View Full Version : Iran lashes out.
http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/08_02/lashiran2208_800x619.jpg
His face covered by a balaclava, an official brandishing a cane repeatedly lashes the back of a man found guilty of breaking Iran's morality laws.
Two police officers hold the legs of 25-year-old Saeed Ghanbari and another his arms to ensure there is no escape from the punishment of 80 lashes handed down by a religious court.
Traffic was brought to a halt in Qazvin, 90 miles west of the capital Tehran, as more than 1,000 men gathered behind barricades to watch the public flogging.

I bet this was Ganalon's favorite part of the article:
"The public lashings have been endorsed by the judiciary as a way of deterring alcohol abuse at a time when it is on the increase among young men but some religious leaders are said to be questioning their validity, fearing they have an adverse impact on the country's image abroad."
Organized religion ftw! :)

Second time today I get to say I don't think government should be legislating morality.

Amnesty International, which said it is "greatly concerned by continuing human rights abuses in Iran", has highlighted figures revealing 117 people were executed in 2006 with thousands facing floggings.
They included a woman, who had been forced into prostitution as an eight-year-old, receiving 99 lashes because of "acts contrary to chasity."
That is seriously messed up. So are we going in there for human rights issues? Seems like we need to.

Check out the look on the guy's face who's holding the arms down. I can't tell if it's a "damn, that must suck" or "man, I hope they don't find me out too."

And remember, this thread holds the Golden Ganalon Truth Value, http://www.forum.gsplayers.com/images/icons/icon14.gif, that Iran will continue to be the only Arab nation capable of maiming another human beings.
Saudis stoning women to death for an exposed ankle? Spawning individuals responsible for burning down our buildings? Sold 72 Eurofighters? Oil contracts..?
Puh-shaw, people. Liberal propaganda.
Now that we've Mission Accomplished in Iraq, we've got bigger and better things to do: Let's rightfully move on to bar the ultimate public malfeasance of lashing in the only possible place it could exist within the Mideast.

Iran has been an issue with human rights for years. I'm not sure why this is big news now.
Then again there are so many other countries that are just as bad or worse.

Bal·a·cla·va (n.):
A close-fitting, knitted cap that covers the head, neck, and tops of the shoulders, worn esp. by mountain climbers, soldiers, skiers, etc.
Ba·kla·va (n.):
A Near Eastern pastry made of many layers of paper-thin dough with a filling of ground nuts, baked and then drenched in a syrup of honey and sometimes rosewater.

I tell you what. When there's a similar incident in the major news outlets that I scan (AP/Reuters/CNN/Drudge) then I'll post it.
Until then, both you stupid fuckers need to learn what a current even news story is. And why they are posted on a discussion based internet bulliten board.

Either put your money where your mouth is, and post a current event story that deals with religious/political abuse in a country BESIDES Iran.
Or STFU.
Bitching at the absence of alternative news stories being created here on the PC when you have the power to offer alternative threads of discussion, is just well, off-topic and sheer stupidity. Neither of which you seem to be a stranger of.

No, my point is that you're basically harassing Ilvane, or anyone for that matter, who can't spam the boards in the exact same fashion as you do in order to provide what could only be a tangible argument when debating with you.
It takes nothing for me to fetch two-day-or-less old articles from a site like CNN (where you've proclaimed to have at least some up-to-date knowledge of) and find you a trillion articles involving brutality in the Mideast not at all related to, in this case, Iran.
When I spam, my shit is crazy, B; but who is loco enough to begin making thumbs-up/down threads as a plausible equal and opposite Players' Corner Forum action for every single news article with an iota of liberal spin?
It's infantile.

In Hammerrrhead's defense, they aren't necessarily infantile.. more like retarded beyond comprehension.
But he's a victim. He's a poor, poor victim of addiction. We should pity him, and not make fun of him. It's not his fault he robbed his parents, went on a drug binge and then was 'rehabilitated'.

Gan brings news stories here. If you don't like what he brings, don't read and don't comment if it bothers you that much. At least he brings items that can be discussed. It's not like you two bring a whole hell of information here to contribute to. Hell one of you deletes shit and can't ever admit that you may be wrong.
And don't give me this shit that you have to read it because it's your folder to mod. Find another folder to mod if you're going to be so critical of what can be discussed here.

What I was trying to illustrate was how a debate about Bill Nye the Science Guy and a Texas insecurity made lots of new copy-and-pasted media threads appear. I'm not talking about his posting articles, I'm talking about how badly he has to become an archivist in order to fill the gap, and if you don't respond with a forceful to-a-T counterargument, that all is lost.
That's it.

What I think I'm reading is that he's saying if you can't form a perfect argument the likes of James Carville couldn't crack, then you might as well not even try, because you'll have too many articles to bother reading shoved down your throat.
But I think both sides in the political folders are guilty of that... Generally why I stay out of arguments in this folder, I don't have the time or resources to look up all the facts to back any opinion.
That's what I read at least... not sure how it was related.

At least I didn't:
1) Steal from my parents to support my drug habit
2) Get caught and go to rehab
3) Get out of rehab a 'changed man'
4) Go back on drugs
5) Relay the entire episode on an internet forum to gain sympathy.

Fill what gap?
and if you don't respond with a forceful to-a-T counterargument, that all is lost.

You make it sound as if I respond to every single person's post in a thread. Which is incorrect. Furthermore, if you do post something I wish to respond to, which is an inherrent by-product of participating in a discussion based bbs, and you make assertions of fact that I question, then of course I will not only argue those points, but attempt to throw up some valid reference for my assertions. The requirement for someone to do the same is totally up to them.
What you're missing Stan, is that if you even bothered to ask logical and coherent questions, do a little research on the ones you decide to provide in the discussion, you might actually learn something.
So please, dont let the cute little thumbs up and down icons bother you as much as they do. If you decide you wish to participate then by all means. But dont complain when people call you full of shit because you either a)fly off the cuff with a response without checking your full of shit meter, b)make some drug-induced babble oriented post that requires multiple follow up posts by yourself to explain what you tried to say the first time, and c)expect everyone to by your opinion automatically in a discussion taking place on an internet bbs.
Because you know, the internet is serious business.
Take a fucking pill Stainley and chill, thats something you seem to be experienced in.
