View Full Version : What about the price of eggs?
I'm seeing regular plain old caged non-organic basic 1 dozen eggs at $6.99 in the DMV. In fact, the cage-free organic eggs by specialty farms is $5.99. Basic egg prices are up past the fancy egg prices. There is a sign in our supermarket that states the bird flu is causing it.
What are egg prices like in your area?
Why hasn't Trump lowered those prices yet?

In my area, the grocery store brand eggs are 10.97 for a flat of 30 eggs. Yes, killing off millions of birds because they might have been exposed has driven prices. Also, the cost of other proteins has not helped as eggs are still cheaper per ounce for those restricting carbs.

I wish you had this same level of impatience when Biden was in office. It is the start of week 2. Unfortunately there is an avian flu impacting the cost of eggs + Biden did a lot of damage with unchecked government spending & his war against fossil fuels. Reducing the cost of eggs will take time.

Chickens take from 5-6 months from hatch day to making eggs. The producers of baby chickens can only raise so many baby chickens in a short period of time, it's not like they can magically make more fertile, egg laying chickens to make baby chickens overnight. Millions of baby chickens are hatched every day, problem is, they aren't the good egg laying chickens, they are Cornish Cross chickens for making meat in 58 days. While they may lay eggs, they aren't well suited for it and by the time they get to egg laying age, they are likely incapable of walking from a nesting box to a feed trough or dead from a health problem since they grow so fast.
People that aren't clueless about how food production know that it isn't an instant turn around business. You can't just order more food to be grown and poof, it happen. I would say something about you stopping being retarded but we both know you can't do that.

Hey they have access to the most wealthy and successful people in the world. They can't figure out a way to make egg prices less? They're super eager to build some AI with a trillion dollars but no one's thought about flying in some eggs from somewhere? Bailing out the egg farmers? And not one word about researching ways to prevent avian flu in fact those geniuses pulled us out of the WHO and cut off sharing information from our health departments.
I'll tell you why... Do you think Elon and Trump and those guys can't get any eggs? Do you think they can't afford those eggs? No of course they can. The price of eggs affects people in middle and lower incomes. That's why they don't give a f***, brother!

Hey they have access to the most wealthy and successful people in the world. They can't figure out a way to make egg prices less?
Sure they do. Grow more chickens to lay more eggs. But that takes time. Seriously, you ARE a grown ass adult right? Why is it Democrats such as yourself need the very basics of everything explained to you in detail?
"Duhh....why does more expensive gas make grocery prices go up?" Because higher production costs = higher food prices.
"But...duhhh.....why can't we just magically create more eggs?" Because chickens are still being culled to stop the spread of the bird flu. Chickens lay eggs. Fewer chickens laying eggs = fewer eggs. Fewer eggs = higher prices. It takes time to raise chickens to get them to be good egg laying chickens.
Tell you what, Back, if AFTER the bird flu has passed (which might take days, weeks, or even months) and a year afterwards egg prices is still absurdly high, THEN you might have a point. Until then you're just a fucking idiot who sees nothing wrong with food prices skyrocketing under a Democrat, but you expect food prices to magically drop in less than a week after a Republican is sworn in.
It's not global and prices vary from state to state, country to country. If they really wanted to do something about it they would.

Hey how about that. Almost as if in areas where there has been an outbreak of bird flu the farmers have had to cull (you do know "cull" means "kill" right?) their chickens to prevent the spread of bird flu, which would affect the local prices of eggs, and in areas where there hasn't been an outbreak of bird flu they haven't had to cull chickens so egg prices haven't changed much.
Weird how that works.

If it's so easy then why do you need Bezos to do it? Just buy them yourself.
Eggs have a limited shelf life, they can't sit in an Amazon warehouse for days or weeks until someone buys them. Plus they are very fragile. Most exported eggs are to neighboring countries, they don't fly half way across the world because it costs money to ship shit that far.
Again you really think some random dude in India is growing eggs and selling them at competitive prices in your local supermarket don't you?

If the pen factories all got shut down for faulty equipment that took 5-6 months to replace, your pen cost would start to go up due to scarcity. Same thing with chickens. They have had to kill 20 million chickens (up 7 million in less than a week) just since this current outbreak started. This is the worst outbreak we've ever had as far as chickens being infected. Prices are going to be up and they are going to keep going up as they have to kill more and more chickens.

