I'd have supported this a hell of a lot more than Iraq, the snarky bastards. They probably still deserve it for foot dragging.

This was 5 years ago. Musharraf is likely only mentioning it now (in desperation) to attempt to shore up domestic support prior to an U.S. operation on Pakistan soil.

This operation, should it happen, will be targetting the obvious AQ targets and will occure prior to early November, with the timing of the elections in mind.

Note that even India is going along, playing nice with Musharraf on other matters (likely a deal where the US asked India to do so, with the promise of trying to get the nuclear deal through Congress sooner).

The problem is that Musharraf may not be able to hold onto power, as this only reinforces the domestic opposition opinion that he cannot stand up to the U.S. However, seeing how he is in between a rock and a hard place, probably choose subtly preparing for the U.S. operation as the lesser of two evils in trying to retain power (the greater evil is that the U.S. completely abandons supporting him).

"This was 5 years ago."

What I said still holds true. Also says something about the length of Iraq and how long they waited to do this.

I agree that it would had been nice if the US military raided NW Pakistan during or after the Afghanistan conflict, prior to Iraq.

Obviously the horrendous mismanagement of Iraq delayed this for far too long.

They are, for all of wordplay's conveniences, a sovereign nation. Bin Laden will only be found if he gets bold, not the Northwestern Pakistanis. The U.S. knows that they do not want to make the Pakistani walking-on-eggshells forces declare war in U.S. areas of Afghanistan fighting Taliban cells.

The world will end, IMHO, if Pakistan is not treated (behind the scenes by the quasi-intelligent) as the first and foremost priority in the Middle East.

This is true, and it's not something a lot of people are aware of. I don't know about actual bases though, it's mostly individual/small groups of SF running around with the local nationals from what I've seen.

Interesting facts about Pakistan.

It is called the “Islamic Republic of Pakistan”.

Its a Federal Republic.

Parliament elects the President (Executive), the Executive appoints the Judiciary, and the Legislative is elected by provincial assemblies. (no idea who elects the assemblies)

In Oct. 1999 Musharaff took control of the country and suspended the constitution in a military coup. Since then, the government has strengthened executive power electing Musharaff in for five years.

Wrong thread :P

Yeah, some of these threads have been cross-mingling this week. Fuck it, I’m not a moderator.I do not envy them either, especially with people like you (and me) posting.

I think that what Warriorbird was saying was that Bin Laden is not in Pakistan. He's in Afghanistan. I'm not sure about that, though. These threads have had so many twists and turns they look like pretzels! :D

Yes, we do have people in Pakistan. There is a pretty large contingent on the border with Iraq. They are the ones who control what get's shiped into Iraq through official transport. I personally think it would be a mistake to do anything in Pakistan without the Pakistani governments approval since a majority of our support in northern Iraq is driven in by Pakistanis. If we lose them, then we are going to have to deploy a lot more transportation units as well as hiring civilian contractor truck drivers to move logistical supplies throughout the country. Might cut down on all the illegal alcohol being distributed throughout the country though. I mean, has anyone smelled that "Royal Horse" Scotch? I had to destroy over 4500 bottles of it, and I feel I did the world justice by doing so. The smell of it is enough to make you gag.

Since when does Iraq even come close to bordering Pakistan.

P.s. We didn't get our alcohol from the truck drivers. Might want to recheck your intel there hoss.

More that I think he is there...but we haven't caught him for certain reasons (IE...they're "helping."),
