I don't think 'they' came up with anything. He freely admitted doing cocaine in a book about 10 years ago.

And by they.. do you mean the Republicans or the other Democrats who are running against him? Personally, I think Obama should be more worried about Clinton than any Republican.

I really detest how these things become partisan and how either side takes something so fucking trivial and runs with it.

First is his name ... it's just his fucking name. His parents weren't clairvoyant and probably had no clue who Sadam or Osama were, let alone how they would turn out.

Had he legally changed his name 10 years ago (using his awesome powers of fortune telling) ... it would be out now and we would still have this post here bashing something he has no controll of.

Drug use ... let's be a bit more specific. He admitted to doing it in writting 12 years ago as a teenager. That cat has been out of the bag for some time; a good deal of time before becoming a State senator.

Bush on the other hand partied like a frat boy until he "saw the light" of a political career through the religious right vote .... after it was apparent that he couldn't hack it any other way. He already had responsibilities of family and business.

Clinton was an idiot when responding to the question. His sex life never should have been brought to trial and Star should be hanged by his fucking nuts and beat like a pinata until every wasted tax dollar bursts out of him.

Then there's this ...

I used to smoke pot all the time.. then I hit 22 and became responsible.

So it's fine for you, but not anyone else?

I'm sorry, but people do stupid shit when they're young. I have more trust in people who are honest about it and took responsibility for their lives when the need was presented.

I smoked pot, drank like a fish, partied, experimented ... all before 21. At 21 it slowed down, when my wife fist became pregnant I stopped.

The difference here is responsibility and reality. You took responsibility, I took responsibility, and millions of others took responsibility. This isn't the 80's where "if you smoke pot you'll do other drugs and be a loser the rest of your life". This is the new millennium and we have more truths and more facts that overshadow the fear and guilt of that particular decade.

Did Bush lie about drug use? Too lazy to look into, but I do vaguely remember him telling a lie and then getting his chops busted.

Did Clinton lie? Yep, and it wasn't even a believable lie.

Did Obama lie? Nope ... pretty much cleared the closet almost 12 years ago.

Was it OK for Obama to use drugs? Nope ... then again he did it when the rest of us did. Georgie Boy partied on longer than most of us.

Parkbandit
01-04-2007, 12:36 PM
Let's go point by point:

1) Never said anything about Obama.. except he had the worst name ever in politics. No shit he had nothing to do with it... never implied he changed his name to that.

2) My point about bringing up his drug use was that for all those libs, including yourself, who bashed Bush nonstop about his supposed use.. I hope that you would put the same scrutiny to Obama that you put to Bush.. otherwise, I'll call you out. Personally, I did drugs.. Bush did drugs and Obama did drugs. Means nothing to me, as long as they have stopped.

You bitch about how it's so partisan.. yet your post is littered with knocks against Bush. How about before you start with your holier than thou posts, you double check for the hypocracy in your words.

ElanthianSiren

This is probably the one time you'll see me stand up for Bush (oh and on immigration). Nobody's quite sure how long Bush partied because any pertinent evidence was allegedly sealed by his father. What exists is conjecture, often fueled by the book Fortunate Son. I don't hate anyone for using drugs, nor do I feel it impossible to do something with your life as a drug user. -Look at the father of modern psychology if you don't believe this.

In general, I feel sorry for people that use because they haven't taken the time to experiment with their own bodies and discover the better rush from: 1. falling/being in love (scientifically proven to release opiate-like chemicals in the brain).
2. adrenaline, adrenaline, adrenaline, which can mock some of the strongest stimulants and make your skin crawl deliciously.

Like many others, I find fault with Clinton for trying to be "cute" about his use. However, just because I don't smoke, drink, or do hard drugs, I don't begrudge people that do because it's not my life. BTW, I love Obama. He's a great speaker with enough balls to disclose things like this in a climate dominated by "morality". People making fun of his name is going to happen though. Humans are tribal.

Drug use is drug use and I'll agree that past use has very little bearing in the here and now.

You wanted to point out a hypocrisy, yet left out the fact of responsibility.

Obama doing drugs as a teen is no different than you, myself, or anyone really. Young people do stupid shit. So long as they didn't leave a lasting negative impact on another person or persons ... it's the stupidity of youth.

That being said, you can't compare a teenager's drug use to the drug use of an adult with responsibilities to others.

The comparison is rather moot to begin with. One freely admitted it prior to becoming a political wonder boy, the other tried to shove it under a very thin sheet of veneer.

You bitch about how it's so partisan.. yet your post is littered with knocks against Bush. How about before you start with your holier than thou posts, you double check for the hypocracy in your words.