Eggs can cost a $1 for a dozen and still be outrageously priced if wages don't support it. We had 4 years of Bidenomics where inflation blew out wages. Eggs cost more now relative to total wages because of Biden.
4 years of Trump will improve wages and then even if eggs are $10 a dozen, so long as wages outpace inflation, they'll be cheaper.

Avian flu has now again spread to cows. The last time that happened it spread to and killed a human. Has anyone seen anything about this administration doing anything about it?
First of all, why didn't you mention the last time a human was killed by the bird flu? Is it because it was while Biden was president? (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cows-bird-flu-d11-symptoms/)
That bird flu strain, called D1.1 by scientists, was also linked to a fatal human case in Louisiana last year after exposure to sick birds.
Also why didn't you mention the last instance of a human being infected by a cow was almost a year ago, again is it because it was while Biden was president? (https://www.cdc.gov/bird-flu/situation-summary/mammals.html)
Also according to the same link cows have been getting infected since 2022. What did Biden do for 2 years while he was president to stop all of this?
Why are you just now pretending to be worried about the bird flu and you have kept quiet about it for 2+ years?
Why do you fail at seemingly everything you do?

Well, Biden actually did do something. During his administration he increased funding to study it and to be prepared in case it started blowing up.
The current administration has halted all information sharing with the agencies who deal with these things.

Traditionally, "compromise" has meant "conservatives give the Leftist some concession in exchange for an empty promise to consider looking at maybe doing something inconsequential at some future date.
Under Biden, there is no compromise, there is no working together for anything, not even lip service, there is simply "Do what the Left wants or go to jail, lose your job, have your kids chemically and surgically sterilized and mutilated, lock yourself in your home or be arrested, and so on."
The list goes on. I have lost promotions due to DEI. Yes, I had conversations with those in the know to prove it. My money is worth 20% less than it was a few years ago and I pay more in taxes to get less. Simply put, I and many others are tired of being trampled because we tried to play nice and take the high road. The modern Left can dive off a cliff for all I care and depending, I will give them a push. The moment you thought calling everyone a Nazi, racist, biggot and so on when we objected to racism in schools and creepy men in girsl bathrooms, you lost all chance at compromise.
There are plenty I might work with, they are not in the Democrat party and they are not part of the modern Leftist scum but they are not conservatives so yeah, I might work with them. Do you no longer believe in compromise?
Compromise, lol.
You fuckers spent 2+ years forcing people out of their jobs and making them stay home and forcing them to get a vaccine they didn't want.
You fuckers spent 8+ years ruining people's lives and getting them fired from their jobs because they dared to disagree with you.
You fuckers spent 4 years cheering on a corrupt Biden administration as they went after their political foes and arrested people for who they supported and voted for.
Now you fuckers want to talk about compromise? Shut the fuck up, and watch as Trump fixes all of Biden's messes and all you can do is whine that "it's not fair!"

I find it odd that egg prices seem....wonky.
The generic store brands are upwards of $7.50 for a dozen.
The name brands and free ranged egg prices are between $4-5 a dozen, prices they have been for the past 12+ months. Why are the "cheap" eggs now 67% more expensive than what used to be the expensive eggs?

It's due to JIT inventory management, long term contracts and what's called "Loss Leaders." Lots of store brands try to buy only as much as they need and don't keep much stock in the supply line so they can adjust prices and keep profitable on a narrower margin. So, their prices adjust faster. Large store chains contract for ridiculous amounts of goods over years and lock in prices with slower price variation. Also, lots of stores and brands price things as "Loss Leaders". This means, they sell something at below cost in order to keep you buying their brand or coming into their store. Sam's and Costco are champions in this with their rotisserie chickens and hotdog meals. They lose money on each sale of those but those items keep you coming into the store and keep you happy so they make more money over all.

