I'm so glad he's running. I wish he had the chance instead of Kerry this past election. I think he'd do an excellent job as our President.

Oh, your party did so much. Want a list?
On topic... I do like Edwards, but I don’t see how he could possibly beat Obama.

Easy. The Democrats at the top of the heap will realize that at this pivotal point where no rational reason exists to vote against the Democrats, that this is no time to offer an irrational reason for people to not vote for Democrats.
You saw what they did in Tennessee, right? "Vote for Ford and he'll sleep with our white women!" was practically the message there.
The same thing goes for women - "Do you really want the button in the control of someone who PMSes once a month?" It's too easy to make people irrationally fear voting for minorities, especially in a time of turmoil and change.
Get a plain jane white guy, preferably Protestant, in the office to usher in change. Once change has been accepted and stability ensues is when you can offer minority candidates.

On topic... I do like Edwards, but I don’t see how he could possibly beat Obama. His legislative record and his political skills have hardly begun to be tested.
I believe he has a very long road ahead if he decides to pursue the office of the presidency. Once his political interests become more clearly defined and his political agenda is set we'll know more. Until then, I view him as a young, suave, politician who is the medias political love child for the time being.

We just need to get the other 10 or so Democratic Wannabes to say they are running.. then the fun can begin.
What do you really think?
What I've already stated. To add, he truly has great potential and will go far in the political arena. He knows how to work alongside Republicans and he's not afraid to tackle tough controversial issues yet remain steadfast. All bonuses in his favor.
My opinion at this point is purely tentative. Once his agenda becomes more apparent I'll have more to say about his presidential viability.

I really like Edwards. Do I think he'll win? No.
I don't really get the big hype with Obama either..though he's interesting to watch speak, I don't think he has the experience.
I want a decent candidate.

As I've posted before ... Obama has about as much political experience as JFK did prior to his election into the oval office.
I think inexperience brings a different perspective. Maybe get someone younger in there before they get too jaded or too bloated.
Edwards I don't see winning. I don't even see Edwards giving Hillary a run for her money ... as much as I'd like to see almost anyone trounce her.
I'll stick to my earlier post ... A head to head between Obama and McCain would be a heated race, One or the other against any opposing loser candidate would probably end in a landslide. McCain has my vote, Obama could have it ... if neither are present it's another 3rd party vote for me unless we have a 3rd Bush or Bushesque candidate.

Holy shit, I totally agree with you. I do think, however, that one of the most appealing things about Edwards is that he can do a good job getting votes in the South. If a Democrat can win Southern states then that virtually assures him/her of victory. If Gore had won his home state he would have been President.
Obama/McCain would be great because either would make a good President.

I don't like McCain that much. He has this moderate look on the outside, but his votes are actually pretty conservative on some major issues I believe in, so he wouldn't be my choice At first glance I liked the looks of him, but delving deeper into the issues I really didn't agree with him much.
I have no idea where I'm voting this year. I'd love to see a new party, but that is going to take years to happen.

:::HYPOCRITE ALERT:::
John Edwards criticized Bush about making speeches in NYC and using the tragedy of the 9-11 attacks for political gain.
Yet.. he did the same thing in New Orleans with Katrina.
Oh wait.. it's different with him.

There are differences. One was an attack on our soil, the other was a natural disaster.
We're not at war with hurricane spawning weather.
The other big difference is that big federal bucks went into cleaning up after 9-11 and keeping NY aloft. We have seen progress. The same can't be said of NO.
I do believe it is deplorable for any public "servant" to use a disaster for personal and political gain. Edwards should be using his power and influence to help the people of the region instead of trying to farm votes.
In any case the two situations are beasts of differing natures, not birds of a feather ... though neither is justified.

My point was that John Edwards is nothing more than a typical political hypocrite.. I wasn't debating the merits of two different disasters, global warming or what color tie he was wearing.

I like John Edwards. I voted for him in 2004 in the primary, and I'll probably vote for him in 2008 unless Gore gets in.
As for will he get the nomination, I'd say he's got a decent chance. Clinton's not going to win it...she doesn't have base support. Obama excites a ton of people, though. The question will be whether he can sustain that popularity all the way to 2008. No one else in the second tier or the third tier of candidates is going to have a chance at this point, except maybe Bill Richardson.
Of course, if Al Gore gets in, he's getting the nomination. But I don't think he's getting in.
And I don't expect McCain to get the Republican nomination either. The conservative base does not trust him. It'll be either Romney or Brownback.

JOHN EDWARDS UNDERSTANDS WALLPAPER FOR WINDBREAKA...
JOHN EDWARDS UNDERSTANDS PEANUT BUTTA SANDWICHES AND KOOL-AID...
JOHN EDWARDS UNDERSTANDS GRITS... AND GRAVY...
Best quote ever from the last election. 2 points to anyone knows whence it originates, and an additional two points if you know what the fuck said person was talking about :)
And I'm kidding; I know about what he's speaking. I just remember hearing that and being unable to stop laughing. Hilarious.
EDIT: Also remember that John Edwards understands juries (for good or ill). His record with the cerebral line of cases, ladies and gentlemen, is why you hate (and love) us lawyers.

Ughh at Brownback and his 'amazing talking embryos'.
Richardson needs to stay in NM, unfortunately. Otherwise,

Except...Edwards helped organize an alternate Spring Break for college students in partnership with Habitat for Humanity back in March to go build houses in New Orleans. Over 700 students came to volunteer on that, and he was building houses with them.
In other words, he's done more than just make speeches.

As for Edwards's comments about Bush speaking in NYC, I recall his criticism being that Bush was using the platform to basically denounce the patriotism of Democrats in his re-election campaign, not a criticism of Bush for speaking in NYC itself. I could be wrong though.

And then they had to give the stage to John Kerry, who, if he was any more blue blood, he'd be a Kennedy.