My knocks on Bush are not partisan. He's the captain of a shit boat the crew didn't think worth mutineering ... so they bailed. I would feel the same way about him despite his political affiliation. My bashing him has nothing to do with partisanship. If it did, I'd have a long list GOP members with a past of drug use.

Ethics and morality.... of course it should be brought to trial WHEN YOU'RE THE PRESIDENT. Fine example. I know I've cheated on my wife at least three times since and used Clinton as an excuse since.

Ethics and morality ... these are abstract concepts that differ from one person to another.

Getting hummers from consenting adults outside of one's marriage is moral/ethical issue to be dealt by those involved in the marriage and act.

You can use someone else as an excuse all you want, it just reinforces my belief that you're a worthless piece of shit who can't justify his own actions and has to look elsewhere for validity.

Considering drug use or admitted drug use disqualifies you from MOST positions of any responsibility ..... yes it's a big deal... no matter when it was done it is a measure of ones character especially in GOVERNMENT positions.

Admitted drug use disqualifies you from very little, not even elected or appointed positions. It's a matter of a vote. If the voters think it's a big deal, they'll vote in such a manner, like wise if they don't.

As far as being a measure of character, I agree to a small extent. Not everyone experiments with drugs in their youth, but I would venture to guess that a large number do ... and then they grow up. Well most do, you have yet to show any signs.

It is a measure of character in that some show signs of personal and social responsibility ... they tried it, learned, and moved on. It's also a measure of character for those that tried, and keep trying.

You sir..are a douche for thinking otherwise.

Thanks for playing ... but you shouldn't throw stones even after you're standing in a pile of broken glass that was your home.

TSAH "you're inbred and uneducated even tho you have a degree and live in one of the biggest metro's in the country blah blah blah blah waaaaaaaaah"

Consider it a favor. I know you have better things to do with your time like monitoring buffets and shit.

If you have a degree in anything other than wife beating, sister/mother/granny fucking, it only goes to further my belief that anyone capable of walking upright can attain one and further indication that current trends are seriously deflating the value of a degree ... more proof that our education system (at all levels) is in serious jeopardy.

I should point out that I'm very flattered at your attempt to imitate me ... you fall well short of the mark however. Perhaps you should open up MS word and practice for a few years. While you do so, go out and start life over ... so far you're failing.

As far as me having better things to do, well ... being partnered in a hotel doesn't require my every waking effort. We've got a very capable manager now and my time requirements fall more along the lines of development and event planning. Hardly requires more than 10 hours a week and only 30 minutes of that is actual work. I left my full time job weeks ago, though it was actually months due to vacation time.

No, I spend my time screwing around in the garage with one brother, kicking around the idea of another business venture ... screwing around in the kitchen with my cousin who is going back to college and culinary school and kicking around ideas for another business venture.

I leave the buffet issues up to the people I pay to deal with those issues and rarely do customer complaints escalate to the need for my attention.

It's an issue of relevance. Had Lewinsky ever came forward with harassment charges, the line of questioning would have had relevance. She never did, she never implied it in questioning, and the whole thing was irrelevant to the case.

I'm not defending Clinton past this one issue. It wasn't anyone's business unless he harassed her. Well no one's business other than his, his wife's and Lewinsky's.

He was an idiot for claiming not to inhale and he was an idiot who should have been brought up on perjury for spewing a lie on the stand. It may be your Alzheimer's kicking in, but I've bashed the Dems as hard as I've bashed republicans ... I reserve a special bat for Bush.

For someone who is in management, you have a very bad grasp of the term sexual harassment.

I would argue to the contrary.

From my understanding, Clinton was approached by Lewinsky. You can argue flirting or intent on Clinton's part, but the simple fact that Lewinsky never even implied harassment but was all about consent ... all indicative to irrelevance to the hearings.

In this day and age, anything can be considered sexual harassment. You can't even hold the door open for the opposite sex without fear of civil action. However, as a former manager it would have been my job to investigate any claim and take appropriate action or inaction.

I've had cases where a young women would complain of being harassed by a male co worker. Most of those were bullshit to begin with. The guy would ask the girl out for a date, the girl wasn't attracted to the guy ... said no and filed a complaint. Yet had a history of dating other co-workers. Had the guy persisted it would have been harassment, since most of the guys in question never bothered the girl/s they asked out past the first invitation ... no harassment.

Now if it's down right lewd or outright propositions of sex .. ya there's a case.

But this is all irrelevant. Hummers and cigar jobs in the oval office between two consenting adults had nothing to do with the Clinton hearings. It was a waste of tax dollars, waste of time, and accomplished nothing more than pointing out that Clinton would rather lie than use his head and say none of your fucking business.

You are correct, in this day and age, almost anything can be construed as sexual harassment.. including someone in a power position over someone in a non power position. Consent does not necessarily equate to not being sexual harassment.