I'm not gonna bother going back to check, but there's a 99% chance that just 4 years ago you were like, "You lost get over it" and now suddenly you're pretending to be all about "compromise."
Everything Trump is currently doing is what people voted for him to do. Everything he's doing right now he said he was going to do at most if not every campaign rally leading up to the election. And then he won the election. By a lot. Including the popular vote.
The compromise is that you retards can still go cry in your Pedosky echo chamber and virtue signal up each others' asses because you can't handle the reality of the world slowly being restored back to normalcy while pretending that you just want everyone to "compromise" now. There was no "compromise" over the past 4 years.
The majority of the country said fuck all that shit in November, and that you can go eat a bag of dicks. So go eat a bag of dicks with your "compromise" and stop being a pussy.
EDIT: Trump's at 70% approval rating today

100,000 eggs stolen from truck as prices surge nationwide, police say
Feb. 5, 2025 at 1:15 pm
By Natalie Demaree
McClatchy News
Thousands of eggs were stolen from a truck in Pennsylvania, police said. The theft comes as egg prices continue to increase to record-high levels.
Pennsylvania State Police responded to the theft report just after 8:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in Chambersburg, according to a report.
Approximately 100,000 eggs — worth about $40,000 in retail value — were taken from the back of a Pete & Gerry’s distribution trailer, police said.

People steal them because they are worth more than the soon to be discontinued pennies and nickels that you've been avidly reporting on. Please keep us updated on if these massive thefts are solved.
Even as egg production recovered in 2023, prices did not come down. Between April and December 2023, national retail inventories of eggs each month exceeded the five-year average by as much as almost 13%. Yet the average egg price for consumers was higher than the five-year average each month.
In one case, the country’s largest egg producer, Cal-Maine, boasted a sevenfold increase in gross profits in fiscal year 2023 compared with 2021, after increasing prices above rising costs – and despite its flocks not being affected by avian flu during that period.
Cal-Maine, which produces one in every five eggs eaten in the US, issued shareholder dividends totaling $250m in fiscal year 2023 – 40 times more than the previous fiscal year. The Mississippi-based company sold 7% more eggs in 2024 compared with 2021 and tripled its profits over the same period, according to company filings.

So you're saying Biden did nothing about this obvious price gouging while he was president? What a failure!
Also whoever wrote that obviously doesn't understand even the very basics of economics: supply and demand. Just because Cal-Maine wasn't affected by the avian flu doesn't mean anything, they are going to sell their eggs for more money because the demand is there and the supply is lower because OTHER farms had to kill hundreds of millions of chickens because the government made them. Companies don't sell their products for less money just because they themselves don't have a supply issue, they sell their product for more because the market as a whole has a supply issue.
And lastly, talk about spinning a narrative based on selective facts. National retail inventories in 2023 exceeded the five-year average by 13%? Why the hell is he talking about the five year average instead of comparing egg inventories in 2023 to egg inventories before the government made farms kill hundreds of millions of chickens?
Look how easy this bit of information can mislead you.
2019: 100 million eggs in inventory
2020: 100 million
2021: 30 million
2022: 20 million
2023: 70 million
5 year average: 64 million
ZOMG! Egg inventories in 2023 were almost 10% higher than the five-year average, despite the fact that egg inventories in 2023 are still lower than they were in 2020.
Those aren't the real numbers, I just made them up to prove a point. Fake news articles are fake news. Maybe egg companies are ripping off consumers because they see no reason to lower prices since people are willing to pay these higher prices, but bullshit articles like this don't help the situation.

With Easter fast approaching, the Trump egg crisis is becoming critical. Will Trump's questionable plan avert an Easter catastrophe?
Amid a record-breaking outbreak of avian flu that’s decimated egg production across the country, the cost of eggs has skyrocketed. Nationwide, a dozen eggs sold for $4.95 on average in January, up from $2.52 last year.
Trump’s solution? To import 70 million–100 million perishable and fragile eggs from other countries within the next month. The plan is as foolproof as it sounds.

Trump is on social media telling people to shut up (https://bsky.app/profile/rpsagainsttrump.bsky.social/post/3ljvq7ewyg22p) about egg prices. In what appears t be a coordinated change of message, Trump's Treasury Secretary says people should live the American Dream, instead of pining for "cheap goods."
WASHINGTON - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday defended President Donald Trump’s assertive stance on tariffs, arguing that "access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American Dream.”
His comments come after Trump had imposed steep 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada earlier this week. Trump then took executive action delaying new tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico that fell under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement for one month.

