View Full Version : Bush and the Queen (The Queens Bush?)

When you've just made it sound like the Queen is more than 200 years old, there may be a few ways of recovering from the gaffe.

But turning to her and giving her a sly wink is probably not included in any book of royal etiquette.

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/04_03/BushDM0507_468x308.jpg

That's what happened yesterday after George Bush mangled his greeting to the Queen on her state visit to the U.S.

Stumbling over his words, he came perilously close to suggesting that the monarch had toured the States in 1776.

And although the President's following wink was initially rewarded with a regal glare, the Queen did at least seem to see the funny side of the blunder.

After the blunder the President paused and turned to the Queen to acknowledge his gaffe, joking that she "gave me a look that only a mother could give a child."

Ripples of laughter echoed around those gathered at the event and the President laughed off the mistake and continued his speech.

I know this doesnt reflect very 'presidential' on Bush, but I find the photo hillarious. I can almost see the thought bubbles....

It was said Laura Bush had to convince George to have the white tie event, he is not big for dressing up..hehe.

He must have been nervous.

That look is so priceless.

I don't buy him being nervous though. It's not like he did anything catastrophic or out of the ordinary or wrong. It's funny, but if you're nervous you generally aren't winking at the person making you nervous.

Considering how stodgy the Queen is known to be, I think the wink, and the look is priceless.

Bush always winks at people.

Yeah, to me it's just Bush being himself.

He misspoke ( shocking no?), recognized it, and made a little self deprecating joke to get beyond it.

No big deal at all and kind of funny.

I have many things I can fault him for but this certainly is not going into the pile.

Yeah, me, personally, I'm gonna stick it to him on the illegal/immoral war, his leaving behind of children, his isolation of the United States internationally, his secret, closed door energy meetings in which energy companies set policy (well, Dick did that, but Dick reports to Bush..heh), his backwards ass stance on abortion and gay rights, going so far as to suggest a constitutional amendment, and his fucking swagger.

Yeah, that.

Some people might find the dumb thing endearing, it gets old I think.

He's amusing in this case anyway.

I know exactly what you mean as I still find you endearing.

And those who had an issue with his joke, I do hope you now hate the Queen equally as much for her joke last night. I personally, was appalled. How dare the QUEEN OF ENGLAND have a sense of humor! FOR SHAME!

God... did you do a half ass job on this post.

What about him knowing about 9-11 before it happened and he didn't do anything about it!?

What about the gas prices we are currently experiencing? He and his oil friends are making BILLIONS off us!

What about him stealing the last 2 elections!?

What about him forcing members of Congress into voting against their will for the war?

What about him killing Reagan before the last election so that he would get an opportunity to get the spotlight?

What about his evil plan of delaying FEMA in New Orleans in an attempt to kill thousands, maybe millions of Blacks?

What about him giving huge tax breaks to the rich, while increasing the burden on poor people?

Next time.. be more thorough.

Some would disagree... but that's not why I think you are dumb. There are some very, very intelligent liberals on this very forum, whom I have a great deal of respect for.

Apology accepted.

You know when people say "OMG, I just spit my coffee all over the keyboard, you are so funny"? STFU, you really didn't.

I really just did. It was more of a dribble, but I seriously just laughed with a mouth full of coffee.

touche.

This whole thing raises my personal opinion of GWB. Hell, I like to buck trends myself. To me everything about the visit, his nervousness, the wink, the mother scolding the child comment... shows he has tremendous respect for the Queen, even if he came off a little crass. At least he didn’t get drunk and grab ass.

Too bad the war isn't illegal nor immoral. I guess immoral is a relative term whereas illegal isn't.

I noticed Backrash and his poll has vanished since the majority of the PC supports it.

As for the fuck up on the speech.. I had listened to it and it wasn't that bad all.. the media has made more of it than anyone else no doubt. Hell it's an honest mistake.. that whore has dined with at least 10 U.S. Presidents... thats aaaa lotttttaaaa years.

Hell Frank Drebin even rubbed his cock n' balls on her sandy trotch.

She is the Queen of England and is the Head of State of several nations. Winking at her like she some girl sitting in a sports bar is not exactly etiquette appropriate for visiting Head of States.
