Ferrao:
"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept,"
Full story here (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/11/ferraro.comments/index.html).
By now it's pretty obvious what sort of campaign she's running. An Obama advisor refers to Hillary as a monster and the Clinton camp wants her head. One of the top fund raisers for Clinton suggests that Obama is only in the race because he's black and Clinton does a dance in an effort to explain why she won't distance herself from someone raking in the cash.
Gotta love the double standard.

Ferraro: 'They're attacking me because I'm white'

Anyone want to lay odds on how long it takes and if Clinton cuts and runs from this one?

I've noticed the trend too. That and saying something really nasty, then just apologizing for the comment later. This way you get to blatantly bash someone, but it's all cool because you said, "sorry."

She said she never would've been nominated if she was a man too. Ridiculous. Ideally it'll boost Obama as much as the Bill stuff... but you never can tell. I'm sure he's gonna lose Pennsylvania.
If Obama was a white man he would have been nominated already.

She said she never would've been nominated if she was a man too.
That much is true. Had she been born with nuts instead of ovaries ... no one would have approached her with an offering of the VP side of the ticket. Let's face it, the Dems had nothing to throw at Reagan so they tried a trick play and it bombed. Unfortunately she's projecting her own shortcomings onto Obama while playing ignorant in reference to Clinton.
Here's the truth .... If Hillary's last name wasn't Clinton and her husband wasn't Bill .... well she would have gone down in flames and this would be a race between Edwards and Obama. Without Bill she'd be lucky to have a congressional seat as a state representative.
If Obama was a white man he would have been nominated already.
I find this statement somewhat silly. Hypotheticals always are. Just as silly as the if Senator Clinton were a man. If she were a man she would have never married President Clinton. Unless you want to hypothetically add that gay marriage was accepted in this country when they got married a billion years ago.
If Senator Obama were white, his education would have been seen as handed to him and his community service would be seen as an instrument of politics to get him elected.
Its like saying if Marijuana was legal Ginsburg would have been on the supreme court.
There were a cadre of good white men running. Some with far more experience than Senator Obama and with similar messages. Yet, he is the one people are choosing. Could it be, uhh, what he really says and does?

Riiiight.. because if you are white, everything is simply handed to you.. and if you are a minority, the only way to get it is to fight for it.
I actually agree somewhat with Ferraro. He's won many states (last night included) because he essentially has a large voting block voting for him already. Couple that with an eloquent way of speaking, and an ambiguous message about change and hope.. add a dash of being 'new' to politics, so you can market yourself as an outsider to Washington.. and you have a recipe for success.
I also agree with Obama when he responded that it's not in the playbook to start out with being black and have the name of Barack Obama. He's overcome a huge hurdle to get where he is.
I love how you can't even talk about race, or you are immediately labeled a racist in this country though. It's sad.. and funny at the same time.

Ferraro wins the stupid bitch award.
Seriously. Obama is here because he is black? She qualifies to have the "C" word used before her name.
She is pretty much taking away every good thing Obama is doing and giving it all up to the reason "he's black"
If he was white he'd be right where he is. Most of the educated latte drinking burkenstock (sp???"I don't drink them or wear them.") Are pulled to them because they've actually researched the candidates.
He gives a speech that inspires and puts some people in awe. That isn't to hard to do after listening to George W for 8 years. He doesn't stumble over notes, or read off a TelePrompTer.
His campaign is transparent. It's grass roots. Christ you can go on his site and if you don't find the information you are looking for, you can ask on the blog and have 20 courteous in detail responses inside of 30 minutes.
I think the biggest bitch is why do people even bring up race? It's a fucking slap in the face to imply he's only doing as well as he is doing because he is black.
I can guarantee if we had a white barack Obama he'd be where he is right now.
He's young and fresh.
He's busted ass to get where he is.
He's charismatic as hell.
He isn't Hillary Clinton. (this point cannot be stressed enough.)
he doesn't have 5 tons of baggage.
The "ambiguous message" has gotten way to much mileage. Is he supposed to sit there when giving a stump speech and go through every specific? Would people get fired up listening to that? Most people that puss about him haven't even researched him.
If through his speech he can get people off their fat asses and actually interested enough to do some referencing for themselves rather then just what the tabloid media and shock jocks feed to them, hooray for him.
Yeah he's black wuppee. Give it a fucking rest already Ferraro and Co. The media doesn't hype about all the women voting for HRC just because she is female. Or NOT voting for Obama because he is black.
I don't think Obama would have as much of the black vote as he does if idiots didn't keep making comments like this.
By and far the people voting for obama probably pale in comparison to those voting for hillary because she is female/her last name is clinton/she isn't black/ she'd give McCain a chance.
After all look what having the last name Bush did for Georgy eight years ago. Please don't tell me that didn't play a major roll.
Ferraro from '88 was it????:
And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."
Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.
Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."
The dems in all the white caucus states are voting for Obama because he isn't Hillary.
And this hate of caucuses is ridiculous. You can still do absentee for a caucus. QQ to all the nea sayers out there. Caucuses weren't a problem until HRC and gang learned that Obamas grass roots movement is a fucking machine and hillary inspires people so much they'd rather stay at home eating twinkies and not even drop a ballot off.
The problem with race is people keep bringing it up constantly.
example CNN. (well Obama is obviously the winner of Mississippi, lets milk this for a bit and not show it, that'll give us some ratings. Put up the precincts hillary is actually ahead in first to make it look skewed and her in an early lead.... ooo by the way, let's do a exit poll of race, and then give some old POS relic like ferraro her 5 minutes of fame for making an obnoxious comment. (I mean jesus, I thought ferraro had been in the ground for years.)
Some states with nil %black
Minnesota Obama 66% Clinton 32%
Wisconsin Obama 58% Clinton 41%
Washington Obama 68% Clinton 31%
Idaho Obama 82% Clinton 17%
it's a fucking travisty race even has to be brought up anymore. back in the day the fins/italians/welsh used to get into it something awful up here in Northern Michigan. I guess it is just taking longer for some idiots because in this mixing pot that is the US its a lot easier to differentiate between black/white.
Obama is doing well. I think the biggest plus he is getting with the AA community is, Hillary Clinton is the scum of the earth, He is eloquent as hell, well spoken, and comes across as compasionate and sincere, and 3, he isn't some reverand with a theological degree. He is a harvard graduate and has a distinguished career backing him up from Illinois on up.

I just hope that the idea of issue based voting doesnt get lost amongst 'other' based voting.
And being black, white, male, or female is NOT an issue to be voting on.

LOL, now she's turned it around and said his campaign's reaction to her comment is what's dividing the party...
Former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro on Wednesday stood by her comment that Democrat Barack Obama is only where he is because he is black and said the reaction by his campaign was dividing the party.
"My comments have been taken so out of context and have been spun by the Obama campaign as racist that it's doing precisely what they don't want done -- it's going to the Democratic Party and dividing us even more," Ferraro said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."

If she can win overwhelmingly in PA, get Florida and Michigan's delegates to count.. she'll have a pretty strong case for the nomination. She's carried every large state except Obama's home state of Illinois. Don't underestimate the machinery behind the Clintons. There will be back room 'negotiating' for the super delegate votes.
