Rove Steps Up His Attacks on Clinton’s Candidacy
By PATRICK HEALY

Karl Rove intensified his attack on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday, saying she lacked the vision to be president while saying she was “so weak” on national security and support for the armed forces.

Mr. Rove, President Bush’s political adviser, has been criticizing Mrs. Clinton since Monday, when he announced his intention to resign from the White House and coupled it with candid analysis, notably, calling Mrs. Clinton a “fatally flawed” presidential candidate.

Mrs. Clinton, of New York, and her advisers have denounced the attacks while privately welcoming them, hopeful that Mr. Rove, a bête noire to Democrats, will spur liberal skeptics of Mrs. Clinton to rally to her.

Advisers to Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, a Clinton rival, conjecture that Mr. Rove is trying to help Mrs. Clinton win the Democratic presidential nomination because, this thinking goes, she would be easier to beat than Mr. Obama.

Mr. Rove gave two high-profile interviews yesterday, on Rush Limbaugh’s radio program and to Reuters, essentially delivering the same message: that Mrs. Clinton had opposed Republican efforts to overhaul health care and expand medical benefits to more Americans and that she had opposed the USA Patriot Act, domestic surveillance programs and other antiterrorism measures.

“Look, she is who she is,” Mr. Rove said on Mr. Limbaugh’s syndicated program. “There is no front-runner who has entered the primary season with negatives as high as she has in the history of modern polling.

“She’s going into the general election with, depending on what poll you look at, in the high 40s on the negative side and just below that on the positive side. And there’s nobody who has ever won the presidency who started out in that kind of position.”

Mrs. Clinton, campaigning yesterday in Iowa, inserted a retort into her prepared remarks for the Iowa Federation of Labor, A.F.L.-C.I.O. Convention Presidential Forum. “I feel so lucky that I am now giving them such heartburn,” she said.

She went on to criticize Mr. Rove and other Republicans for describing her support for universal health care as equivalent to, in her words, supporting “socialized medicine.”

“That’s just an absolute falsehood,” Mrs. Clinton said. “What we want is to get the costs down, the quality up, and cover everybody. And I think we can do that.”

Her advisers squeezed advantage from the Republican attacks, going so far as to link Mr. Rove with Mr. Obama.

“It sounds like Mr. Rove and Senator Obama are reading off the same set of talking points,” said Phil Singer, a spokesman for Mrs. Clinton.

Mr. Obama’s advisers scoffed and said Mr. Rove was aiding and abetting a Clinton nomination because Republicans believed that she was too divisive to be elected.

I think Obama's camp is spot on here. Rove perceives Obama as a threat, so he's going to use his pejorative status with the liberals in this country to rally Clinton support. He never fails to impress me, he's just relentless.

That is the way liberals want to debate. If they agree with you, then let's have a parade, a demonstration, a day off from work, a day off from standing in the unemployement line, etc... if they disagree with you, then STFU.

Look at what Gore wanted to do with the Global Warming debate. "We have a scientific consensus! THE DEBATE IS OVER"

As opposed to how conservatives debate?

Welcome to politics.

As long as Rove has an ear that will listen to him, he's going to work it.

Regardless of what side he's on, you have to admire his success in the political arena. They guy is an A-game player.

I'm a republican and I want him to shut the fuck up. He's a hired gun thats all, and he's exited out of his party "officially" to stir the pot on the democratic side. He's dirty and rotten to the core....he fucked over McCain and Cleeland to name a few...he's just a scumball. Maybe if he actually spoke even, maybe, half-truths...that would be something.

All he does is corrupt a already fucked up process..

lol damn mental typos. I meant to type "I might NOT like the guy or how he operates but he is a A-Game player for sure". I dont personally like him because I think he's ethically bankrupt, but that doesn't stop me from thinking he is good at what he does.

he's good at what he does, I'm not saying he's not...but he's just a big fat liar. It's not like he's telling the truth, or exposing peoples flaws...he makes shit up, and feeds it to the ignorant masses. I blame stupid people almost as much as I blame him...I still blame him more because he uses people ignorance against them.

I have to quote this.

"he's just a big fat liar"

"he makes shit up and feeds it to the ignorant masses"

"I still blame him ore because he uses people ignorance against them."

If he lies, so blatantly, and makes shit up to feed the masses (who are ignorant - are we all part of the masses too?), then that logically says a few things.

1. Rove is the smartest man alive because nobody else has been able to detect and refute all of his lies.

2. Rove is not the smartest man alive, but just smarter than all of the liberal media, Democrat party, any other non party affiliated liberal individual (foreign and domestic), and anyone else who doesnt agree with his 'lies'.

3. OR, Rove doesnt lie any more than any other politician (which all politicians lie in some form or another), its just that he knows how his political opponents think and plays that against them... and it pisses you off that he's been so successful.

I'll let you decide.

Or, Rove lies more than everyone else, we all see through his bullshit, but are somehow in a powerless position since he won't answer subpoenas and we cannot do anything to him as long as he invokes Executive Privilege.

I don't know that I've ever heard him talk. I've seen tape of him whispering into Bush's ear, but I couldn't hear that.

He showed how impressive a campaigner he is by getting that man elected twice and also showed that getting someone elected doesn't mean they have any ability at all in leading a country.

A very valuable lesson if people actually remember it.

I thought President Grant showed that....

Grant was a mediocre military man and a worse President no doubt.

In the end, Grant was the right person to take down Lee. But he was a terrible President.

As for Rove, he did incredible in 2000, 2002, and 2004. He badly fucked up 2006 though. In regards to Clinton, I want to believe Democratic primary voters can see past his attacks to understand what they are for now, but it's August. Who the hell knows what will happen?
