Romney joins 2008 Presidential Race (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070213/ap_on_el_pr/romney2008)
I happen to think he's a raging douche bag, but he'd be a good contender for the GOP. Swing NE voters.

You think he's a douche bag, and you're saying he would be a good candidate? I swear I don't understand you people sometimes.

I'm saying he's a good candidate if you're from the GOP. I think he's a raging douche bag and think he's a shitty candidate....
...however, I can separate myself far enough to realize he'd be a tough candidate for the Dems to run against.

This isnt intended as a rib, I just took the first statement at face value that any candidate who would be a good fit for the reps would have to be a dousche by The E's standards. Its kind of like a good description of ice as "cold".

That's how I understood it, which is why I questioned it. And that's how he explained it, so...
Basically a GOP candidate has to be an asshole. Good job.

He's a Mormon and the narrowminded religious right won't give him a chance.

It's TheE... why bother? He's become Backlash Jr.

An asshole in my opinion, yes. ;)
As for being Backlash Jr. - I don't smoke up, nor am I outright insane. My invective is based on fact, look at what Romney did in 4 years in MA and you'll see what I mean. Totally destroyed schools by making MCAS restrictions impossible, tried to make bilingual schools use only English, and is currently, even though he has no position whatsoever, is trying to PERSONALLY OVERTURN a Supreme Judicial Court (the highest court in MA) ruling that gays have the right to be married and overturned all legislation forbidding it.
I mean, if someone tried to directly overturn something the Supreme Court said (which is thus binding) - would you want that person to be President?

Okay but my point is why would you say ANY candidate on either side should run if you feel they are an asshole? What if they, holy shit, win? Now you're stuck with that asshole.
It's a strange way to look at things, sorry.
And no, I don't want a president who would try to overturn a Supreme Court decision. So yes, I agree, he's an asshole, so maybe he shouldn't fucking run.

-TheE-Yea, this is pretty much what I took your inital post to mean.
Agreed, by the way.
I saw him speak over a year ago about his presidential hopes. He was a bumbling mess at the time who was quite obviously avoiding answering any tough yet conservative questions directed at him. That was a huge turn off. You'd think that someone in his position of not being all that well known on a national scope he'd make a more concerted effort to discuss the issues important to winning an election, but that didn't happen.
Amazing we are seriously having this discussion when the election is 2 years off. So much can happen between now and then. With the big names that have already jumped in Romney will have to work hard to make himself a household name if he stands any chance.
Amazing we are seriously having this discussion when the election is 2 years off. Now is as good a time as any, in my opinion.
He along with the other hopefuls have 2 years to wow the voters and I think it only fitting that their political views up till now be discussed considering most of them or lack thereof will come into question in the long run anyway.
