Trump's strategy is sound. If he is ahead substantially at the time of the debates, then he should not debate. He would stand to lose but not gain from the debates. To justify skipping the debates, he will need pretext. Hoever, if the polls are close at the time of the debates, he should participate.

The Democrats have already announced that there will be no primary debates, even though 2 other opponents to Biden have announced they are running.

The DNC continues to stack the deck in favor of their chosen candidate.
