Here's what to know about the anticipated fallout from the tariffs:
How sweeping are the tariffs?
All goods imported from Canada and Mexico will be subject to a 25 percent tariff, except Canadian energy products, which will face a 10 percent tariff, according to the executive orders. The orders also placed a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods.
The auto and electric equipment sectors in Mexico are most exposed to disruption from sweeping tariffs, as is mineral processing in Canada, according to economists at S&P Global. In the United States, the largest risks are to farming, fishing, metal and auto production.
What should consumers expect?
Some companies may try to pass the cost on to their customers by raising prices. Others may opt to eat the cost of the tariff. Companies may also try to force foreign suppliers to bear the burden by negotiating lower prices for their products.
When Mr. Trump imposed tariffs on China during his first term, economic studies found that most of those costs were passed on to American consumers — a scenario that is likely to play out once again. That could mean higher prices in grocery aisles, at car dealerships and at the pump.

It's not looking good..
Stock futures were plunging on Sunday evening as investors braced for global market volatility after the U.S. triggered a trade war between its closest neighbors and largest trading partners over the weekend.

You would think, but they're so stupid that they're literally saying "Trump caved lol" unironically.
Back and/or ClydeR should be along at any moment to say the same thing.
This does not disprove the fact that those tariffs would hurt the average American economically. The pres even said so himself.
I'm glad they found a solution. Ironically we can thank president Sheinbaum for keeping the price of avocados and tequila from going up.

Well if the press aka MSNBC said so, it HAS to be true!
If you haven’t figured out the pattern yet, Trump uses tariffs as a diplomatic negotiation tool with our allies to secure a better deal.

"BUT THE TARIFFS WILL CAUSE US PRICES TO GO UP!!!!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!! THE ONLY WAY IT IS ACCEPTABLE IS WHEN THE US GOVT SPENDS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY ON NONSENSE, WHICH CAUSES INFLATION! THAT IS ACCEPTABLE!" -Backlash 2025

Now you're getting it! Almost as if it was always up to Mexico to avoid these tariffs and it would indeed have been Mexico's fault if the tariffs took effect. But you're such an idiot you would blame Trump for tariffs going through and credit Mexico when the tariffs ended.

Tariffs were what brought her to the negotiating table because she knew that would hurt Mexico way more than it would hurt the US. That was literally Trump's objective, and now Mexico is sending 10k troops to their border to lock shit down, and tariffs are paused as a result while they work out a deal that will likely be beneficial for both countries.

We'll get to see a trial of it in action. Canada is choosing to "go to war" and get into a tit for tat with the US, while Mexico is choosing to work with the US.
Let's see what happens.

And that literally took an hour... before Canada capitulated. Trudeau posted on X that they are meeting Trump's demands.
You can now relax, Backlash and cLyDeR.. this is what happens when you have effective leadership in the White House.

How does Mexico's troop surge differ from the surge they undertook in 2021 at Biden's request, without tariff threats, except that this time the U.S. agreed to stop illegal gun smuggling from the U.S. into Mexico?
Article from 2021..
WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - Mexico has doubled its detentions of migrants with a deployment of 10,000 troops to its southern border, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Monday, as Washington leans on regional governments to help slow arrivals at the U.S. border.

Trump said that Canada could get out of the tariffs by becoming the 51st state, something I previously said would be a great idea. But it seems that Canadians did not find Trump's courtship methods to be persuasive. Canada was never very likely to agree to become the 51st state. Now it's even less likely.
Canadian hockey and basketball fans are booing the U.S. national anthem at games. Liquor stores in Ontario are taking American booze off their shelves. Do you know what it takes to make Canadians this mad at you?

He's "killing the chicken to scare the monkey" with these tariffs. Its not about Canada and Mexico directly, its about the Chinese influence on these countries and how they are being used to funnel Chinese goods into the US from these two countries to bypass the Tariffs and regulations on Chinese goods. He is reminding them that we know they've been getting away with it for too long and it needs to change.
