2024 is shaping up to be just like 2016, with a packed field.

Here's the candidates that have already filed and declared.. plus a few more that will get into the race.

Declared:

Donald Trump
Ron DeSantis
Tim Scott
Nikki Haley
Asa Hutchinson
Vivek Ramaswamy
Ryan Binkley
Larry Elder
Perry Johnson

To be fair, I didn't even know those last 3 were running or who they were.

List of potential candidates. I think I heard that Christie and Pence have filed the paperwork already.

Mike Pence
Chris Christie
Chris Sununu
Mike Rogers
Glenn Youngkin
Liz Cheney
Doug Burgum
John Bolton

This group has next to no chance at all of making a run imo... but I said the same thing about Trump in 2015.. so who knows.

I hope Liz Cheney runs.. so Republicans can show her how little they like her and maybe she will just go away to some cushy job her daddy gets her.

I have read a bit about Mike Pence's intention to run. Most things I have read suggest he is only running in an attempt to block Trump, not that it would be all that terrible a thing if Trump was not the nominee. My concern there is he will run as a third party candidate and burn the whole thing to the ground. I do think a Biden Manchin DeSantis Trump election would be worth of a LOT of popcorn.

I dislike Pence.. only because I'm not in the religious right. And he is only helping Trump by adding another name into the primary process, diluting every other candidate except Trump.

You think Biden will drop Harris and pick up Manchin? I doubt it. Manchin is a moderate, but the base hates him. And what are they going to say about Harris? "She was so bad, we had to replace her"?

Biden will have to get rid of Harris to even have a chance.. but the replacement has to be a superstar.. like Michael Obama.. I mean Michelle Obama.. or even Barack Obama (can he even be the VP? I think so..) or Oprah or Dwayne Johnson.. someone with superstar name recognition.

For real, does any give any care at all who the VP is?

I think in Biden's case.. yea. He needs someone better than Harris. His poll numbers are terrible, but hers are even worse. She's a drag on the ticket... not to mention she's one slip and fall from becoming the President. Yikes.

This is a sincere question as I don’t really trust polls to be accurate… Do you know anyone personally that voted for Biden in the last election that would actually change their vote to Trump in this upcoming one? I ask that because I do not know anyone like that. I know Democrats that bitch about Biden but they would still vote for him.

If it’s Trump vs Biden I think it will be another close election where the result comes down to voter turnout. People already have their minds made up about Trump one way or the other.

The number I wonder about is how many Democrats will go into the booth and simply pull a lever for president. It would not take a whole of them to make a difference.

I seriously hope Trump does not get the nomination because if he does it will just be 4 years of him trying to get back at anyone that he thinks slighted him and we need more than that.

There will be a few things that help the Republicans in this election cycle.. Biden's poor performance and overall perception of his administration and covid election measures have ended.

The abortion issue is going to kill Republicans. It's already killed them at a state level.

Whether you're personally for it or against it, it's an unpopular ban and simply is a losing issue.

In reality, we need exactly that because that is how democrats have done for the past 2 administrations. We need to get in and quickly, brutally and directly prosecute those who have committed crimes, gut the agencies that have been politically corrupted and use a majority to hammer home Conservative policies as quickly as possible instead of the tender footed, mealy mouthed weak sauce we have had before. We need a good old fashioned Contract with America again.

First 100 days:

End FISA and Patriot Act.
Gut agencies of people that have committed crimes or weaponized agencies for political ends, prosecute such immediately.
Pass Hearing Protection act.
Reform or end NFA, end state ban and attempted bans of firearms, ammunition, magazines and accessories and enact national concealed carry reciprocity. Firearm bans and licensing schemes are racist and civil rights violations.
Fully fund border wall construction with a time table to be done in one administration including advanced sensors and all the bells and whistles.
Immigration reform including ending the Dreamer's nonsense, end idiot asylum crap, end birthright citizenship, change immigration to merit based and not family based, end anchor babies.
Fast track nationalization for all illegals here with a 90 to 180 day registration then unequivocal and immediate deportation afterwards of everyone not registered. No cheaper fees, no auto citizenship, you register, you get on a fast track plan, you naturalize or you get out immediately. Conviction of a felony or violent misdemeanor means immediate deportation or serve your sentence and then immediate deportation.
Implement a work visa program with photo and biometric identification, criminal background check and immediate loss of visa if you are convicted of a felony or violent misdemeanor.
Gut the CIA and NSA spying on the American People.
Full transparency of the actions of the FBI regarding election interference and prosecute those responsible.
End security clearances immediately for all those that signed off on the Hunter Laptop letter.
Immediate Section 230 review for all companies who suppressed the Biden Laptop, covid restrictions and everyone promoting the insurrection BS.
Immediately and aggressively recover all unused covid funding, audit all covid funding as well as prosecute all misuse of covid funding quickly.
End all Chinese police stations in the US and immediately prosecute deport all involved.
End most Foreign Aid, especially funding the Palestinian State. Stop paying terrorists.
End the war on US energy with a policy of technical innovation and energy independence.
End participation in and ban the re-entry into the Paris accords and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
End WHO, WTO participation.
Assert an America first policy and ban any and all treaties that subordinate US law to foreign law in any way. Sovereign countries are sovereign and we should behave like it.
Kick the UN out of the US since they serve as a multinational spy agency and criminal cover story.
Negotiate and end to our shadow war in the Ukraine.
Require NATO countries to meet their treaty obligations in 2 years or less.
Refocus US education on fundamentals and end funding for cultural Marxism. China and India have more honor students than we have students. Implement grants for technical and STEM education regardless of race, sex, national origin or financial ability.
Require civics education in all grades.
Reform Student lending with a focus on withdrawing from the education market, end private, predatory education lending and provide a low cost method to reform student loans.
Re-implement Glass-Steagall.
Audit the Federal Reserve and make the results public if not end the Fed alltogether.
End title IX and affirmative action. The government has no place promoting racism and sexism in any function.
Codify the end of the administrative super state, stop letting government agencies make up laws through the use of rules and administrative methods to let un-elected bureaucrats run the show.
Make it a criminal act for NGOs to assist or encourage violating federal law.
Make NGO involvement in violating election law a stiff felony and applicable to all who participated AND funded such, not just the so called "leaders".
Implement nation wide, uniform secure photo ID requirements and chain of custody requirements with criminal penalties for federal elections.
Make it a priority for our federal law enforcement to prosecute and work to end sex trafficking and fund it well.
Fund more focus on domestic intelligence to prevent industrial espionage.
Make a national task force to consolidate, reform and simplify the federal code so that it is clear, concise and not contradictory.
Streamline and simplify the tax code for individuals and families. A flat tax would be better but likely impossible to pass.
Ban federal unions.
Streamline permitting and processes for infrastructure replacement, make infrastructure about fixing roads, bridges, water and power systems and not about union subsidies and graft payoffs.
Fund national broadband upgrades with a grant process instead of a bid process. Install and deploy X to X new people in un/under served area, win Y grant money to offset the process.
Reduce/remove barriers to entry into the telecom market, health care market and so on. End so called "Certificate of Need" BS in all industries.
End federal minimum wage.
End three strikes law and commute federal convicts who have served 10+ years of a sentence without incident due to prosecution under the 3 strikes law and have served out all other related sentances.
Strengthen federal criminal prosecution of fentanyl crimes.
Legalize weed or don't but if not, then move it to schedule 2 or 3 drug list and enforce federal laws against states that do not comply. Legalization would include stiff penalties for driving under the influence and commission of other crimes under the influence. Could still be a limiting factor on a form 4473.
Re-implement food packaging labeling of place of origin and place of processing.
Incentivize American food independence and export. Stop paying people not to grow, end ag subsidies to fallow ground past 5 years.
Implement right to repair on all technical equipment, machinery and devices.
Incentivize through import tariff and construction grant the manufacture of critical medications, strategically important metals and technology such as microchips domestically.
Refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve with domestic oil and limit how it can be used so we don't have another case of Biden election tampering.
Reform the Department of Energy to incentivize new nuclear power innovation and reactor construction and complete the national waste facility. Technology exists to use current waste for power, we need to develop and implement it immediately.
Buy back US uranium stocks and mining immediately.
Build infrastructure to facilitate exporting American natural gas to Europe and elsewhere to enable our allies to have affordable and reliable energy without dealing with the unstable middle east and Russian states.
Incentivize modernization of energy infrastructure, refining, power grid and water supplies nationwide.
Require California to implement desalinization and end the theft of water from the west to provide for a few California counties. End the western water heist based on a century old scam.
Break up the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals into at least 2, if not 3 entities and add a new Circuit court(s) to better handle the work load.
Outlaw federal funding for abortion in all forms in any location.
End federal support of transgender surgeries in federal prison and the military. It is not an effective treatment for a mental illness.
Require segregation of federal inmate populations based on genetic gender and not gender identity. Further segregate the population based on gender identity. No more identifying as whatever to get into a prison population that facilitates your mental illness and sexual fetish.
End the military woke experiment. The military has 2 jobs, to kill people and break things, it's not a tool for social engineering.
Reform the military and government purchasing process. Instead of sealed bidding, go with simple grant reward. Provide X item that meets Y specification, win Z grant money. For example, we need a modern class of frigates, put out design specs, then award a grant to the company that makes a design, builds a ship and proves that the design meets the specs AFTER it passes the test. You can include a requirement to prove you can meet a production goal of Z items over some period of time at a fixed cost per delivered item too. Then the US owns the designs and can award contracts to anyone as long as they follow those designs exactly AND payment for items is only done ON DELIVERY of complete, functional and tested items. No more of this paying for shit for decades before you get a semi-functional item at an inflated cost. I'm looking at you F35, Zumwalt, M2/M3 Bradley, Marine ACV and so on.
Federal work requirement for all able bodied welfare recipients.
Reform the VA with a focus on PTSD care and return to civilian life treatment.
Release the Epstein client list and the full info on his death, prosecute responsible parties for negligence at the least.
Prosecute Ashli Babbitt's murderer.
Release the political prisoners held without bond and who's 6th amendment rights have been violated in regards to Jan 6th. Prosecute those responsible for this travesty of justice.