DOJ investigating major egg producers amid soaring prices: Sources (https://abc7ny.com/post/donald-trump-egg-prices-department-justice-investigating-major-producers-amid-soaring-price-eggs-sources-say/15993118/)
WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department is in the early stages of investigating the major egg producers over soaring egg prices, source familiar with the matter told ABC News
Department investigators are looking into whether the major egg companies are sharing information about supply and pricing, possibly contributing to price increases, the sources said. Egg producers, including the industry's trade association, have said the soaring prices are due to the avian flu.
The investigation is being run out of the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department and won't necessarily lead to any legal action.
Farm Action, a farm advocacy organization that has publicly called on officials to open an antitrust case, said in a statement on Friday citing sources at DOJ that the agency had started an investigation.
"We applaud the Department of Justice's action to address the skyrocketing price of eggs," it said. "Every American has felt the financial pain caused by the power of the monopolistic egg industry.
"While avian flu is real, it is no excuse for the price being charged at the grocery store for one of the country's staples," it added. "While Farm Action's analysis demonstrates likely antitrust abuses by the dominant egg-producing corporations, the DOJ has the legal authority to take the deep dive into the industry that is required to get to the bottom of this abuse, and they have the power to bring justice on behalf of the American people."
Good on them. Hopefully something comes of it.

Abstract
We investigate the possible laboratory origins of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b genotype B3.13, currently affecting various animal species and causing sporadic human infections. The proximal origins may be the USDA Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) in Athens, Georgia, and the Erasmus medical center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Almost like if you create something and then force people to cull their entire stock of chickens the prices of eggs will go up. Instead of doing what farmers have done throughout history and letting the disease run its course and then breed the survivors who have stronger natural immunity.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick gave crazed answers on Meet the Press this morning. I doubt he'll still be Commerce Secretary by the end of this year. Among other crazy things, he said..
"Biden just killing chickens, trying to worry about things. It's crazy the way eggs have gone up 200%. Donald Trump's going to bring the price of eggs down now."
Trump will force Europeans to buy more agricultural products from the U.S., and that will, somehow, lower the cost of groceries in the U.S. Explain that to me.
There will be no economic recessions while Trump is President. Somebody save the tape.
Agriculture is an industry. How can the Commerce Secretary not know better?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqpZLwXKCmI
KRISTEN WELKER:
All right. You take me right to my next question. I want to play you something that President Trump said to me back in December. Take a listen.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP:
I won on groceries. It's a very simple word: groceries. Like, almost, you know, who uses the word? I started using the word, “the groceries.” When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they were double and triple the price over a short period of time. And I won an election based on that. We're going to bring those prices way down.
[END TAPE]
KRISTEN WELKER:
Mr. Secretary, can you be specific? When exactly can Americans expect to see those prices come “way down?”
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
Egg prices up 200% under Biden. [B]Biden just killing chickens, trying to worry about things. It's crazy the way eggs have gone up 200%. Donald Trump's going to bring the price of eggs down now. Donald Trump's tariffs are – here's the idea. All these other countries, like India for instance, when Modi was in town, right? 1.4 billion people and they won't buy a bushel of our corn.
KRISTEN WELKER:
But–
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
Europe, always blocking our farmers. As our farmers can sell more and more overseas–
KRISTEN WELKER:
But–
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
– you're going to see the price of food in America–
KRISTEN WELKER:
When?
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
– come down. It's a volume thing.
KRISTEN WELKER:
When, Mr. Secretary?
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
Well, I think the deal starts –
KRISTEN WELKER:
Months?
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
–the deal starts April 2nd. The deal starts April 2nd of reciprocal tariffs. The president is going to negotiate country-by-country. He's going to drive down other countries' barriers, unleashing our farmers, our ranchers and our fishermen. They're going to explode in value and the prices of American produce, road crops, produce and fish are going to come down because our American industries are going to win around the world because finally, finally Donald Trump is behind them, protecting them. He's got their back and he's going to make them winners. And then all of America's going to be winners because these prices are coming down. And the process–
KRISTEN WELKER:
Alright.
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
–starts April 2nd.
KRISTEN WELKER:
Alright, Mr. Secretary, consumer sentiment is dropping, inflation has ticked up, major banks like J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs now say a recession in the next 12-months is becoming more likely. Should Americans brace for a recession?
SEC. HOWARD LUTNICK:
Absolutely not. Anybody who bets against Donald Trump. It's like the same people who thought Donald Trump wasn't a winner a year ago. Donald Trump is a winner. He's going to win for the American people. That's just the way it's going to be. There's going to be no recession in America. What there's going to be is global tariffs are going to come down because President Trump has said, “You want to charge us 100%? We're going to charge you 100%.” You know what they say? They say, “No, no, no, no, no, don't charge us 100%. We'll bring ours down.” We'll unleash America out to the world. Grow our economy in a way we've never grown before. You are going to see over the next two years the greatest set of growth coming from America as Americans. You saw it, 1.3 trillion of new investment coming into America that – think of all those jobs, and remember, each trillion of investment in America is 1% of growth GDP. So, Donald Trump is bringing growth to America. I would never bet on recession. No chance.

