View Full Version : What Should Biden Do About Germany?

Germany is messing up the Western response to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Germans seem blind to the fact that they are not helping matters. Biden needs to have a forceful private conversation with Scholz. I don't recommend that Biden visit Germany because. Instead, Scholz should report to the Oval Office.

As global powers have scrambled to prevent all-out war between Ukraine and Russia, Germany has been accused not only of failing to take a leadership role in diplomatic efforts, but also of actively failing to help defend Ukraine from a possible attack.

The U.S. and U.K. are among the countries that have send military hardware to Ukraine to help it defend itself in the case of an invasion. Russia denies it is planning such a move, despite mobilizing many tens of thousands of troops in the area.

Germany has refused to send help, however, and has reportedly blocked others from doing so. That has lead to accusations that it has not shown Ukraine — which is not a member of the EU or NATO but is geographically within Europe — enough solidarity.

Scholz has faced growing criticism over his perceived reluctance to weigh in so far and is under pressure to take a more robust position against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Instead of sending weapons to Kyiv, Berlin has instead offered to provide 5,000 protective helmets and a field hospital. This was met with disbelief and derision in some quarters of Ukraine.

I live in Germany. I can tell you right now Scholz and his party are off to a rough start. His approval numbers are crashing.

The way I see it, he is living in the shadow of his predecessor and has yet to step out from under it. Angela Merkel was very popular, and one of the most effective leaders not only of Germany but of the entire EU in the past 10 years. Many disagree with some of her policies, but I think that is the case with all leaders.

I thought Scholz was actually visiting the whitehouse this week. Did that not happen?

We should put Trump back in office who did his best to fuck up Russia's economy and tried to convince Germany to buy more US oil and gas.

Instead we have Biden who seems to be doing his best to help Russia's economy while also convincing Germany to buy more Russian oil and gas.

But somehow Trump was the Russian puppet.

Oh, I must have missed it. But you're right, of course. He did visit the White House.

So you live in Germany? There's something I've been wanting to ask someone from Germany. It's sort of a delicate subject, but I think everybody here is up to it.

What is the deal with your toilets? I didn't want President Biden to go to Germany because I did not want him to have to be exposed to that. I nearly descended into a rant about it in my first post in this thread. Fortunately, I thought better of it.
