View Full Version : Pat Robertson: God told me of 'mass killing' in 2007

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (AP) -- Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat.

God also said, he claims, that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

He (Robertson) knows how to attract his target clientele for exploitation.

Just to add - Since I view many of the things he does as epic sales pitches, I wouldn't exactly call being a businessman looney in its entirety, actually :-\

It's probably a good risk he took, IMO.

If it does happen, holy shit.. think of all the new faith that will be born. At 10%... can you say LOTTERY!? Sure, they might lose a couple due to the tragedy.. but hey, I bet there were a lot of atheists in there... and they deserved to die anyway.

If it doesn't happen, then somehow God prevented it and saved millions of Americans.

Robertson is just doing what the priest/shaman/witch-doctor class of society has been doing since we were living in caves. Claiming to know more than the rest of us through some special supernatural connection and using that as a means to control/hold power over us. Well, some of us...

I don't see anything wrong with church, I think it teaches good morals. Anyway... The first time I go with her to her church my jaw drops. We get inside and smiling faces welcome us to come in and sit down, it's stadium seating by the way. I'm sure Latrin will confirm that there have been others. An interesting finding of recent archaeology is that the historical part of the Bible doesn't start until much later (Biblically speaking) than most people would guess. Most folks don't buy into Biblical creation, but it's looking like figures as late as King David and King Solomon aren't historical figures, isn't that fascinating?

As for the Book of Revelation, like most of the Bible it's not meant to be taken literally. It's about Emperor Nero and the Romans or some wacky thing.

The original story gets about 100000x funnier if you imagine it occurring as Bill Cosby's sketch about Noah, with Pat Robertson playing the role of Bill Cosby.

He is the most powerful man on this planet right now.. seems to me if I were God, he would be the one I would talk to. I don't believe God talks through the most powerful people. If that were the case there would be no need for Jesus to have come to earth in the flesh, experience persecution at the hands of those who considered themselves God-fearing, and ultimate death at the hands of those who were in the most powerful positions who refused to hear his message because he was perceived by them to be a "regular Joe".

Or maybe I'm just jealous because the last time I tried to speak to God all I got was a recording that said "all our spiritual beings are busy at the moment; please try again later", which made me sad.

Seriously, if God talks to you and you want to convince others of this, follow his advice; "faith without works is dead". I've always believed that at least.

I think CT was pointing out that God has never told anyone of a great disaster and instructed them to warn everyone.

Lot And Noah are poor examples to use because they were instructed to get their own and get the fuck out of Dodge ... screw everyone else.

If you're thinking along the lines of prophets, well they were given an inkling of what could be if things didn't change. Prophets were largely ignored and the bad shit went down.

When you combine literairy licence and 20/20 hindsight ... you get religious texts.

Pat Robertson on the other hand ... Well anyone else would be laughable, Robertson is scary. Scary in the sense that people follow him. I'm not talking about his "100s of millions of viewers" who are in reality anyone who subscribes to a cable service; I'm talking about the 100s of thousands, if not millions that actively watch his drivel.

He, and other evangelists, can pretty much tell their loyal "sponsorship" (customers) how to vote, what to buy ... all in all how to live, and they do it.

If he says great disaster, there are people that believe him. If he were to name a specific location (notice he's vague as vague can be), thus saving the faithful ... there would be a small exodus of people from said location.

I any case, it's win win for him. If a disaster happens it was due to a lack of faith. He was right, more followers, more cash. If he was wrong, well he wasn't wrong. The faithful came through with prayers and cash.

I'm not implying that there is a god, master alien race, or anything else that you should believe.

The only reason was to point out what I believed CT response was referring to.

These are literary references passed on by mouth from generation to generation until the culture advanced enough to put the gist of the story to something less affected by the passing of years. You can believe or not believe ... or you can take "god" out of the picture and logically think of what inspired the story ... some of us do.

Next time you're in church ask the Minister or Priest about the gospel of John, Chapter 2, specifically verses 13-19

"Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!.........Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