USDA Invests Up To $1 Billion to Combat Avian Flu and Reduce Egg Prices (http://USDA Invests Up To $1 Billion to Combat Avian Flu and Reduce Egg Prices)
USDA’s Five-Pronged Approach to Address Avian Flu
Invest in Gold-Standard Biosecurity Measures for all U.S. Poultry Producers
USDA will expand its highly successful Wildlife Biosecurity Assessments to producers across the nation, beginning with egg-layer facilities, to safeguard farms from the cause of 83% of HPAI cases: transmission from wild birds. These additional safety measures have proven to minimize flu cases; the approximately 150 facilities that follow these protocols have had only one outbreak.
Biosecurity audits will be expanded. Free biosecurity audits will continue for all HPAI-affected farms. Shortcomings for HPAI-affected farms must be addressed to remain eligible for indemnification for future infections within this outbreak. Biosecurity audits will be encouraged and made available to surrounding, non-affected farms.
USDA will deploy 20 trained epidemiologists as part of its increased biosecurity audits and Wildlife Biosecurity Assessments to provide actionable and timely advice to producers on how to reduce HPAI risk at their facilities. These experts will help improve current biosecurity measures to focus on protecting against spread through wild birds in addition to lateral spread.
USDA will share up to 75% of the costs to fix the highest risk biosecurity concerns identified by the assessments and audits, with a total available investment of up to $500 million.
Increase Relief to Aid Farmers and Accelerate Repopulation
APHIS will continue to indemnify producers whose flocks must be depopulated to control the further spread of HPAI.
New programs are being explored to aid farmers to accelerate the rate of repopulation, including ways to simplify the approval process to speed recovery.
Up to $400 million will be available to support these costs for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Remove Unnecessary Regulatory Burdens on the Chicken and Egg Industry to Further Innovation and Reduce Consumer Prices
USDA is working alongside our partners at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to examine strategies to safely expand supply in the commercial market for eggs.
USDA will minimize burdens on individual farmers and consumers who harvest homegrown eggs.
USDA will work with farmers and scientists to develop innovative strategies to limit the extent of depopulations in HPAI outbreaks.
USDA will educate consumers and Congress on the need to fix the problem of geographical price differences for eggs, such as in California, where recent regulatory burdens, in addition to avian flu, have resulted in the price of eggs being 60% higher than other regions of the country.
Explore Pathways toward Vaccines, Therapeutics, and Other Strategies for Protecting Egg Laying Chickens to Reduce Instances of Depopulation
USDA will be hyper-focused on a targeted and thoughtful strategy for potential new generation vaccines, therapeutics, and other innovative solutions to minimize depopulation of egg laying chickens along with increased bio-surveillance and other innovative solutions targeted at egg laying chickens in and around outbreaks. Up to a $100 million investment will be available for innovation in this area.
Importantly, USDA will work with trading partners to limit impacts to export trade markets from potential vaccination. Additionally, USDA will work alongside the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure the public health and safety of any such approaches include considerations of tradeoffs between public health and infectious disease strategy.
USDA will solicit public input on solutions, and will involve Governors, State Departments of Agriculture, state veterinarians, and poultry and dairy farmers on vaccine and therapeutics strategy, logistics, and surveillance. USDA will immediately begin holding biweekly discussions on this and will also brief the public on its progress biweekly until further notice.
Consider Temporary Import-Export Options to Reduce Costs on Consumers and Evaluate International Best Practices
USDA will explore options for temporarily increasing egg imports and decreasing exports, if applicable, to supplement the domestic supply, subject to safety reviews.
USDA will evaluate international best practices in egg production and safety to determine any opportunities to increase domestic supply.
Found this last night when I was looking at the issue again. Good for USDA under this administration. Looks like they are going to implement some ideas I had early in this thread.
Ultimately the American taxpayer pays for it. Taking money out of taxes that we already paid does not hurt as much as taking more money at the point of sale but someone better watch the egg producers to avoid any fraud going on.

