Does anyone else get pissed at this shit? Property taxes get cut.. very minutely... which is a joke to begin with. Yay $113 lower for us! (who gives a flying fuck).

Then all the cry baby whining ass towns, cities and counties are all over the news about how they have to close libraries on Saturdays to save 40-80k a year.. (are you fucking serious?) lay off crossing guards.. lay off environmental officers.. take away "take home" police/sheriff cars.. fewer bus routes.. etc.. etc.

Pandering to the masses with fucking nonsense.

"We'll teach you to support lower taxes!" Instead of cutting pork and our other bullshit we'll just axe a bunch of shit that the public will boo hoo hoo about until we get our way again.

Fucking retarded.

You're right. The problem is there are some things only the government can do. What scares me is the fact that with conservative administrations, "Government is the problem," is becomming a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Right, and only conservative administrations are responsible for the "Government is the problem" prophesy fulfillment.

Wow thats stupid.

Then you should have said that to begin with, instead of your liberal bullshit rhetoric.

Look at that picture. Doesn't that make you feel like playing nice? Why don't you go ahead and give PB that hug now? :)

...wtf.

Generally, penny pinchers will use any excuse they need to, including in government to keep more money or reallocate funds to whatever project they choose.

I'd like to see lower estate taxes.

Why? Please give me more than, "because they're too high."

Because they are not low enough?

Actually, there are plenty of loopholes, shelters and other such devices that you can lawfully use to avoid excessive estate taxes.

Estate taxes under the current tax law dont kick in unless the estate is valued over 2 million (thats not silvers). (Correct me if I'm wrong here).

I cant think of many folks that would affect on these boards. ;)

Correct.

I read a law review article last year which basically said that unrestrained optimism is the reason people are so against the estate tax. Every idiot thinks they're going to die with an estate over 2M.

It's effecting me right now, hence the reason I would like to see them lower. That's a good enough reason.

I think the majority are missing the point.

Point being.. since they did lose a chunk of budget they are cutting things that (absurdly) the public will be most upset with. You know.. crossing guards.. libraries.. etc.

I get it.

What else should they cut? You said "pork", but what exactly does that mean? Do they subsidize Devil Ray's day games?

I'm just not sure where you come up with budget cuts. Maybe you do.

It's obvious they cut a lot of things that would cause public outcry on purpose. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

There are plenty of things to cut other than crossing guards or shutting libraries down on Saturdays.

Oh... that's often a tougher matter. There's areas like tax-cuts for certain organizations that can be "cut" however. My home town had been pretty much removing taxes for a certain business for nigh unto 15 years at the cost of less funds in a lot of other places. They removed that, the business still stayed, and there was a lot of other funding available for things like updated road signs and some new schools.

What would you cut instead?

Before I get into the obvious.. let me ask you this. Do you agree with the government purposely cutting high profile public services just to cause tears for their pockets?

The answer to your question is obvious.. and isn't under debate. Anyone with common sense can see the difference. This coming from a conservative. Even playing D's advocate on this will make you look retarded.

I could more than likely spend less than TWO minutes going over the budget and find several other things to cut out besides libraries on Saturday to save 40k a year. What a joke.

Taxes are the prices one pays for living in society. It's part of the social contract. Go live in the fucking woods by yourself and grow all your own food if you want to not have taxes.

Why should they be lower?

If you haven't noticed one thing about my political philosophy, here it is: I'm for small government which equates to lower taxes. I don't think I should have to work until the beginning of June for Uncle Sam.

Government is the least effective method of getting any job done.

Just because I don't agree with what they're currently being used for, doesn't mean I'm against the concept of taxes.

Take the example of Dubai...you can get a country along pretty well without them at least on an individual level.

I would have to agree on taxes (state in this example) if they would go to something useful, like FREE EDUCATION. Let's go by the example set by many european countries. Free college. Or at least a full reimbursement plan, where you have to pass the classes to get paid for them.

don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about all the private schools, but the public universities.

Come to think of it, if it hasn't been done by then, that will be one of my main caimpaign platforms when i run for president.
