didn't say he invented the internet. He said that he helped to bring it about. Which is true, since he was one of the few politicians who supported funding it. Vint Cerf, who literally created the internet (TCP/IP) has defended Gore on this many times.

I agree with you. It has just become one of those accepted cultural myths about a politician, and it is strange that people will not accept the truth.

I'd be the first to admit that my jokes sometimes fall flat. But that's never stopped me from going for the cheap laugh.
Anyway, here's the thing, Gore did say it.
Here is his actual quote: "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
Sure he was in the midst of a live-on-tape, informal interview and, unlike some here, I know that it's very easy to misspeak when under pressure. However, he did say it. Mean it? Obviously not. It was unfortunate phrasing which I'm sure he regrets to this day.
So, although he is due tons of props for his congressional contributions and support over the years (which is what Cerf was pointing out), it doesn't change the fact that he DID say it. So it's fair game for a lame joke from me! Fuck you very much.
Good job proving, once again, your complete and utter lack of even a tiny sense of humor though. Bravo.

It's ok.. since Bush isn't a conservative :)
<insert bush joke here>
Ok, to be truly witty...
I’d love to read Trisket’s bush jokes... but somehow I think they might be a bit dry and stink horribly.

Actually, that's only part of what he said:
"During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."
It's pretty clear he's not saying that he personally effected all those changes, but rather he gave them the support they needed to be successful.
I'm sorry that correcting an intentional misquote you used as a cheap shot means that I don't have a sense of humor.

Not really. He phrased it either so poorly or so ambigously that its gives the appearance he is claiming credit for things he did not actually do.
It wouldn't be the first time he distorted an "inconvienent truth" for his own purposes, either.

Yeah I'm gonna go with 875000 on this one. While Gore may have participated in legislation that made the internet possible, his statement "I took the initiative in creating the internet" gave people to opportunity to mock him.

So, back on topic: watched the movie, made me fighting mad like I knew it would, then deflated me for a day.

Continuing the off-topic discussion of internet creation, I thought much of the work was done at CERN so how could U.S. congressional funding contribute directly to that effort?

C/Valth (admittedly hazy on the details surronding the creation of the www)CERN established the standards, but the network still had to be developed. In this country that required legislation and funding.

No, CERN is where Tim Berners-Lee developed the world wide web (HTTP). This is a common mistake, but WWW != the Internet, not by a long shot. The Web is part of the Internet, but it doesn't come close to encompassing everything that the internet includes.

Poor Backlash Jr. If that really upset you for an entire day, you are probably better off leaving for France today.