You are the biggest clown I have ever come across in my whole life. It is truly a sight to behold. When people like Clyder and Seran are confronted with something indefensible that their party has done they at least try to change the subject or lie and claim that never happened or downplay it in some sense.
But not you. No you dive right in and say "Yeah it happened. So what?"
You literally asked why someone would be skeptical of the "expert" community. I pointed out the very real fact (very recent history at that, we're not talking 50+ years ago) that the so called "experts" told everyone they had to stay home and lose their jobs and education and home, but then turned around and said ignore all of that you can go out and do whatever you want as long as you're rioting or protesting for racial justice.
There is no defense to this. None. Don't give me this dumb shit of "Well they didn't know any better! It was a scary time!" Blah blah fucking blah blah blah! You don't create two sets of rules for people. You don't tell one group of people they have to stay 6 feet away from everyone or else they are going to kill someone's grandma then turn around and tell another group of people it's perfectly okay for them to congregate by the thousands.
There were not two sets of rules. That is a political construct.
Recommendations were made. People followed them or didn't. You had the freedom to follow them or not. You had just as much freedom to protest anything as much anyone else did.

Tell that to the truck drivers that participated in Canada’s Freedom Convoy, or gym owner Ian Smith in New Jersey who refused to close his business. Tell Gavin Newsom and Nancy Pelosi to follow their own lockdown rules.

Wow. So no leeway at all for the healthcare community, a community that America leads the world in by the way, in dealing with an unknown virus that was literally killing thousands of people a day? Way to hate on the American healthcare community's knowledge, innovation, and expertise with your 20/20 hindsight.
You sure do a lot of big pharma simping for a commie.
Almost everything the “healthcare community” told us was a lie. It was the elderly and infants that were by far most vulnerable. Masks were not effective. Social distancing, especially the shutdown of schools, was completely unnecessary. The Wuhan lab leak theory is the most probable cause of the outbreak and the so called healthcare community is likely responsible for the pandemic.

How about the business owners that defied the rules and opened up their business because they had no income with it closed and they got arrested?
How about the people that choose not to wear a mask and got arrested?
How about those that choose not to get an untested shot and were dismissed from their jobs?
How about those people that were arrested or fined for not "observing" social distancing?
Then you had all those people out protesting in giant groups and no one got arrested for being part of that group that defied social distancing, entering businesses without following social mandates, not wearing masks....there were no mass arrests for these people breaking the same rules. Don't confuse the arrests that were made against those that were breaking laws while rioting - these were arrests for arson, bodily harm (fighting and such), theft, damage to property, felony weapon possession and so on.
You really are that fucking stupid to think that nothing happened to those that didn't follow the "rules". Fucking twat.

The fuck there weren't. They were literally arresting people for attending church OUTSIDE. People had police sent to their homes to warn the parents not to let their children outside to play with other children with threat of arrest if it happened again. Meanwhile rioters and protesters were given a free pass. The fuck you talking about? Again this isn't ancient history, we're talking less than 5 years ago.

"Recommendation" to group A: You aren't allowed to work under threat of being arrested. You aren't allowed to attend church with threat of being arrested. You aren't allowed to open your private practice with threat of being arrested.
Recommendation to group B: Sure! Riot and protest your heart out! As long as it's for racial justice!

In America we don't need permission to protest. If people wanted to take the risk to protest during a pandemic it is on them not any political party. You had every right to go out and protest whatever you wanted during that time.
It was a scary time. It does not surprise me how much irrationality arose during the lockdowns. What surprises me is how easily politicians used it to divide us against each other.

From what I can find there were few cases of arrests involving not masking or not social distancing but they were tied to other violations such as trespassing, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest. Those are the exceptions and not the rule.

Police are arresting and fining people for violating social distancing orders (https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/31/us/violating-coronavirus-orders-trnd/index.html)
The pastor, who was arrested on Monday and charged with unlawful assembly and a violation of health emergency rules
On Tuesday, police in baton Rouge, Louisiana issued Pastor Tony Spell a misdemeanor summons for six counts of violating the governor’s executive order barring large gatherings.
In Lakewood, police broke up two separate weddings a day apart from each other. The wedding hosts, Shaul Kuperwasser and Eliyohu Zaks, were both charged with maintaining a nuisance for holding a wedding in violation of the emergency order prohibiting large gatherings.
Just days after the state enacted a stay-at-home order, another wedding host, Meir Gruskin, was charged after holding the gathering at his home on March 24.
The party host, Jacquon Jones, was charged with disorderly conduct for holding a large party in violation of the emergency order prohibiting large gatherings.
5 cases of people being arrested for violating social distancing rules in one news article with less than 20 seconds of looking for said cases.

