The politics thread has been pretty slow these days. Yesterday, while watching the Lakers v. Spurs, my wife and I both commented on how odd/sad it was that the national opinion of the President provides the opportunity for a company to openly mock the President and considers it a helpful advertising activity.
Here are some examples:

I'm not sure if I have a question to prompt discussion. There has been a market for mocking the President's vocabulary for quite some time -- but building a national advertising campaign around it? I just find it unfortunate.

That guy imitates a lot of people, including Donald Trump. Maybe if the president didn't have such great material for comedians to use, it wouldn't happen. :D

One of the related videos has him mocking Clinton. So at least he's a proponent of nonpartisan mockery.

That it is an effective advertising campaign is what surprises me though. I assume they did extensive testing beforing buying all the time.

Caliendo is one of the BEST impersonators out there.
I have no problem with him putting on the GW. He's good at what he does... and the Prez shouldn't be protected from parody anymore than anyone/anything else.
Still like Frank's Madden in my top 5 of his shit.
I think it's more of a national advertising campaign based around the myth that frank calliendo is funny.

I thought it was illegal to use an impersonator of a famous person in a commercial advertisement. Besides, that ad is disrespectful to the president.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dubya was on the couch laughing along with everyone else. He just doesn't seem like the type to be bothered by something like this, disrespectful of not. I'm not a supporter of his but I've always considered this to be a positive when it comes to him.

What world to you live in where everything you don't like you believe to be illegal? You make me laugh.

My opinion as well. He seems to poke fun at himself almost as much as the liberal hippies do.

You're probably right. Your comment reminds me of the time the President tap danced for the press (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SAevndifwEc) while he was waiting on McCain to arrive so that Bush could endorse McCain.

Well Jackie Kennedy sure didn't let people get away with using impersonators of her in their commercial advertisements. She sued and won (http://personalityrightsdatabase.com/index.php?title=Jacqueline_Kennedy_Onassis_v_Chris tian_Dior). If the Kennedys can do it, surely a Bush can too.

There's a big difference between falsely using someone to look exactly like a person who expressly didn't want to be used for advertising, and some comedian impersonating a celebrity.
Get your head out of your ass. You're bothering the hampster.
