Ok, for the ignorant, what is the 10% referring to? Is it a comparison of tithing to taxation? (assumption from Keller's tax reference)

Tithing
Giving 10% of your income to a church or religious organization.

From a sophisticated tax policy standpoint, the major distinction between tithing and tax is that tithing is redistribution of wealth for goodness sake while tax is redistribtuion of wealth for the sake of externalities. Just a quick pre-final exam thought from Keller.

I would think a BHL like Keller would somehow be insulted that 10% is enough. I mean, how can you keep giving handouts with only 10% !

God, why are you taking tax?
My criminal procedure exam yesterday was all on the limits of police power, it was fun. :)
I was like, SUPPRESS THAT EVIDENCE UNDER THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE, BITCH!

Why am I not suprised that when I quote the laws interpreted by the Supreme Court, you somehow think it's some crazy liberal BS thing I made up? ;)

DICs (diehard "independant" conservatives) like you make assumptions like that.
"OMG, he believes that social programs are part of an advanced civilization! HE R BLEEDING HEART LIBERAL!"
Oh ya, we provide social programs with 10% by getting the fuck out of international affairs. (and by making sure that big business actually pays taxes, which they currently don't)

Seeing that I worked for them doing tax matters this summer, I guess you could say that I know they don't?
In addition, I'd say that 75% of mid-sized to small S-Corps pay 0 tax as it's easy for them to zero out their income taking into consideration loss years and deferred compensation. 75% is a low estimate. I'd say the odds are it's closer to 90%, and the only reason the other 10% don't is because they hired shitty counsel.

I said big business, not small S corps. And you worked for every single one of let's say the top 500 companies?
So where did the 132 billion dollars paid by corporations in 2003 come from?

Okay, wow. Now Keller is in the egg-nogg. Say it isn't so.
I've got to find out where the taxes I booked for the corporations I worked for went... damn.

132 billion dollars is nothing. A drop in the fucking bucket.
If you want to see how much big business pays in taxes, look at profits reported to SHs vs. "income".

As the guy I think of as my business mentor said "In order to succeed as a business, you have to demonstrate to the government (IRS) that you made almost nothing, or lost money. Nevermind the fact that your business could have actually put any profit in your pocket."
It doesn't matter what size the business is, if you're not making every attempt to demonstrate you ran as close to the red, or in the red as possible ... you're pretty much throwing money at the IRS. The system was designed to be cheated without breaking any laws. 132 billion, as Keller said, is a drop in the bucket. If the federal government sat down and closed the loops and refined most of the language in the tax codes, that number would increase four fold easily. Businesses would still profit, they would just have to be a bit more honest about it.

I don't even know what the fuck a Vespa is. Perhaps you have me confused with one of your bible-thumping boyfriends.