From what I can find, there was no Holocaust in Nazi Germany. Sure there may have been a few arrests of Jews, but those people that were put in cattle carts had it coming! Those were the exceptions and not the rule. The Nazis also put communists, Catholics, and the mentally disabled into camps so clearly wasn’t about singling out the Jews. All those accounts about mass burials and gas chambers are greatly exaggerated.
None of the arsonists that were arrested for the Reichstag Fire were charged with being a Jew!

I'm glad you brought this up because I was going to mention it in response to your posts about the extreme examples of people being arrested during the pandemic. Those rare instances happened in both red and blue states.
In my experience our republican governor called for and enforced a lockdown in our state. I have nothing but respect for him for how he handled everything but I would never vote for him because of his stances on taxes, education, and women's rights.

Yep. So when we talk about those rare arrests during the COVID pandemic we are talking about it happening regardless of political party and locally not nationally.
PS. Masking and social distancing absolutely 100% prevented the COVID virus from spreading and causing death on an even more massive scale than what happened. In the United States, the peak daily death toll from COVID-19 was on January 12, 2021, with over 4,400 deaths reported on that day. This was the highest single-day number for the country during the pandemic.

Many commentators have claimed that a recently-updated Cochrane Review shows that 'masks don't work', which is an inaccurate and misleading interpretation.
That was clarified right when it happens. Unfortunately people keep pushing this crap on the internet so that someone like yourself can easily fall into the trap of believing it. Masks helped.
We can talk about their effectiveness when people did not want to wear them. We can talk about if the government can compel people to wear a masks in that situation or not. But the bottom line is is that a face covering will help prevent the airborne spread of any virus. Social distancing also will prevent people contracting a virus.
Again at the time no one knew what we were dealing with so everyone was overly cautious. I remember wearing gloves in the first few weeks of that whatever I went outside in case it was transmitted that way. Better to be safe than sorry.

That “better safe than sorry” attitude is how we the public allowed all the most damaging & ineffective mandates to happen. When we forced young kindergarten aged children to wear masks all day in the classroom, many didn’t consider the negative effects that has on early childhood education because public safety was the only paramount concern. We didn’t weigh the damage of distance learning and shutting down schools. We didn’t consider the damage social distancing had on people’s mental health. Everyone knew masks were ineffective at preventing the spread of this disease, but it became a tool of virtue signaling for idiots such as yourself.

At Cub Foods by my house, basic run of the mill eggs still priced at $8.49 a dozen when I went through the dairy aisle yesterday. Everywhere else, they're $6.99.
Then the organic and free range eggs are all still priced right around $5.99 a dozen and they're hard to get if you're not standing there right when they're being stocked. Here's hoping the price keeps going down, down, down.

Dude, you're in deep. Just curious what your primary news source is?
You are using the term "virtue signaling" wrong. Let me help you understand it. If I were to say "we have to stop building baseball fields because a baseball hit a sparrow and the sparrows are in danger" that is virtue signaling that I care so much about the sparrows that I will attempt to stop something that I say will hurt them. In reality, I don't give a fuck about sparrows, I just don't like baseball because I'm a football fan.
Masks and social distancing reduce the spread of airborne illness. Its a fact. Washing hands helps too. You will never disprove that. You might find a crazy person with credentials to say it does not but I'm sorry to say it but they are ignorant. Without a doubt there will be someone out there who will misinterpret some data to say masks don't help but I hate to say they are either trying to stir the pot to sow division, are just doing it to watch the world burn, or are also completely ignorant.
Everything we did saved lives. We can't quantify how many exactly but we have some data that supports it. Research suggests that counties with higher Republican voter share experienced higher excess mortality rates compared to Democratic-leaning counties, especially after vaccines became widely available.
Knowing all this suggests to me that while you say you care you really don't give a fuck and all the anti mask/vax bullshit killed more of your own party members than you want to admit. So how about you learn what words mean, stop listening to bullshit, and shove your virtue signaling up your ass. I'm not your enemy bro. The people spreading misinformation meant to divide us are.
Back, do you now accept Donald Trump as your president and acknowledge his accomplishments? Can we call this thread dead?
I did not vote for him but he did win the election so in that sense he is all of our president. I've never said otherwise.
If egg prices go down and it is a direct result of his administration's actions then good on them.
I've stated in other posts that I want to be wrong about everything I accuse or criticize this administration about.

