So Ann "don't ask me to actually defend one of my ridiculous assertions" Coulter has shown her mindset and intelligence in referring to Edwards as a "faggot"

Way to continue whoring yourself out to the hatemongers Ann.

It'd be cool if John Edwards publicly declared that Ann Coulter is a dumb cunt. I'd vote for him.

Book smart with no EQ.

Dah well, to each their own; she's free to say whatever she wants.

Actually, you're not free to say that someone is a faggot.

Actually, you're not free to say that someone is a faggot.

You are free if they fit the public definition. You would have a case of slander if they were not.

You are not free to shout fire in a crowded theater unless there actually is a fire. (Endangerment speech clause). Or the inciting of a mob to do violence or overthrow the government. (Clear and Present Danger clause).

Webster defines faggot as a bundle of sticks or iron. So is Edwards a bundle of sticks or iron?

Most likely Coulter was indirectly referring to Edwards being gay or homosexual. But that's based on interpretation since she did not expound further the details of Edwards' faggot'ry.

So lets say the layman interpreted Coulter making the claim that Edwards is gay.

Now, is it common knowledge or can it be proved he is or is not homosexual. If he is, then she's merely speaking accurately yet callously and colloquially. If he is not, then he might have a standing for a civil action of defamation by slander. Or if Coulter's reference had actual malice. Which in the case of public officials, seems to be difficult to prove.

Is her speech protected? Well, the Miller test seems to deal more with illustrated art or expression and falls short. So does the Hinkel test. I'm guessing yes considering her wording, which was an indirect comparison rather than coming right out and saying "Edwards is a faggot".

Which leads us to his response. He could always challenge her in court, but then that leaves the door open to discuss the details of his sexuality and any other private matters involving it. Not the thing to do if you are a public official, even if you don't have any of those skeletons in your closet I'm thinking.

I think his best move is to issue an educated and even handed response while calling on other political colleagues to do the same.

And the GOP has already started responding.

"At the conference, she [Coulter] said she was likely to support Mr. Romney."

Way to fuck his candidacy Ann.

Don't worry, Romney would never be voted into presidency anyway.

This is where I doubt in the existence of God, cause people like her should be SMOTE.

I actually know someone at CPAC this weekend. I'll have to ask her if she thinks Edwards should burn for his faggotry. She is hardcore conservative Catholic, she'll probably say yes.

Seriously... Gan can rationalize and sematicise anything into anything else. Its quite a gift actually.

I’m disappointed that the story didn’t get main stream coverage. The blogs are afire though.

A group of some of the most prominent conservative bloggers is banding together to send an open letter to CPAC's organizers urging that they not invite her back. The full letter is after the jump. In sum, they argue, she has become an embarrasing distraction that helps Democrats and coarsens the political conversation. (http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0307/The_C_Word.html[/url)

Thanks. Being able to do that only comes with a lot of practice. Its one of many reasons why my family still thinks I should get my law degree.

Well she's on a role.

Racking up another suspension (working on another "parting of ways" aka fired) ... for a comment about Obama on her radio show ... "clean darkie".

Just caught it flipping through the news channels ... msnbc if you can find it.
