View Full Version : America - Isolationists or Interventions

Coming up on a quarter of the way into the 21st century and the United States has seen it's role as superpower caretaker of the world begin to seriously erode. Whether by the gradual improvement of the standard of living worldwide or by the deliberate policies of the Federal Government, countries around the world look less to the United States as a intervening protector and more a blank check to cover up their own mismanagement.
Case in point, the coronavirus is eating countries like India, Brazil and Venezuela alive. Certain NGOs and far left members of Congress are demanding intervention in the form of cash and resources. But why should we care? Certainly it is not only the overpopulation of large parts of the world which contribute heavily to their misery, but the ineptitude of their weak or corrupt governments which allows famine, disease and violence to reign unchecked. Our country has no say in solving the underlying issues, the cause, so why would we contribute more than a token response to the resolving the effect?
Good will seems to be the answer of some, or paying off our collective shame for once being a colonial power. But if that is the case, when does it end? Trillions spent in Iraq and Afghanistan and nothing was resolved. Tens of billions in Syria, Somalia, Vietnam and the situation didn't improve.
So what is the point of continuing to do so in the longterm. Influence? Nah. Thwarting our enemies? Better reason, but pointless. Resources? Well now here is a legitimate reason for providing aid, remuneration in the form of goods and materials we need to continue our domestic growth. Some might call this exploitation, but what is trade but not the exchange of goods, monies and services between to entities. Should our dominant position call for humility and boundless generosity. No.
Perhaps the rest of this century should be spent focusing on our own backyards. Reducing crime, improving infrastructure, improving sciences and technology to make us more efficient and competitive. Solving longterm poverty with opportunities and jobs, rather than welfare and handouts. That is our path forward.

Are you just now realizing all of this? Better late than never.

Careful - it almost sounds like you're saying "America First".
You one of those bigoted "Orange Man" supporters? You damn Nazi.
***SARCASM ALARM***
Edit: This made me have a thought right after - What would a remake of Red Dawn, Best of the Best, or Rocky IV look like today. Hmmm.

The biggest concern is bankrupting our nation with pointless wars and even more pointless attempts at 'saving' the people who are living under corrupt regimes. Our country doesn't get anything out of it, and I'm sorry but good feels isn't a good enough reason anymore.

Lefties can be Isolationists too, we're just slower on the uptake.

2 TRILLION dollar "Covid Relief" bill (which 10% was for actual covid relief)
2.2 TRILLION dollar "Infrastructure" bill (which 5%-7% was for actual infrastructure)
1.8 TRILLION dollar "American Family" bill
This is what YOU voted for.. and we're 100 days in....

It's true and I stand by all three. But that also has nothing to do with my post.
Thread: America - Isolationists or Interventions -
If you actually believed this, you wouldn't be a Democrat
Rhetoric like that is how we get into such partisan situations. I didn't know being a registered member of the party meant I couldn't have some contrary views.

Repost this thread on some lefty forum and watch how quickly you get dragged by your own party.

When your closing argument is: "Solving longterm poverty with opportunities and jobs, rather than welfare and handouts. That is our path forward." is contrary to everything that today's Democrat Party is doing.

I mean...you can have contrary views, but it seems like the only real "policies" you agree with Democrats on is identity politics. Aren't you also against defunding the police and believe police should keep their qualified immunity?
What major policies do you even agree with mainstream Democrats anymore? Abortion?

Everyone seems to forget 2019 - before the Rona...
https://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2020/article/job-market-remains-tight-in-2019-as-the-unemployment-rate-falls-to-its-lowest-level-since-1969.htm
That's from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
We were headed in the right direction. Could adjustments have been made to target specific areas to further improve it, definitely. Specifically labor participation %'s.
Will the right fiscal policy now be implemented to get us back in the direction we were going? Not now.

You can't spend 6 TRILLION dollars and raise taxes on companies.. and expect to grow the economy. I'm convinced that the ulterior motive for Democrats is to slow our economy down. There's no other explanation for what they are proposing.

For some reason people think taxes are someone else's money. Taxes are OUR money. Let me rephrase the context:
"Biden proposes TAKING 6 trillion of the peoples money from them". It's not just Biden that does it, most politicians on both sides are jackasses... the Left is just on steroids with it.
What would help everyone - and I know this will seem extreme - is if you work (meaning invest your time and labor) and earn money.... get ready... here comes the controversy... you get to keep the majority of it!
I know, I know. That's blasphemy. Imagine if there was 6 trillion dollars in peoples hands who earned it, to... here's another controversial thought... get ready... spend and reinvest it in themselves, their family, and their communities.
I'm insane I know!!
But people seem to want to allow our "representatives" to TAKE over 50%+ of what they earn - which means in effect.... they are taking over 50% of your time, effort, and energy. Because, you know... fuck I don't even know.