That's like saying "I want the sky to be blue on a clear day" or "When I drop this apple, I want it to fall"
You being wrong about everything is the most constant thing on these forums.
It's like gravity.. it's an absolute.

The pandemic is over. Believe what you want. Tell yourself that public mask mandates, the shutdown of schools and businesses, the social distancing, and all the rest saved lives & was worth the harm that it caused. Ignore the science that we have a generation with an educational gap, that people couldn’t see their elderly loved ones who died alone during that time, that many small successful businesses permanently closed their doors, that we mandated health decisions on people under threat of losing their jobs, that mental health diagnosis skyrocketed because human beings were not meant to be isolated in that way. Your overlords didn’t play by the same rules.
All I can really say is you have no balls.

The best thing that happened during the "pandemic" was that the Democrats were able to "win" the 2020 election. Looking back, that will be the turning point of this country.
Trump wouldn't have done anything different than he did in his first term.. which was good, but nothing like what he's doing now.
He's literally transforming our government and rooting out corruption, waste and fraud.

That’s true on Trump.
Biden did a ton of damage to our country though. Corruption, waste, fraud, global instability, unchecked illegal immigration, and rampant inflation will be the legacy of the Biden administration. I’m not sure if we would have been better off with Trump winning in 2020 vs how history has played out. What’s done is done, and I agree this wiser & more politically savvy version of Trump in his 2nd term is going to change America for the better.

Understand that while I don’t wish upon you physical harm or ill will, we are not equal & you are not my bro. You have made it clear you are a lowlife communist leech upon our society, and that is not compatible with my value system. By virtue of being born American you are entitled to your opinion and constitutional protections afforded to every citizen, but we will never be united. Got it, bruh?

Trump "losing" in 2020 turned out to be the best possible thing for him.
Imagine having Pence as VP for a 2nd term, for example.

We get it Back. The pandemic was a fun time for you. As a commie, you love being told what to do and submitting to authority. You need someone to tell you how to think, how to act, and what to do. The pandemic also gave validation to your meaningless solitary existence. No longer did you have to worry about trying to fit in or adopt to social norms. You got to do what you are most comfortable doing, sheltering in place & avoiding human contact.
For most people though, the pandemic was a miserable experience that taught us to never again allow those so called “experts” to have ultimate power over our daily lives. Fuck your “better safe than sorry” attitude. I choose dangerous freedom over safe tyranny.

Its too bad you don't get paid by this administration because you consistently repeat everything they say non-stop 24/7. Its too bad they aren't actually keeping you in mind while they raid our retirements for their own bank accounts. They've got you so wrapped around their finger you can't even distinguish who the real problem is. (Psst. Brother, its the ultra wealthy.)
PS. Biden kept the ship right through the storm. We owe the man a debt of gratitude. If Trump had tried what he is doing now back then? Considering how close to the collapse of America we are right now he could have made it crash in less than 2 weeks.

Rejecting a better safe than sorry approach to public health can only lead to much sorrow. I will say that rejecting a better safe than sorry attitude on a personal level can be exciting until its not.

Oddly enough its you who has that problem. Democrats tell their leaders what to do. Republican leaders tell their constituents what to do.
So when you hear a democratic leader say something its because they are stating the will of their constituents. When a republican says something its to tell their constituents what to believe.
I will say the republican feedback loop of leaders scaring constituents into voting them into power is really really tight right now.

There are crazy people on the internet. You should stop posting before some lunatic finds you in a Starbucks and slaps the soy latte out of your hand.
Like that one dude who said he was gonna torch some other GS player's house irl, for example.
You should exit the internet entirely, just to be extra safe.
It's better to be safe than sorry. Right?
Maybe ClydeR's mommy will let you move in and then you and ClydeR can hide under his adult sized crib from Covid together, 6 feet apart of course, while wearing 3 masks over your face and 17 over your asshole.
How many boosters have you gotten anyway?

No, I'm just agreeing with your "better safe than sorry" viewpoint. Stop being a drama queen.
You have no ability to upset me because you're completely irrelevant outside of your incredible stupidity serving as entertainment.
But anyway back on topic, you should probably stop crossing the street too. You could get run over by a bus. Better safe than sorry.
Stop eating solid foods too. You could choke. Stick to a liquid diet. Better safe than sorry.