CrystalTears
01-04-2007, 02:46 PM
Er, consent is not sexual harrassment. You can't charge someone with sexual harrassment and then be found that you consented and were a willing participant in the incident. It will get dismissed, and probably turn around and bite you in the ass for making a false claim.

You are correct, in this day and age, almost anything can be construed as sexual harassment.. including someone in a power position over someone in a non power position. Consent does not necessarily equate to not being sexual harassment.

As CT mentioned, consent is the deciding factor.

If a female employee of mine came into my office, stripped down and said "do me now" and had a hard time walking correctly afterward .... good fucking luck with a harassment case. I'm sure I'd lose everything in the ensuing divorce case, but that employee wouldn't have a prayer in hell of getting anything from me or my company unless she lied her ass off and I was a total chump who couldn't disprove anything she presented.

Consent will always disprove harassment unless consent is coerced ... which is not really concent.

Consent can be found to be sexual harrassment if the person in power propositions the employee and the employee "consents" because (s)he feels (s)he has no other option and that saying no will affect his/her job.

But if the employee propositions the boss, and then both consent...that's not sexual harrassment.

It's called NO and GTFO.

TheEschaton

Errr, NOT WRONG. Courts have continually found validity in the idea of "forced consent", if there exists a power relationship where the propositioner has power over the employee's job and the employee has fear that their job is in jeopardy if they don't say yes.

And thus the reason why consent isn't THE deciding factor.. since it's a he said/she said type of evidence. A person in power having anything that can be construed as sexual harassment with someone who is in a 'lower' level of power is considered sexual harassment.

Even Hillary said in an interview (before the evidence proved Bill was lying).. that if this were indeed true, it would be a "very serious offense". I don't think she was saying it would be an offense against her or her marriage.

I think Clinton was/is a scumbag. No surprise there. I'm sure most will say this has nothing to do with the discussion, but I feel like posting.

There was a cop in my town who applied for a job in a neighboring town. During the polygraph portion of the interview he admitted to having sex on duty. Needless to say, that one bit of info about his past caused him to not get the job. Word got back to his then current chief and he was promptly fired. This guy, an excellent cop and more than decent human being, risking his life for $15/hr was canned because he had sex while on duty. What goes on behind closed doors and under desks in the oval office is our business, as the President's employer.

And since I just now read this post, Dick Swett was from NH, a democrat elected under the promise of no anti-gun laws. Almost got lynched when he hooked up with Billy boy and made the first big step to neutering the law abiding American public.

Considering what is imposed upon manliness, the female never gets the guilt deserved in a situations like these, as the alleged aggressor and tattle tale It could be said she caused it, but Bill should've known better, and even a weak man should have been able to resist that face.

I will dangerously concede that we all would have been better off had this not been brought to light, but since it was, there is no fault for pursuing the proper moral, ethical and legal(yes, cheating is against the law) consequences for the offenders. The ensuing circus was a total mess, and unnecessary.

I can't seem to gather my thoughts for the rest of the post, so I will leave it at that.

The problem with coerced concent is that it's all he said, she said. "Bill said that if I went along with it, I would be able to move up in Government!" Because of his position, he could easily get her some promotion or position of more power than she already had. The fact that someone of power was having relations with someone below him or her can easily give the impression that they were getting something more out of it than a dress full of evidence.

I find it amusing that we even have to have this argument of who is more responsible. I'm certain that if the President had been Bush, we would have moved beyond this 8 years later.

Uh, it was a big deal during Clinton's first run. It was a big deal from Bush's first run. It'll be a big deal if Barack runs. But in the end, what matters to me (and most people), is whether anyone else suffered the consequences of those actions, and whether the behavior indicates a lack of maturity.

In the former case, no one got hurt by anyone.

In the latter case, Clinton and Obama did drugs at a younger age, and then foreswore it to be serious. Much like myself, and, I'm sure, many other people on this board.

G.W. partied well into his thirties, with drinking and alcohol, and didn't quit until Laura said she'd leave him if he didn't stop.

Edited to add: Now, being immature isn't a crime. Nor is it particularly a reason to not vote for someone. But, eh.

Democratic Sen. Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) said Tuesday he is taking the initial step in a presidential bid that could make him the nation's first black to occupy the White House.

Obama announced on his Web site, http://www.barackobama.com, that he was filing a presidential exploratory committee. He said he would announce more about his plans in his home state of Illinois on Feb. 10.

"I certainly didn't expect to find myself in this position a year ago," Obama said in a video posting. "I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics. So I've spent some time thinking about how I could best advance the cause of change and progress that we so desperately need."

