No, seriously....if Lieberman wins his Senate seat (he's ahead of Lamont in the polls 48-40) in CT as an Independent, is he obliged to be an Independant (officially) in the Senate?
Just a quick procedural question, but I can't find an old Joe Lieberman thread.

No,
You can be whatever the fuck you want.
I'm betting he'll remain an independant and take advantages of being catered to by both parties for his vote should he win the seat.

Christ I hope he doesn't win, he's such a Duche Bag, YOU LOST THE PRIMARIES, deal with it!
If he lost the Democratic primary, and yet wins as an Independant. What message does that send to the Democratic party?

Wouldn't mind him winning at all. It's a good thing when people who are not afraid to piss off their party sits in office.

If he is ahead of the Democratic candidate in the polls, and the Democratic candidate is waaaay ahead of the Republican candidate, what message does that send to the Republicans?

Not much since CT is a democratic state.

Incumbants usually win in general elections. Don't be stupid and not vote for them in primaries!
Right now its Lieberman (I) at 48%, Lamont (D) at 40% and Schlesinger (R) at 5% as of Oct. 9th.
When Lamont won the democratic primary, it was only democrats voting. Now that the polls include everyone, it points to republicans abandoning their own candidate in favor of Lieberman which is really interesting considering he ran on Gore’s ticket less than 5 years ago.
Either way, its a win for the Democrats. Lieberman is far more left-wing than any Republican realizes on everything except MAYBE the war. Winning as an independent means he’s still going to largely back democratic legislation and have little other voice than that.
And, yes CT, its a traditionally Dem state.

Ehhhh, I think it has more to do with Lieberman being the incumbant. The people who didn't vote in the primary due to political apathy will always answer "yes" to the question, "Are you very likely to vote in the general election?" And then, when asked who they'll vote for -- they'll mention the only candidate they can remember, Lieberman.

I said it because it's pointless to bring up "what will the Republicans think" since they won't give a shit because the Democrats rule here.
I know you just like saying the word Republican in your posts and have this limit to hit each month, but there wasn't a point to your post other than to just say "HOHOHOHO Republicans will lose" or something.

Well, its more about suggesting that Republicans in Connecticut want a more moderate candidate than their own party will provide. Like taking the label “Democrat” off of Lieberman suddenly changed Republican’s minds about him.

Leiberman never was your typical Democrat. I knew several Republicans who voted for him even then. I personally don't think it changes anything.

The reason Lieberman was selected as the VP was because he was a moderate to help draw some Republican votes. It doesn't surprise me in the least that Lieberman is winning. He's a guy that votes what he thinks and doesn't always toe the party line.
I disagree with a shitload of his ideas.. but I respect him.

His flip-flops on Iraq for swing votes in the elections make Kerry's platform look levelheaded.
I wouldn't vote for him based solely on the fact that he supported the war, but what he has done in the past couple of months to collect swing votes by being an excellent politician has my motor neurons translate into = horrible to vote for (moreso.)
Then again, Connecticut is the claustrophically white picket-fenced halfway hellhouse littered with the aged cheese odor of antique shops between Boston and NYC.
