Newly dyed hair + bored me = bad pictures for you.

I own a t-shirt exactly like that one. I think I got it on Star Tours at Disney about twenty years ago.

Well, I'm bored enough to contribute with my own sorry mug =p

For those who are curious, I play Exitialis in Prime and Sivazte in Plat.

Lot of pretty cool peoples here. Glad to see the community has come together a bit more in the years since I last played the game. When I left before, the closest thing to an unofficial board was the spiel that was Bel's BBS, and anyone who was around to remember that catastrophe knows that it was.. well a catastrophe.

Anyhow, carry on =)

Rune
06-30-2006, 05:15 PM
I never really looked at the picture that close... I guess I do look like an Emo kid. Oh well, there are worse things to resemble, I suppose.

And about the community thing, it's not necessarily that you all get along, but that it's more like a big family. You got the ones that are cool with each other, the ones that people can't stand, the black sheep and so on, and everyone just sort of accepts that.

Wezas

Killer Kitten
07-04-2006, 12:59 AM
So the other night I happened to walk by this carrier in Medical and this tiny tortoise shell colored arm comes flailing out the front and snags my jeans. I bend down to untangle myself and happen to see the tag fastened to the top of the carrier, which reads ENF. This is shorthand for Euthanize, No Foster (home available).

I peek inside the carrier and find a four week old tortie kitten and her lovely petite white mother, who promptly nudges against my fingers and purrs. I hate nuking nice cats because we're out of cage space. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Gods, why won't people spay and neuter their damned pets?

Anyway, mom and kitten are currently residing in what used to be my crafts room. I'll hold them until Kitten is 8 weeks old, then enter them legitimately through the foster program.

I'm such a sucker for a tortie, and how could I take the baby and leave her mommy to be killed?

Last one is a church in Qara Qush one of the christian towns in my AO, its about 40-60k from Mosul. Mosul as a whole is a pretty diverse area compared to the rest of iraq, since it has a large population of just about every religion in the country form Shia to Yazitti's <SP?> (they are pretty weird)

thats all i have on this thumb drive if the response to me posting again isnt to over the top ill put some more up when i have time.

Depends, Daniel. Do you like people? Cause people'll want to know you/touch you/possibly fuck you.

Do you like general, vague assignments with an overarching goal and very little actual tools to implementing them?

Do you like being frustrated at the open-endedness of it all, and feeling, on a daily basis that if things were just a *little* more efficient, everything would be okay?

and, on the other hand....

Do you like being a member of a community that actually cares for you and looks out for you?

Do you want to go somewhere you'll probably never ever go otherwise? Meet people who you probably wouldn't meet otherwise? Have experiences you'd never have otherwise? Form friendships from those? And not have to do it in a soldier's uniform (no offense - but I imagine the uni kind of creates a barrier between the average soldier and the average person on the street).

We joke in the Peace Corps that we're the ones really protecting the States....cause we have to act as ambassadors to the world whose only image of the US is from world news, and...currently, not so great.

Be forewarned though: almost every single Peace Corps volunteer is a liberal, ranging from a moderate-left Democrat to fucking crazy Greenpeace blow-up-your-SUV type liberal.

And then there's the odd Republican trying to pad his/her resume for international experience, but they usually don't last long.

As they say, "It's the toughest job you'll ever love."

The only real deal breaker for me about the Peace corps is that they operate in only "safe" areas and I want to get into the field of post conflict reconstruction and conflict prevention. Which means not being in particuarly safe areas. Everything you mentioned as a benefit is pretty much what I got out of the military and you'd be surprised at how receptive people are to american's around the world. (Not to say there isn't animosity, but its not as some people make it out to be..look at the blowing up your suv liberals here.)

All of that said, it would merely be a resume builder because the field I want to get into requires a certain amount of over seas experience and the PC is the only sure fire way to get it. I'm still looking around, but we'll see how things go. What would you say is the thing that breaks alot of the people in it? For me, it would probably be the inefficiency part, but I was in the military so I might be able to deal. As for the liberals... I go to American University.... I think I can handle..

TheEschaton
07-31-2006, 04:33 PM
Isolation. Especially coming from a military background where you're constantly surrounded with other Americans and your whole battalion or whatever the hell it's called, but for me, not having another American around for two years made me go stir crazy.

I imagine it must be what emo's feel like, except, in this case, no one literally understands you. You might as well be a fucking alien.

I know people who've come out of the deep bush talking to themselves, etc.

Anyways - if you want to do "dangerous" type things, you might have to do it yourself, as no volunteer agency in charge of its volunteers' health is going to put them in harms way. PC Nepal withdrew, PC Uzbekistan withdrew, hell, PC China withdrew because of SARS. The only other option, I guess, would be to take the Foreign Service exam, and work in an embassy, but I'm sure they would start you off light, IE, the Embassy in Palau, as opposed to in Somolia.

The State department can blow me. Just as an example why, I was at the State Department aweek or so ago and got to talk with the person in charge of the Taskforce on Lebanon and when asked what we were gonna do about the situation, the response was "Well, the Lebanese have an Army so its up to them to resolve the issue". uh...no thanks. I'd get fired so quick working for people like that.

There are organizations that work in those areas, the trick is finding the right person that will send me. Iono, we'll see how things work out. I think I'm gonna try and get an entry level job at either Chemonics or the WB and see how things go.

I think I can deal with the Isolation of the PC. I was a scout so I didn't have 5,000 people around me at all times and I've always been an introvert anyway.

So, got bored tonight with the hubby out of town fishing...so drove my ass to the mall and got a makeover at MAC's. I told them to "slut me up" and this is the outcome.

Its nice and dramatic and if I can reproduce this look without the help of a professional makeup artist, it will be a miracle. I don't think I've worn this much eyemakeup all at once in my LIFE.

This first one...I think I have glitter on my face, hence the white spot next to my nose, who knows.
