They will just settle it out of court for an undisclosed amount.

Fox News knew from the get go it's exploitation of Trump's spurious claims and it's anchors spreading those lies would get it in trouble. I'm just glad they'll have to pay out three quarters of a billion for it. Their statement was the best part, their journalistic integrity is nonexistent, their payout is confirmation of that. $787 million will make them think twice about spreading lies.
Fox, Dominion reach settlement over false election claims
Fox and Dominion Voting Systems reached a settlement Tuesday in the voting machine company’s defamation lawsuit, averting a trial in a case that exposed how the top-rated network chased viewers by promoting lies about the 2020 presidential election.
The terms of the settlement were not immediately clear.
Dominion had asked for $1.6 billion in arguing that Fox had damaged its reputation by helping peddle conspiracy theories about its equipment. Fox said the amount greatly overstated the value of the Colorado-based company.
The settlement was announced by the judge in the case, who allowed the case to go to trial while emphasizing that it was “CRYSTAL clear” that none of the allegations about Dominion aired on Fox by allies of former President Donald Trump were true.
A statement from Fox said the settlement reflected the network’s “continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”

lol
There is less of a case here than when all of the major networks maliciously slandered teenager Nick Sandmann, and all of those lawsuits were either settled out of court or were dismissed by biased judges, so this case is a 100% nothing burger.
But with the way the Democrats have weaponized the courts, even civil courts lately, yeah I can see Fox News being in trouble.
And Republican politicians will do nothing about the Democrats' continued assault on our democratic institutions, because they are largely cowards.

Damn, I was hoping it would go to trial.
They could have held out and taken it to a conclusion, we could have all laughed our asses off while Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Jeanine Pierro all tried to walk back the evidence of their trashing the subject matter they were paid to promote, but honestly it'd get boring after a while. That News organization has no credibility and so kicking them after they'd kneecapped themselves so many times would be cruel.

Besides, we'll all be entertained when the jury in Trump's trial begins to report the harassment and intimidation from Trump's team.

Nothing burger cost almost 800 million dollars.. that’s an expensive nothing burger.
Also the discovery was great fun to watch. How did it feel to watching your hero’s rebuke everything they say on air in text messages amongst themselves?
Fucking right wing traitor scum bags around here can’t see past their own hubris and just admit.. yeah that was fucked up guys.. instead they brigade and come in to the thread to call everyone who doesn’t agree with them retards and shower us with what aboutisms and negative rep like it’s something people care about in the politics forum.

You must have me confused with Seran who apparently watches Fox News more than everyone else on the PC combined, since I don't even watch Fox News at all.
Also if Dominion thought they had such a good case and wanted to do the righteous thing, then why did they accept a settlement at all instead of seeing this all the way through and make a lot more money?

There's quite a bit of copium being huffed right now trying to spin that 800m payout to Dominion as an example of the benevolence of Fox News. As if they didn't spend the better part of a year trying to deny any wrongdoing or financial culpability.

800 million is nothing. They probably found that in the lounge couch.

Their net profit was 1.2 billion and they've reported cash on hand of 4 billion. So.. however you want to spin that, $800 million is a significant chunk of their profit or cash on hand. Your attempting to downplay the significance of such a financial obligation is amusing.

Yea, if they only made 1.2 billion then it is significant for the year.
But in the grand scope of things, it's not much.
Hopefully, they learned a valuable lesson.

Fox is probably going to write most of the settlement off their taxes.
I know you far left idiots thought this was going to be the end of Fox News or something, but this really is nothing.
Your hero, the corrupt Dominion, folded like a cheap suit as soon as they saw a settlement on the horizon. They could have actually done some damage to Fox if they went ahead with their lawsuit and won and let the Democrat judge slap Fox News with a 1 trillion dollar judgement, that coupled with being found guilty in court might have done some actual damage. But not even Dominion was confident enough in their lies to convince a jury.
But Fox News will walk away owning basically nothing compared to what their company brings in, and they probably won't have to admit wrong doing or give some sort of apology or anything. This will all blow over in less than a week and Fox News will hardly even notice a difference a year from now.

Why yes, settlement payments are considered an ordinary business expense, though again that is a massive loss to their net profit for the year. Keep smoking that copium though. As PB acknowledged, hopefully they learned a valuable lesson. Much as CNN, Washington Post and NBC learned from their own defamation suit settlements.
Again, I love that in your world a three quarters of a billion dollar settlement due to spreading Trump's lies is a win.

They still have another 2.7bln lawsuit coming up for the same exact shit, and from the reports, this company is not going to settle so easily.
I think what’s very significant is dominion is only worth like 50-80m or so.

Oh yeah, I forgot about insurance. Fox News probably has insurance against "slander" lawsuits, so between insurance and tax deductions they are probably going to end up paying very little compared to what their annual revenue is.
I don't know how you losers keep on losing yet you think you're winning, but keep it up. I love the entertainment.

You really think there is an insurance that protects you when you slander or lie? Seriously?
Fox lost, and no matter how you want to spin it, doesn’t change the fact they had to settle, and lost 787mln dollars.

General liability insurance Any business
This coverage protects against financial loss as the result of bodily injury, property damage, medical expenses, libel, slander, defending lawsuits, and settlement bonds or judgments.
https://www.insureon.com/insurance-glossary/slander
If someone sues your business for libel or slander, the defamation insurance included in this insurance policy would help pay your legal defense costs, including a settlement or judgment.
Cry more. You can insure for just about anything these days.
Between tax write offs and insurance Fox will probably end up paying maybe half of this settlement, if that much.

There is insurance for anything. I would imagine a news channel would have libel and slander in their liability insurance.

787 million is quite a lot of money.. to everyday folks.

Fox News most certainly has general liability insurance, though it's a stretch to assume it'll claim the settlement against it, considering the willful acts exception. The testimony of Fox's hosts and executives moving forward with libelous statements despite knowing they're false falls right into a willful acts of intentional harm exception.
We'll know soon either way, Fox News is required to disclose the settlement and financial impact via an SEC filing.

It's a good thing that journalist/news agencies are held accountable when they lie. Frankly I'd hope more news agencies are sued for blatant lies like this and the other obvious lies, if only to get them in line and have SOME accountability. Other narratives that need to be sued would be all the January 6th lies from all the news agencies (like Fox just paid out). Lying to the American people under the guise of news but when it's really opinion needs to be punished. "Mostly peaceful" rioting, sue them. "Insurrection", sue them. Changing definitions of recession, sue them. Lies about disasters like in East Palestine, sue them. Hero of Kenosha, sue them. Sandman, sue them. Adam Schiff and Swalwell lies about collusion with Russia, sue them. Russia Dossier, sue them (imagine how many congress people would go bankrupt!). Sue them all.
Let's all just get litigious until these agencies start telling the truth.
I'm kidding mostly though. I'd rather we just put them out of business or vote them out of congress. But because the America public are team sports voters, it'll never happen. The left and the right love to be divided instead of coming together in compromise, so it'll never go away. Everyone will write books and get rich though.