That should cause a lot of heads to explode. In before the Leftist chorus cries about how unconstitutional some things are while defending holding Jan 6th prisoners, illegal spying and protecting Hunter Biden, Epstein and Clinton. Fuck off children, it's time for adults to take the wheel.

I would be ok with pretty much all of that but if we could get even a one third of it done, that would still be a huge win, and I could be happy Trump was re-elected if he got it done, but based upon his words and actions, I do not think that is what he wants to accomplish. The time for petty bullshit is over, we need to govern. I know a lot of people are hating on McCarthy for making a deal, but he controls only 1 of 3 parts to get it done, and yes, he could have just burned it all down and driven the world into a recession/depression, but instead he governed, just like an elected official is supposed to do. Compromise is a way of life in the government.

The way I see it, Democrats will always have some questionable election practices that give them an advantage. Republicans won’t win if it is razor thin close in some counties. Republican voters need to overcome a certain margin through voter turnout to win elections. Also…pray for rain.

I am not going to say I disagree, but I would hope that the candidates, leave it a state's rights issue. A nationwide abortion ban will never get through congress, so they should pick better battles, especially ones that are as much of a lightning rod as that one is.

If Trump told leftists to get as many abortions as possible, they would instantly change their stance and be completely against abortion and demanding an immediate federal ban.

Trump would have gotten everything done that he wanted to do if he just pretended he was against it while he was in office. Which is why he should have said he was in favor of open borders and unlimited illegal immigration with 0 checks. The wall would be 3x as tall and finished in under 6 months.

I don't know how many US citizens are eligible for president, but I'd imagine it's in the 100ish million or so range. And yet, look at the candidates from each party right now. So very pathetic.

Having just written that though, it's hard for me to visualize what a perfect or even good candidate would be, without saying things like honest, straightforward, unifier, realist, moderate, constitutionalist, firm but fair... and none of those things can be proven or exist in politics very much at all. I have a very fatalistic viewpoint of our current political environment, but I still think it's better than everywhere else.

I'm just happy to live in a moderate (both left and right) city. Leave all the crazy in major urban areas, thank you very much.

I honestly had no idea who Tim Scott was until he showed up on the View and made headlines recently, but I liked what he had to say.

I’ve lived in a major urban city (Dallas) my entire life, but my retirement plan is to sell all my assets & live on some acreage off the grid. In my dreams, I’m riding a horse patrolling my fence line. One day it will be real.

Dallas has it's pros and cons. I did love the nightlife down there, Deep Ellum and various other competing party districts in surrounding towns. The job market is nice there, you can keep on jumping to the next job every six months for an increase if you have a marketable skill. But damn, that place sure is flat and boring nature-wise.

Most candidates for both parties have basically the same platform... it's on the delivery.

Tim Scott is a level headed person who is well liked and has a positive message. He is probably too nice to be President, but that is what they said about him becoming Senator.

Keep talking like that and Seran is going to stop being your friend.
