With the current political landscape, I figured it was an interesting question.

No it doesn't matter. Partisan politics had a place and time, but not anymore.

When a non-Dem/Rep wins the presidency, sure it won't matter. But right now, it fuck all does.

Pretty much.

There is still a huge section of the population that votes, and votes only along party lines. There are then those that will vote either way, but never independent.

America loves the underdog, but only when they win. With that in mind, third party and independent candidates don't have a prayer in hell unless they have a few hundred mill in cash to throw away.

While an increasing portion of voters are fed up with party rhetoric and maneuvering, we're not likely to see any change in the 2 party system while any of us are young(er).

The legal system's biased against third parties. That's not exactly democratic, but I guess suppressing competition is one thing both parties can agree on.

Is the legal system really biased, or is it loaded with biased agents of either party? Because I thought at the very least the judicial branch was supposed to be free of party influence. Of course, thats not completely the case as we have seen with political appointments to the Supreme Court.

As competitive and “free market” as we profess America to be we certainly are limited by our political choices.

I think by "legal system" he means "election law" and not necessarily the courts. Election law is completely skewed towards a two party system.

I've voted third party before and even Republican before.

Way to not let us see how people are voting. Pft.

You have to fight, for your right, to party!

I would have to say I look at my party first for a good candidate, and if there isn't one, i have no problem going and voting for someone who i think will do a good job but is in another party.

Voted for Specter, who some here claim isn't a republican. Til he changes the R-PA from his name, however, I'm going to say I voted for a guy with a message I liked, who happened to be republican.

That said, I couldn't get behind someone like Santorum, who I viewed as a raving anti-feminist right wing wacko. The far right is never going to get my vote, period

As far as a presidential candidate, sure. S/He'd just have to say he's not going to stick his nose where it doesn't belong (reproductive rights) and is for a well-funded curative scientific community. A viable healthcare/malpractice overhaul would be a big selling point too.

I must have missed how to do that. Sorry.

You just love to get all up in everybody’s bruizness.

You can’t guess?

I don't like to assume Backlash who would be so close-minded Backlash to only vote on their own party Backlash regardless of how bad the candidate would be.

Haha, I've edited my own post in honour of that.

How are the people who voted for option 2 (No) any different than those who voted for option 4 (I stick to strict party lines when voting.)?

CrystalTears
07-11-2007, 04:13 PM
They're not. The fact that they went with option 4 means not only do they have to be different, but also clueless. :D

HEY!! Ok ok I walked right into that one!

Truth is I voted both parties for various positions in the last election.

I suppose option 4 would be more useful it it read "I do Not stick..."

I must have missed how to do that. Sorry.

There's a little box in the poll window that says something like make votes public... or show vote results. yea, that.

Oh, that was me, I was dazzled by the multi-select ability of the poll so I voted for all four options :D

Its possible that the OP might be able to see who voted for what if they try to edit the first post. I can’t remember if that bug/feature was here or the last incarnation.

Eh. I came up with the options with about an hour's worth of sleep.