Obama, a little more than two years into his Senate term, is the most inexperienced candidate considering a run for the Democratic nomination, but nonetheless ranks as a top contender. His appeal on the stump, his unique background, his opposition to the Iraq war and the fact that he is a fresh face set him apart in a competitive race that also is expected to include front-runner Sen.Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Other Democrats who have announced a campaign or exploratory committee are 2004 vice presidential nominee John Edwards, former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich.

Obama tried to turn his biggest weakness — his lack of experience in national politics — into an asset.

"The decisions that have been made in Washington these past six years, and the problems that have been ignored, have put our country in a precarious place," he said.

"America's faced big problems before," he said. "But today, our leaders in Washington seem incapable of working together in a practical, commonsense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions."

He said Americans are struggling financially, dependence on foreign oil threatens the environment and national security and "we're still mired in a tragic and costly war that should have never been waged."

"As Senator Barack Hussein Obama enjoys superstar status within the news media, a background check of the 45-year old Illinois Democrat revealed that he was a student in a Muslim madrassa in Indonesia and that he was raised by his stepfather as a Muslim.

While his defenders are calling this an attack based on fear-mongering, there are those who believe this is troubling news since Obama never mentioned this information in his book.

Some observers believe Sen. Obama himself used his revelation about drug use -- including cocaine -- as a smokescreen to hide his Islamic background.

"It's not about Obama being Muslim that concerns me. It's the fact that he's been deceptive about his religious and educational background," says political strategist Mike Baker.

Most madrassas are funded by Saudi Arabia and are known to teach a radical form of Islam known as Wahhabism.

According to Democrat Party sources, Obama spent at least four years studying at the Indonesian madrassa.

While there are several stories about this latest Senator Obama revelation, many inside the Beltway believe the story came from Senator Hillary Clinton's supporters in order to take the wind out of the sails of Obama's fledgling presidential run."

Granted, it's a slanted source, but the best one I could find on this story, since you probably won't hear about it on CBS anytime soon.

Clinton war machine (CWM) is just starting to gear up. I think the Democratic primaries will be fun to watch.

Well, FOX jumped on it. Obama wrote about the experience in his first book. Whoever Mike Baker is... he’s an idiot.

Exactly, the Democrat party would never resort to fear mongering, misleading the public or distorting the truth through innuendos or outright lying. Never. They are the party of the people afterall. They represent all that is good and right with society, just dont pay attention to their lavish parties, behind the scenes land deals, and other social elietist behavior that the Republicans point out. They are just fearmongering and stooping to personal attacks. The Democrats truly feel your pain.

If it turns out to be untrue or false, then boo on Fox imo. They should check and recheck their sources.

If it turns out to be true.. doesn't it make you wonder why all the other 'news' programs refused to air it?

It is a true story. He wrote about it in his first book.

So speculating that Clinton’s camp somehow dug up this hidden information to smear him is ridiculous. In fact, its more of a smear on Clinton’s camp at Obama’s expense. On top of that, its just another example of climate of fear that has gripped our country.

No one is reporting it because it is a non-issue. I went to Hebrew School for a year when I was 6 and I’m not in any way a Zionist.

He wrote in his first book that he attended an Islamic school for 2 years in Indonesia, then attended a Catholic school. So not false that he attended an Islamic school, but relatively unimportant, considering he's a Christian.

The source you cited above, Parkbandit, is outright lying, however, since it was mentioned in his book, and the source saying it was not.

Where did you get that this came from the Republicans? We pwn the rights to "Climate of Fear".

Don't make me send the boys in black to your house liberal pussy boy.

I liked how they used his middle name in the article. They're being "objective" by putting in an actual fact in there, but the only reason to do it is to make him look worse.

Oh, and as for Democrats fear-mongering. Please, please, please mention 1 time when the Democrats have outright lied about a Republican candidate to provoke fear in voters who might vote for the Republican.

1. Every time TV news anchor Dan Rather discussed Bush Sr. and Quayle he used Quayle's middle name. Every time. As a means to distinguish Quayle's upbringing being anything but common or humble.

2. Dan Rather and the Bush Jr. reserve letters that later proved to be false and eventually resulted in Rather's resignation.

Well.

After witnessing at least one possibly United States president's religious beliefs manifested through politics, I'm going to have to say that I have much more faith, no pun intended, in an individual with a less politically obvious, period, religious background versus that of one forged by fire and brimstone-reinforced tabernacles surmounted by the Creator himself/her/itself in the Holy dwelling of...

Crawford.

Seriously, I'm all for convoluted religion, and especially lack thereof, as if it (theism. Period) was actually supposed to follow some couple-century-old amendment, or sump'n like that, when put into the political playing field.

Two of these: ¢.

His name was Dan Danforth Quayle?

Or are you saying that....BECAUSE he chose to run under his middle name, it was somehow biased to say his whole name?

If I started running under A. Pat Pinto, would it be a crime to call me Patrick?
