Looks like wherever you cut & pasted this from had a link where RECORDS & REFERENCES was.

Next time try to either link the article and share your own thoughts, or perhaps avoid the political folder altogether.

Most of these involving money are stupid. Because of inflation, most of them will just be broken by the next president.

Its funny how people refuse to accept the truth.

The truth is that anyone could make a list like this full of half truths (and flat out false statements) about any politician. You're obviously blindly against this guy, so I'm not surprised by your response.

<< 1. I attacked and took over two countries. (Barely) >>

Not true. We didn't take over Afghanistan or Iraq. There were elections in both countries.

One could make a case for Iraq (that I'd disagree with), but not Afghanistan.

As for the others, there are like 10 involving money that the next president will break simply because of inflation and how much money the government has nowadays. Clinton probably held most of those records as well, and Bush Sr. before him.

<< 38. I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack ( and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1).

39. I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government. >>

Those two are fucking hysterical. Not surprised you're championing them, Backlash. Way to be you.

The list is a joke, you're a joke, the end.

Very true. The warlords pretty much control Afghanistan. In any case, invading Afghanistan was actually one of the few things Dubya has done that was correct. Taking out the Taliban and Al-Quaeda had, and has, my full support. If only he had stayed with it instead of moving to Iraq we might have bin Laden by now.

Where to begin?

So much of this list is conjecture, exaggeration and fabrication. You could make a list like this for almost any world leader if you were that rabidly fixed against them.

If you're going to claim historical firsts - do yourself a favor and actually study the history involved.

'Worst energy crisis,' for example - apparently someone wasn't around for the Carter administration and those fun 'odd' and 'even' gas days.

And if you've got a real point to make, stick with the truths and stop piling on bullshit that only dilutes the entire argument.

The 7-day yield of the Paypal Money Market Fund has been steadily increasing over the last 8 weeks. I've watched it rise from 4.51% to a current 4.69%. This is a reflection of the economy as a whole. The United States economy is recovering from less than desirable conditions, and some great results are anticipated in the coming years. There is certainly an improvement taking place; I don't see how anyone could claim that our nation is bankrupt or even faltering.

As a follow-up, I just looked into the #2 accomplishment listed and neglected to realize that Bush, the President, has no spending power: Congress, though, does.

Very true, and yet something that escapes many here.

And yet the argument can be made that: Republican controlled congress with the party leader being Bush; however, quite the opposite theory is offered when the President chooses to impose his Executive Powers instead of going through Congress.

I know, its the perforated Constitution.. just rip out what doesnt fit your ideals! :eureka:

One key to keep in mind when looking at the economy.

The latest inflation numbers were up, partly due to the sustained increase in gas pricing that has started influencing retailers to pass through increase in production/distribution costs along to the consumers.

Short run inflation cost increases are usually absorbed by the retailer/distributer/producer.

With sustained inflation, you'll see the Fed start bumping up interest rates more to curb it, which means less borrowing (commercial and residential), which in turn affects employment, growth, etc. Conversely you'll see more saving and a reduction in the M1 supply as people cut back on spending and put their money in the bank.

The hardest part is having our economy get used to the higher prices in petrolium until viable and affordable substitutes can be found in the marketplace, thus reducing demand, thus lowering price.

People usually differ on what means a booming economy. Does it mean more money in the bank and less overall spending? Or does it mean more spending/borrowing and less money in the bank?

The correct answer is more spending/borrowing and less saving (not meaning elimination of savings completely). Why? Because if consumers spend, it means more money for businesses to expand, grow, hire more people, etc... its called investment (K). If people dont spend, neither will businesses, which can mean less jobs... its a viscious cycle. Thats why Republicans like to give tax cuts... to increase the propensity to spend to keep the economy 'greased'. Republicans also prefer to moderate the economy through the Fed, not through fiscal policy (taxation) which penalizes the taxpayer.

What, are you jealous because I have the capacity to know just as much about a subject as anyone else and simultaneously be younger?

Raising interest rates don't neccessarily mean a booming economy.

I don't post as much as I used to if you meant me. I've doubled up my workout regime, which means less time, though I get some on the weekends. Like Daniel mentioned, raising interest rates don't necessarily reflect positive economic growth. In fact, they can indicate the opposite; making any kind of generalization about why rates are raised is dangerous. It's case by case, hike by hike and can seem counter-intuitive, which is why people historically paid close attention to Greenspan's mannerisms when he spoke.

It's been predicted that the fed will cap interest rates soon, but by the same token, people can (and do) make the argument for stag flation under the current model. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
