Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

29 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

That's amazing. I want to know how these people get elected, really. I mean dosen't everyone's criminal record become public when they go into office?

If I knew my congressman did anything like that, I don't care who it was, I'd vote for the other guy.

Although the accusations aren't worth it. People accuse other people for all kinds of reasons.

I've seen that before PB, but I forget where. It made me chuckle, still did when you posted it. :P

I’m not at all surprised. I’ll bet the stats on the clergy are worse.

That actually surprises me.

21 seems low.

Most politicians are the biggest and *best* crooks around. That will never change.

Its amazing what a little money, favorable press, and vigorous press bias will get you now days.

Wonder what would happen if you forbid participation in congress from lawyers... and clergy. :!:

And imposed single term limits.

I accidently read my first politics topic on these boards EVAR. I blame you Falgrin.

84 drunk drivers in the last year? WTF? 1/6th of them? They were probably caught speeding to court to give themselves another raise or something.

The sad thing is a member of congress is immune from speeding citations if they are travelling back to DC to be 'in session'.

I'm sure there are other instances where they have loopholes within the normal constraints of the law, I'm just not that familiar with the rest.

That's a lot of times to be pulled over on the interstate for pushing a buck, ten.

I'd figure they'd be safer going slightly over the limit in the right lane like everyone else.

I remember reading this several years ago so i figured it couldnt be right still with how often new members get elected.

Well, the president was the first President to be elected who had a criminal record.;)

So, they're in good company!
