View Full Version : Huckabe v Paul

There's the ticket. This is shaping up to be a battle for the soul of the Republican Party. Huckabe looked like the true social conservative and Paul looked like the standard bearer for fiscal conservativism and the old Republican Party that's sick of the way the party's going.
As for the others, Romney looked like more of an empty suit than Fred Thompson; Giuliani slipped hard by being too aggressive too quickly (not to mention his improper use of city funds); Thompson looked desperate - like he lacks any substance and could only submit attacks against the other candidates. McCain looked good, but he seemed like he wasn't really in the race with the other guys.

Mike Huckabee ftw.
If this is the case, then we're going to see Hillary in the white house.

One thing's for sure: the Republican race will be much more venomous and MUCH more entertaining. I've got my popcorn ready.

McCain really dissapointed me in thie debate in that he ended up looking like a tired, but aggressively Hawkish old man.
Being conservative in the small government, isolationist sense, I have to say that if given the choice between Huckabee and Paul, I'd go with Ron Paul.
Huckabee is a man of principle, and he had some excellent answers, but I think his ideology would get into the way.
Edited to add: Of all the candidates on the panel, the only one who seemed more like an empty shirt than Romney was Guilliani. If his polling numbers don't crumple after this debate, then I'll be quite dissapointed in my fellow members of the Republican party. If it boils down to Guilliani and Hillary, then Hilliary will win.

The only concern there is that Ron Paul is a fucking nutjob. Edited to add: and a half.

Huckabee and Paul are my favorite candidates. I hope one of them takes the primary (or is at least the VP on one of them, don't see that being Paul so I'll take a Rudy/Huckabee)

Yah, but some might argue that our man McCain is more than a little nutty himself knowing he's living on borrowed time after the USS Forrestal incident that killed 132 of his fellow crewmen.

You should vote for Rue Paul.
I would be good to have a gay black American president.

Maybe it's just me but I'm severely underwhelmed by candidates on both sides.

It's weird seeing Republican style attacks against Republicans, though. I wonder if the Dems will take advantage of this.

It's strange to see them?
Did you not watch the 2000 elections between Bush and McCain? That's where Rove was at his zenith.

I guess this is the first time you've paid attention to politics?

Heard Huckabee didn't believe in evolution. That position might hurt him.

Dem's attack, but the Republicans take it to another level. And you're right, I forgot the shadow war against McCain. You have to admit, though, it wasn't as public as this and you didn't see candidates themselves taking so many shots

You mean takes it to another level like planting questions in the audience on not one but three debates so far that we know of?
Oh wait.. that was Hillary.. who will next make a statement of "OMG! I had no idea and I would never do such a thing".

Huckabee hurt himself with alot of conservatives last night with his stance on illegal aliens... that 'they are God's children and we should take care of them' will bite him in the ass.. and rightfully so. Here's an idea.. let's give tuition breaks to illegal aliens because it's not their fault their parents broke the law.
He's a tax and spend religious Republican.. far from a real conservative.
The sad part is.. Fred Thompson is probably the only real conservative in the race, but the guy seems so fucking lazy, it sours my opinion of the guy.
I'm still underwhelmed with any candidate.

I didn't know that qualified as attacking.
I noticed they did that in the debates. Hillary's name was invoked more than Jesus. Can't blame them though. They can't really say, "Look at the great results of years of Republican leadership," so I guess making Hillary look like Stalin to scare the shit out of people is the only bullet in their gun.
Also, I wonder from who's playbook she got that tactic...

When the bullet has the impact of a 200kt thermonuclear warhead, its a bullet that you pay attention to.

Well of course what Rove says is suspect. He's not the master of spin and the body politik for nothing.
The question is how much of this statement is truth? And is it verifiable?

Are you trying to say she learned that from her lesbian lover???
I hope you weren't trying to imply it came from Bill.. since I'm sure he's not allowed into the same room, let alone bed.

Would you want to be in the same bed as that frigid ice queen?

Funny as hell. Although Huckabe Didn't hate immigrants. They should have said, "How many of you think we should govern according to Jesus," or, "How many of you think Hillary Clinton is the Antichrist."
